This is my favourite embroidery piece (with hand crocheted edging) that my mother did.

She's always been more interested in doing the crochet than the embroidery, so there are lots of doilies and things in the cupboard.

That's really really nice, so many different embroidery stitches, many of them traditional dating back to the Elizabethan Era.
Just want to add that this is a very good piece and worth framing. It's a good example of women's art and culture. Your mum had a good sense of history and culture. 🙂

- It would be the different stitches that attracted her to the design - she's always hated doing lots of satin stitch and preferred using different fill stitches.

- Embroidery is a nice hobby - it is very meditative. This sort of embroidery takes a fair bit of practice to get right because you have to judge the position of the needle and size of stitches evenly, but things like cross stitch are usually done on fabric with evenly spaced holes to guide you. It is not too complicated but gives you something to do with your hands, and it gives you just enough to do with your conscious brain that you don't get bored without taking up all your attention, so most of your brain has space to process things and do some quality sub-conscious thinking.

Now they beg to keep all their shit working and can't function without their devices. I'd love to see another carrington event.

Lol I see the same with my mother who was draconian about limiting use of the PC (also pre smartphones - but no consoles at home) and is now mindlessly addicted to puzzle games on her phone. so bad she would sometimes text me when in the same house rather than come talk to me

Tomorrow morning, I have a psychiatrist appointment for ADHD. Maybe after I get meds, I won't have "big feelings" anymore. But that might just be the suspected 'tism. Who knows at this point?

  I have been taking a sleeping pill since I started the adhd meds, but the other ones I could try have horrible side effects.

My kid did a very important biology test today. We all put in a bet and will be eagerly anticipating results.

My grandma made Geoffrey the dog steamed fish, rice, and pasta. He ate none of it. But I gave him 20 of these little treats yesterday, because that's all he'll eat.

When my dog was old and loosing appetite, I would boils some chicken thighs and then shred it up in the broth, he seemed to like it. Chicken soup basically.

I've been really enjoying green tea lately. I always loved it with yum cha but never had it on its own. Haven't had coffee in a week and I can't remember the last time I had a cappuccino. I think I've found my latest fad.

My latest fad is definitely phó. Having it for third breakfast this week now. Had it more times in the last two months than I think I have in the previous ten years combined

Good morning festive Friday freaks 🌻

Was quite tired yesterday, went to bed earlier than normal, woke up at about 4 for a tinkle, fell back asleep until 6...decided to fall back sleep again (day off today) and holy shit the next 90 minutes was the deepest sleep I've had in a loooong time.

Wife's alarm went off, she had a shower, had the curtains opened and I did not budge until she actually woke me up.

Feel absolutely refreshed too.

I rate the two sleeps
Second one goes way deeper imo.
- I always dream the most in my second sleep

- It's innocent and lewd at the same time

... I haven't even had any wine yet.

My Nana used to do "the fancy work" as she called it. Anyway I found this. She would've crocheted the edges and all. Oh the patience she had.

- I can tell this one was probably whipped up in weekend because I've seen a lot of her work. Probably just something to put in my mother's glory box.
  The most impressive was a huge full sized blue willow table cloth complete with 8 napkins all crocheted around the edges of course.
  Ps. I found more fancy work.
I've got some of these from my grandma and mother. What to do with them though? My modern life is too messy for such delicate items to be used in the house anywhere (don't ask me how I know).
- They're called supper cloths and you pack them away only to find them 20 years later, admire them, then pack them away for another 20 years.

Stand up paddle board acquired - just a cheap inflatable one that had good reviews. Nabbed one for the boyo as well. Sadly too windy to test 'em today, but I've always wanted it and now I have it.

I remembered to bring the growler to work and it's in the fridge pre-cooling before going to the brewery. I feel like I've earned it this week.

All quiet here today for the moment, there are some big wigs here today so I'm going to try my best to stay out o their way though one is camped in the staff room, that's going to be inconvenient for making coffee.

Hopefully not much to do today but at the same time there's only so much I can do to keep myself occupied.

Update address databases. That's a good makework/look busy go to. Has stood me in good stead over many many years. It always looks impressive if you start at the END of the alphabet - to casual inspection it looks like you've made a lot of progress. The tail end of the alphabet is usually the last one to be done so usually needs quite a lot of love too.
- Good call, actually forgot to do some maintenance on the database at some point.

And in today’s episode of stupid things I’ve done today…

I went to wash the dishes after dinner, ran the water and poured the dishwashing detergent as usual.

Yep, what a dumb thing I did once again.

I've lost count of the number of times I've made a pot of tea, and forgot to put the tea in.
- Haven’t done that yet but have done making a coffee and only put the sugar in and forgot the coffee and filled it up with water.

Well that's a bummer. Wiring is fried in a very weird way so no bueno getting dishwasher repaired 😞 have to wait for them to send the report to the manufacturer who will only then inform me if I get a replacement or refund. Which will be Tuesday at the earliest. At least I was lucky enough to get the tech in today... Looks like handwashing is on the cards for this weekend 😭

If I was handy with electronics at all I'd hope for a refund and then try to fix the electronics myself, but I barely have enough brain power to struggle through the days so I'll just wait.

Plus side is today is Severance and The Pitt release day 🥳 And I have got my antibiotics after the dr was late by half an hour, and my laundry is all done. I might get some soup from the shops because I cbf cooking today. though kimchi fried rice is definitely on the cards for the weekend.

Sometimes it's nice to be "officially" sick because that lets me finally relax my nervous system. That's kinda sad too but anyway

I agree with Taleya, should be up to the retailer with an instant refund or return no questions asked in this case.
I hope that you didn't have to pay for someone to come out to look at the dishwasher.
- Luckily no I didn't pay. Though they certainly tried to list all kinds of conditions under which I would have to pay, I'm pretty sure this was a straight up defect.
  I went directly to the manufacturer not via the retailer as it would've taken extra time and steps, and I figured I'd get a similar outcome anyway. I did call the retailer and they said they would've done the same thing as me (contact the manufacturer) except there would've been that extra layer of forms and waiting.
Give 'em some pushback. If it's a wiring fault, then your relationship is with the retailer, they sold you something that was defective. They can take it up with the manufacturer themselves and leave you out of it.
- I'll wait to see what they say after they get the report from the repair tech. You bet if they refuse a refund/replacement, or the replacement takes an ass amount of time, I'll be kicking up a fuss. Kind of hoping for a refund so I can just buy something else off Appliances Online asap and have them take away this unit

Watching the latest episode of Severance right now and...

The people who reviewed all ten episodes said that this and episode 4 were standouts of the season. Frankly this one is infinitely more impactful, this is like the intensity of the episode 3 ending except for like, the whole episode. I do think the whole show has just been turned around completely on its head... not so much the premise (that was beautifully and cruelly reinforced this episode which was great as I felt it was losing its way on that front), but certainly the machinations of exactly what the fuck is going on... Imma need to process this one

Been watching Lattouf V ABC and surprised today how on the back foot the ABC is with their closing arguments. Lots of awkward, grasping answers given by their defence team to questions posed by the judge.

There's a concurrent scandal at the BBC , they used officials and family of officials in interviews while pretending they were everyday people and also faked translations to make the interviewee more acceptable and to lie about events and motivations for actions.
I'm generally a big ABC fan, but I'm appalled both that this happened, and that they've spent so much public money trying to defend something that's clearly indefensible.

I think it's about time I bought myself a stand up paddle board.

Finished the two hardcore antibiotics and the tooth still hurts, but I’m told that they don’t want to give me more and even the closer appt found is 2 weeks away. Great. I just hope it isn’t an infection and/or doesn’t spread.

Generally they're quick on accepting patients , just make it out it be an emergency.
