We've had a break in at our office overnight! So far nothing appears stolen, but the office is crawling with cops blowing fingerprint dust everywhere.
Work break-ins are always a fun break-up of the usual routine. One happened at my old job and even though there's all this expensive musical equipment, the guy just tried to make off with some laptops and cheap guitars.
It looked like the guy was homeless though. So he was more just trying to get whatever he thought would sell, which is quite sad overall
For those who care, Canada beat the USA in the 4 Nations hockey tournament, in overtime.
A great day for Canada, therefore the entire the Commonwealth and largely the world.
🫡🇨🇦
I sorta do and don't. I didn't know the event was on and this news doesn't change my day in any way.
But if I were asked who I'd prefer to win in a(ny) sporting contest between Canada and USA, I'm picking Canada!
It was kind of like an all-star tournament with USA, Canada, Finland and Sweden sending their best. It's been a long time since professional hockey players competed in the Olympics, so this was a bit of a trial run before the next winter games.
Mate i dont much care who beats them I'm happy to watch america get their asses kicked all the live long day. Always an added bonus if its the "snow aussies" (I recently heard them called that) take a win as well.
The game was closer than I'd liked, and to be fair, the US team is absolutely stacked. Next Olympics are going to be fun as heck.
Yay Canada! 🇨🇦
Lunch break. I have achieved gozleme and am pleased
As usual I’ve had coffee for lunch
I'm half an hour late for mine and still have no idea what I actually want to eat...
EDIT: Can of tuna and some bikkies. Delicious.
Cheers 🍺
*This post is dedicated to all the adorable cats of Melbourne and beyond 🐾

Won’t post because messy background but I have a picture of Melbcat twining her tail around my mug like she was going to pick it up
I caught my previous cat doing this from a glass of water once, and had the sad realisation that I’d been sharing my drinks with her for quite some time
😂
-wake up
Oh. It's gonna be one of those days.
One of the great things about getting into work early is there's no one there to notice you got in 5 minutes late
If you're in early how are you 5 minutes late?
Or do you have an early start that you happened to be 5 minutes later for?
Please clarify, brain not braining yet.
That was an alright sort of day. Feel like I've been operating on autopilot... anyway it's good to be home to a pre-cooled lounge room, time to heat up a hearty dinner and enjoy this week's tv! My favourite thing about Fridays atm 🥳
What's everyone's plans for the weekend? I've got to list these dang little items on fbm before my rental inspection in two weeks, and probably do more bulk cooking. Nothing much else otherwise. Try and finish Juice, I guess
Shopping tomorrow early as possible at Southland for groceries and a click and collect.
Staying cool and catching up Severance if I don’t get to it tonight.
I think cricket match might be on tomorrow so I’ll try and catch that too.
At the moment I have no idea what groceries I want to get so that’s a bit of a bother.
Saturday recovery. Sunday prepare for the week. Washing that loves the outdoors.
Another Saturday chill day person? People often assume I prefer to have active Saturdays and chill Sundays like many others, maybe a hangover from when Sundays were for rest and church and all that but I desperately need my sleep-in and recovery day on Saturday, not Sunday.
I’ve got an unusually busy weekend lined up, seeing some friends and also visiting the kusama exhibition and maybe someone’s birthday drinks. Along all the usual chores - lucky it will be good weather for drying laundry
Oh nice! A good social weekend can be really rewarding. I have a really quiet weekend and been feeling anti-people recently but also recognising I need to socialise a bit so that it doesn't sink into total social dysfunction heh.
Miniest needs new shoes. I need new work boots. Shopping whilst avoiding the heat. Tackling Mount Washmore. Not much I guess.
Tis a warm weekend and perfect for scaling that treacherous peak. I need to wash some woolens that have been sitting in my clothes basket from when I moved in...
I am very much over trying to move and photograph heavy things to sell. Especially because there is not much room to move them in. But I've been having a good run on Marketplace and hopefully these will all be cleared out and I can stop tripping over them. buying that antique post drill press seemed a much better idea when I didn't realise how big and heavy it was! Getting it to the front door if I manage to sell it is going to be quite a workout.
Hello! 👋🏻
I’m not sure if you already know about these or if they would be useful but there’s something you can slide under heavy things to help move them. Furniture lift tool thingy.
Consisting of a lever and four little platforms with castors https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sz5SSe4cgnA&pp=ygUJI3JhaGFlc3lh
Edit: They had them at Bunnings but I’m sure they’re not exclusive
They are good. I'm pretty sure I used to have some, and am now wondering where they went. Unfortunately they wouldn't help in this case though - it's all stuff like old tools, including a really heavy old drill press that is designed to be mounted on a post - my guess it is around 40-50kg, with handles and things sticking out everywhere to make it even more awkward. The rest is at least only heavy because there are so many things - including a rediculous number of hand saws. I'm not even sure where they have all come from, but begin to suspect that someone has been sneaking into my shed to add extra struff! It's amazing what 20 years of living in the same spot can see you accumulate.
Aaaaah... Bed... Nice to put the feet up at last
I must have walked at least 5k yesterday, probably my longest walk in a year. I'm a bit tired but also glad my back isn't sore from it. 🙂
This. I need this mug!
We appear to work at the same job
Omg that's me!
Just trapped a wolf spider in the sink. Couldn't get out. Damn fast buggers. But I will be merciful.
Gonna take it outside
E: Oops. Resident magpie saw me do that.. RIP wolf spider.
Magpie is now your bff though
What up party people
I’ve been to Whistler Blackcomb a couple of times. That’s really all I know of Canada.
So based on that limited experience, 6/5 Hobbits
🫡🇨🇦
As weird as it may sound, Aussie culture is closer to British and American culture, than Canadian culture is to both those.
Canada shook away it's British roots quite a bit (wtf is cricket anyway) and tried to distance itself culturally from America due to proximity.
However Canadian humour and Aussie humour is very different, but appealing to each other.
I had a view of Canada from my desk for a few years.
6/5 Hobbits
Whistler is the Gold Coast of Canada.
Holidays for some locals and many foreigners, not looked down upon, but not really celebrated
If you want to know about Canada, ask away. Apart from recent stuff, cause I've lived here for two decades now.
I need to restock my snack tin.
I will be taking suggestions. Savoury or sweet are equally acceptable to me, but please bear in mind my snack tin is a pretty standard rectangular biscuit tin in terms of size.
Those flavoured seaweed snacks. I’m addicted and just sad I can’t buy them in bulk (large packet, not multiple small packets)
Bhuja mix! (Although I'm not sure if that's considered savoury)
Gingernut biscuits
Mini tin of canned corn or butter beans
Jerky sticks or string cheese or Babybel
Crackers for Vegemite or peanut butter
banana chips
Nuts, museli bars, Le Snaks, can of tuna, dry biscuits.
Taught the kid how to play gin rummy. She did good.
Looks like my good run on marketplace is at an end. Today's buyer was a no show, and the person who made an offer on another item yesterday has ghosted. I knew it was too good to last!
Gah! We've been getting Can I have it free, also delivered to the total other side of the city? This is why I prefer just giving stuff away.
My favourite was the guy interested in my $5 fishing net, who asked if I could post it and told me he didn't need the handle so I could cut it off with a hacksaw.
I'm a definite fan of giving stuff away, but stuff you can't just drop down at the op shop is a pain. I've found if I put a low price on there will often be competition to take it off my hands, but some items seem to just bring out crazy people no matter what you do. The fishing net was a bit wild, I was totally flooded with enquiries for that one. According to the guy that bought it it's a really good net for boat fishing because it's really deep and has a lip you can use to pull the boat towards you, but I still think the 30+ enquiries I was flooded with in the first few hours is a bit odd.
Well that was surprisingly not so difficult. REA was on leave and had no auto reply but when I called the agency they were very attentive, escalated to another PM who called me then got in touch with the owners and scheduled in a maintenance request all within 2 hours. Pumber called at lunch, they'll come in on Monday. I guess it's a good thing the next two days are gonna be hot so I won't really need the hot water anyway!
Relieved it didn't involve a whole lot of back and forth and procrastinating from the REA/dodgy shit.
maintenance request all within 2 hours
From experience.. very wise on their part. Water can ruin everyone's day.
Especially hot water... and especially when the tenant isn't paying for any of it
Downside of new house, no Pokestops! Plenty a short wander away, but no ability to just drop a lure and stay home if the weather is vile. I shall have to do something about this...
Turn your house into a moving castle.
Bunnings list: giant chicken legs
My house has 3 pokestops nearby and a gym. If I feel like walking 3 minutes, 4 more stops and 2 more gyms.
I feel blessed.
I can currently get three stops without leaving the house, and often one of those stupid dynamax things. 2 gyms are just out of range. Spoilt rotten.
I got so lucky during covid that our house was in range of a stop. At times the GPS would go weird and I'd end up at the nearby hospital where i could spin a few more as well
The buddy pickup kept me going at the beginning until we moved here in a gap between lockdowns
I had to look up what a pokestop was. I thought it was a franchise of shops that sell poke bowls. I thought you must really love salads. Then I looked up pokemon go and watched a short video on it. Wow it's like a whole new language. Looks like fun though.
I'm in between a gym, a pokestop and a power spot, but not within reach of any. If I walk the block, I get one more stop. But there's a few route options nearby, so that's nice.
people still play it?
wow. I had no idea it was still going!
wow. I had no idea it was still going!
It is alive and for sale. I was an avid Ingress player in it's infancy days. I'm actually responsible for no small number of pokestops around Melbourne. The Preston strip in particular is mostly my work.
omg, I got quite burnt yesterday
also got a hair cut, was tired of longish hair, always getting caught in it when I'm I'm trying to sleep , got 15 cm off
and got a bunch of stuff to give away today, I'll just put it out in the courtyard
Water and take care of the burn, eek!
I’ve got hair down to my butt and keep baulking at cutting it. All I ever do is put in a pony tail or a bun, but it takes so much effort to style.
I had long hair but not that long about 15 years ago. It's a lot of work , the main thing was I had to put it into a plait every night or I couldn't sleep.
My main gurl letting us know her thoughts:
Playing videos is a pita here.
Doesn’t work on iOS devices from what I remember, some androids devices could and I think desktops could.
The amount of blankets I had on last night was ridiculous, considering how warm it is going to be today...
Life on the upside (because I'm only a misanthropic misery guts 99.¯9% of the time)... Yesterday, I got an unexpected message from a beautiful soul I know and I passed one unit with an unexpected mark (like the bell curve must have been hell skewed, but I'll take it damn it!).
I mean, how can I even feel sorry for myself half the time the way I do? I should kick me the backside.
Have an amazing day, DDT fam!
Frustrated at today. Today should be peaceful and stress free.
Total opposite and not getting through my work as fast as I’d like.
Cat tax to cleanse the eyes of all those who dared to read my witchy-toes update. I gotchu fam
Lol I love the perspective of this picture
sky pretty
Test run sedating the cats. TheVoid isn't visibly affected but the LittleOne is utterly out of his gourd.
There was much snerking when my teenager learned about those in biology
I’m ready to leave work.
Hiding at the moment so I can leave a few mins early.
I had two coffees yesterday... That was a bad idea
Dude outside the local Woolies playing electric guitar, heavy metal MADNESS bloody awesome 😎
Any Murderbot fans out there? Apple TV is releasing a show based on the books. Very excited but fascinated to see if it works - the books are great largely because of murderbot's internal dialogue...
She won 2/4 hands. Lol.
I think I saw a wattlebird today.
The bin for compost arrived today but the rotary tool to drill holes isn’t here yet. I wonder if I might not be biting off more than I can chew in terms of physical work. Ugh. I would much rather stay in bed with furbaby.
Also look out - Melbcat has been tasting tiny pieces of Marie biscuit and is actually eating them. Next she’ll be sipping my tea!
count down to severance 😬😬😬 and then 🤯
I’m on two hardcore antibiotics myself now for this damn tooth. Feeling sick and this becoming such a money pit. -_- I know it’s not the best choice but if these fail too I might discuss my options around just pulling it.
so many hugs
Today's google doodle is a fun little moon phase game! It's quite cute.
Please to report my QCs did not die. Worked out it was probably the cable, after being able to get some sound through with jiggling it. $7 replacement cable arrived today and we're back to regularly scheduled programming. 😎
Introducing way too many people in the office to the good ol’ chocolate spider. The Kiwi and the South African I’ll excuse, but there’s a fair few Aussies that have never had one! 😲 Classic kids party staple!
never had one
Highly recommend trying one sometime! Fun little treat. I'd offer one of mine, but the office has happily demolished them.
Just realised I forgot to bring my growler to get it filled up at the brewery on the way home from work. Probably for the best, it felt a bit on the expensive side last time I got it filled up
It's an extra lucky dip near me. One time I went and they said they couldn't fill it because it doesn't have a label. It's been all good every other time.
So who knows what will happen every time I turn up? It's a fun game of Beer Chance
Reading is the second best balm for a troubled mind. First is mr seagoon 🙂 , 3rd is music
