Healthcare CEO shot and killed I for one am STOKED to watch the US finally kick off the "eat the rich" portion of late stage capitalism.
The last few words of that article
"touched so many lives".
He certainly did. Was reading that UHC had the highest claim denial rate in the US, something like 33%.
Oh I stopped reading the second it started to make me feel sympathy for this monster. he put profits before people. That was his job, but we should really live in a world where CEOs get paid so high because screwing over sick people is a dangerous job.
The F is the point in everyone being armed in America if they DONT pull shit like this.
Ha ha, I've heard the killer be referred to as Healthcare Batman
touched in a bad way
He looks like he sells dodgy used cars. Like Matilda's father.
With banks here trying to make people pay to access their own money and supermarket fulfilment centres with terrible working conditions, it just might give people here ideas
The planet has tolerated these intolerant financial vampires for too long.
Motorhead - Eat The Rich - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wh3t49NsWBA
The speculation and response to this murder has been intriguing. I saw a comment online speculating that if rich people instead of kids start being targets of shootings, perhaps there will finally be movement on the question of gun control.
Ooooof solid call. no freakin doubt! Or is this the rise of the private military protecting folks and the start of the "protected" citizen?
I thought I'd share this story. I don't know why.
I've had the same problem so to speak.
I switched up my diet inadvertently and also cut out a lot of sugary drinks and stuff and I've accidently lost weight because of that.
What's not so nice is that people think I've lost weight and there's a problem because of it.
I had to talk to someone the other day and explain that I am actually eating well and stuff and because of inflation and a few choices to not buy certain things any more it's led to my accidental weight loss.
I don't like having to discuss my weight at all and I also don't really pay attention to it but it bothers me and I made it known.
Good on him. I cut the soft drinks many years ago when I started looking after my health, they're full of sugar and empty calories. I never crave soft drink anymore. Turned to diet drinks initially when making the switch, and then eventually you can cut those as well. The awful artificial chemical taste of most of them gets old quick. These days I go for ice tea if I want a sweet drink, but water does me fine.
Wow that's great. Good onya.
Have you found that it's made a difference by cutting the drinks out?
Soda water here. I get the pleasure of the fizzy drink, but it is actually good for me. Occasionally I'll put a little lemon juice in it for flavour.
soda stream knock off was a HUGE game changer for me. Bit of lime juice and in the early days a touch of sugar was just as nice.
That's a good idea.
Aye now I treat soft drinks like alcohol and if I need a sugar boost. For fun and for social situations when I want something to sip. Small change, huge difference.
That's the way to do it. If I'm out socialising and I'm not drinking, I'll have a soft drink.
Oh wow, good on him
I never really got into sugary soft/energy drinks. I am quite fond of sugar free study drinks though. I can't stand coke zero, too chemical-y. But I enjoy a can of Pepsi max with my dinner most nights
check out vital zing, great for kicking the sugar addiction
I'll have a look at that thanks
Good on him!!! That's a hell of an achievement!
Yeah. He's pretty proud.

Was about to head back to melbs.. look down next to my foot and there's a funny looking big XLR cable. Audio studio cables everywhere. Fuckn cable moved. Was a brown snake about 50cm long. Managed to get it outside thankfully it wasn't aggressive. I'm not very upset by snakes except the eastern brown snake. Those mfers will ruin your day. Sheesh.

Let me introduce one of the strays I've been feeding near my place. I'm really excited because one of them is starting to trust me. I've found them waiting around 8-9pm which is kind of cool.
Edit:
So kind of you, that cat wants that food so bad. For some reason I get the feeling Gibson might prefer to have you all to herself lol!
Gibson, i believe, can only exist in a 1 cat household. She barely tolerates my existence lol
It's not really an interview but I am meeting a principal at a (Catholic) school about my placement on Monday. Chinos and a button shirt should be ok?
Shoes are gonna be a problem now that I think about it.
yeah I'd say thats fine. You're a writer, they should be thankful you dont show up with a tweed jacket, pipe and foot long beard.
Well now I want too...
Hoping this Woolies strike continues into Christmas tbh. Make then feel it
Agreed
I went in yesterday and was kinda surprised by how much stuff was still on the shelves at my local store. I do wish there was some way we could redirect the Karen's away from yelling at the poor people working the store, and instead getting them to have a cheeky punch on with the CEO lady. I'd paid to see that
Karens vs CEO, you know what, it couldn't be any worse than the Jake Paul v Tyson fight.
I keep hearing about the Woolies strike, but I honestly haven't noticed a difference in store so far. Maybe I will with tomorrow's shop? Or maybe WA is immune to it.
It's a Victorian distribution centre where the strikes are happening, I suspect WA would have their own separate centres given the distance from coast to coast, so unless their workers join the blockade there probably won't be much interruption there.
Random memory: During the time Melbcat needed a lot of trips to emergency and before I had any help or the pram, a taxi driver refused to let her carrier in the car and demanded that she go in the boot. I can tell you that did not happen. I argued with the driver until he refused to take us, called another ride and then boycotted the taxi company.
This was for reasons of not wanting to put her in a dark claustrophobic airless space by herself, and separated from me. (There’s no reason the driver would have taken off with her but I didn’t want to even make that possible.) Also if the vehicle got hit from behind she would have been severely injured or killed. It was unsafe.
And now I see that what he was trying to push me into was illegal.
Adequate ventilation must be provided in the vehicle and travelling container or cage.
And
Travelling containers must be secured or restrained in the vehicle. Cats must not be transported in the boot of a car.
Fuck that guy. My instincts were correct and even in a difficult situation I stuck to my guns and protected my cat.
I should have lodged a complaint but had my hands full and nothing would have come of it.
Be a Karen if you need to, people.
When I lived in Melbourne I had a pet cockatiel. I had to get yearly check ups, and the only Avian vet was out in Burwood, so taxi it was.
But every time I called to book a taxi, I told them I’m coming with a bird in a large cage and I could spill water. Just because I was worried about getting turned down for a ride.
FYI, the taxi drivers always loved it.
Yeah after that I always verbally confirmed that a cat would be riding with each booking from the new company. And then they automated bookings so I couldn’t anymore…
Welcome to the time of the year where I cry at the drop of a hat. This morning we’ve had because my eyeliner is wonky, my pants feel scratchy, a song made me think of my dog and IDK, just work in general. Today sucks.
Something positive to balance the post is that I received a package of “homemade” jams and sauces and omg the roasted capsicum ketchup is delicious. And they threw in a sample of their raspberry jam and I want to bathe in it.
The daily Discussion Thread sounds shit. I dare whoever to make it The Melbourne chitchat thread. Creativity people. Let's be different.

Made it back to Melbs.
Caught the 109 home from southern x. 109 is usually a c class. 2 middle floor bits swivel as it turns corners. Anyway my backpack clip got caught in the gap as it turned and I couldn't get it out. Clip was just swallowed by the floor disc of despair. So there I am every corner the tram turned trying to get the fuckin thing out.
We got there though! Otherwise would've had to have waited until box hill and get the driver to help lol.
Bought some cheese today
We need a review
I don’t have a cheese ranking but this one would be top 5. It’s a real soft buttery flavour combined with small chunks of jalapeño to keep it interesting.
It’s not too spicy at all so can be enjoyed by most people. You can eat this with anything so it’s a good workhorse cheese with a little bit of flair.
5/5 Hairy-footed halflings
yummm
Ooh, that's yummo cheese!
My good deed for the day is done: I picked the rest of the cherries from the tree & took them up to the food cupboard with a couple of kilo of parsnips. Walking up to the cupboard with Mr Woof seemed like a great idea, but carrying about 8kg whilst managing a dog leash is not the easiest of tasks.
I’ve hung washing out. Sheets and towels. So prepare for cool change and rain.
I hung sheets out half an hour ago so I can share the blame. But it looks like it's moving pretty slowly, we might be ok.
gonna try this watermelon sorbet with some overly ripe watermelon. Wish me luck!
Hi, Indonesian here. Just wanna ask, is it true that Bahasa Indonesia are taught in schools in Australia? I talked to an Australian recently and surprised that they can speak a bit of Indonesian
Selamat datang! I learnt Bahasa Indonesia in primary school in the nineties. I've forgotten most of it but some key words and phrases have stuck. All schools teach at least one language other than English, but which language it is varies by school.
Sure is! My primary school in the 90s taught us in my language class :D
Yes at my daughter's primary school from prep to grade 2.
Selamat datang!
At my school it was taught from yr 9-12. It was either Indonesian, German or Chinese. German and Indonesian were compulsory in yr 9.
yes I did it in grade 456.
Hi there! Yes, some schools teach it, mostly private schools. That is, not the state run schools but the ones run by the churches (various) or by private organisations. The school I went to back in the 70s required study of at least one language, and Bahasa Indonesia was one of the choices available. The others were French German Latin & Spanish at that time - nowadays there's more focus on Chinese and Japanese. There's also been a lot of tourism from Australia to Indonesia for quite some time now - at least since the 70s and probably before. Some fairly strong trade links - one category of cattle for sale in northern Australia are officially classified as 'Light Indonesian Steers' and the price is reported on state media once a week.
I learned Indonesian in primary school and it was on offer in high school. Selamat Pagi!
Ah, g'day!
I've never heard of Indonesian being taught at schools here, however some schools offer additional language classes (usually French or Italian for some reason, in my experience), so in a particularly Indonesian suburb, it wouldn't surprise me if there was a school offering Bahasa Indonesian classes
I learned a bit in grade 3 (which I have forgotten except counting to ten) and it was available as an option in high school
My third grade teacher would spend the school holidays over there teaching and could speak it very well
At my school we only had the choice of Chinese (Mandarin), French and Latin.
Edit: Actually who cares
Edit 2: Oh sorry for sending the wrong vibe, I wasn't venting, I just posted some dumb uninteresting banter.

It’s The Daily Discussion Thread
we rally around the banner of DT and carry it across ANY and ALL digital platforms. It’s our Sigil and Shield.
Here is the flag:
That's actually not a bad flag at all. Simple concept and obeys heraldic colour rules. Slightly painful to sew.
I have spent $964.60 on coffees this year. As they've crept up from $3 to $4 to $5.30 over the last decade or so, I haven't noticed the difference it makes to overall finances.
If I had a club membership at the cafe where coffees were free, but annual membership cost $1k, I wouldn't take that up. Yet, it amounts to the same thing.
The road to poverty is paved with lots of little expenses that don't seem too significant, but which add up to a lot.
At the same time we are not used to seeing the yearly totals of what we spend, so quite resonable spending can be perceived differently when looked at that way. Your brain is anchored to around $5 being a reasonable price for coffee, seeing $1K attached to the spending just feels wrong.
Sometimes going further and looking at the amount over years can have the opposite effect as you start comparing it to other big things - cut out coffee for 10 years and you could save $10K . So cutting coffee is not going to get you a house deposit, or a new car - it might get you one holiday, which you will deperately need after 10 years without coffee.
Does that include coffee at home or just cafe expenditures?
I would take that $1k deal in a heartbeat
This is just the cafe expenses (bank statement merchant filter).
Besides home coffee, this number also misses the occasional 7-Eleven coffee I've bought through the year; but there'd only be a dozen or so of those. If we went to total coffee expenditure, I expect the overall total would be probably 1.5x this amount. On top of beans purchased for home, I'm partial to the occasional iced coffee milk thingy. There'd easily be a 50+ of those to throw into the mix.
Yikes. Coffee disagrees with me, but that's enough $ to avoid taking up the habit anyway.
As vices go, it's cheaper than alcohol or cigarettes - and less likely to kill me. I wouldn't call myself addicted to caffeine, but all evidence points to that declaration being suspect. I will say that I've had occasion to go without caffeine for a few days more than once and have never had the headaches people report from missing out on their coffee. Sadly, I also never get the 'energy boost' people are supposed to get from coffee.
2 coffees a day , 48 weeks a year, 10 x48 x$5 =2400
Slept from 7pm-ish to 4.30am. I guess I had a sleep debt to pay lol
Today I am going to watch a boring, relaxing and information video on antique furniture restoration
Transcend Furniture Gallery and Flipping Drawers are my favorites for this sort of content. They have nice cats.
yikes look at that radar. incoming!
Ayup. I reckon it'll hit at about 5 pm .... but then, I'm an optimist.
I reckon there'll be very little rain in the cbd as usual
I have no umbrella and need to take PT about 5-5:30pm, great. From sweaty this morning to drenched.
It's gonna be like sauna tomorrow. Ew
Police are outside. One of our neighbours had they car broken into.

YouTube is starting to really turn to shit. All these short or auto play videos with very little substance that are basically TikTok
Edit: And the ads are absolutely relentless. (Adblock doesn’t seem to work anymore.) No I won’t be paying for premium
My uBlock Origin is still holding strong on the computer. You really need SponsorBlock in the mix as well, and DeArrow is good for de-clickbaiting titles and thumbnails
YouTube ReVanced on Android is fantastic. You can enable all of those things in one app if you like. It is a bit buggy at times though. But there's also a feature you can choose to hide everything to do with YT Shorts, the shorts bar, shorts notifications, shorts in the subscription tab, etc etc. don't think you can only computer though
starting to think about a pi hole for my home network tbh.
It won't work for YouTube ads, sadly
you won't believe the yt's I've seen
I've found it to be so slow to load a video on my phone. And they ruined queuing up videos to a chromecast
Every year I used to do the pudding challenge which was buy a pudding, let it sit there and when the time is right attack. Can't do it now cos my diet has changed so much over the year. It's a good thing though. Just a little sad.
modern puddings skimp on the brandy
it should have lots and lots of brandy, be wet with brandy
same with mince pies, they should have lots and lots of brandy
Am I the weirdo, having never liked pudding?
You just haven't found the pudding that's right for you.
Yes. Yes you are. It's like hot cake with sauce, what's not to like?!
Bought ones are horrible. Gotta be homemade and with decent ingredients. Omit all citrus peel if that's what's provoking the gag reflex. The mix of fruit is OPTIONAL - can use any dried fruit to make up the volume required. I like having apricot and dried cranberries in the mix but that's just me. My sister uses more sultanas than the Ottoman Empire at its height, dried mango and paw paw, and no currants at all. Both of us use whisky rather than brandy as such. Brandy belongs in the brandy butter to be served with it in our households.
The real joy of xmas pudding is Boxing Day breakfast, with slices of pud fried in a mix of equal quantities of brandy butter and orange juice, with custard. Perfect, I say perfect, hangover cure.
You're not drowning it In enough custard
I made another fly trap and this one is working. Thanks everyone here for the advice
A bit sweltery out there already. I managed to get the back garden area mostly weeded and did some cutting back of overhanging trees and the bamboo.
I had a parsnip and carrots self seed in there early this year, so weeding has yielded me a basket full of carrot and parsnip (mostly parsnip). I think I'll be taking some of the parsnip up to the food cupboard, I doubt I'll be able to eat it all myself. If I can find enough enthusiasm to brave the heat and pick some more cherries I might take some of those up too, but right now I think it's way to hot and icky to contemplate it/
The rain has arrived
It's just started spitting a bit here. I managed to fill the wheelie bin with weeds before it arrived (and unearthed lots of potatoes in amoungst it all) but I've now retreated inside.

I have a massive crick in my neck and had maybe an hour proper sleep. Today is not going to be fun.
That sounds like me yesterday. I was on the verge of calling in sick, but went in and felt better after a few hours (and after a couple of panadol and coffee). I'm hoping for the same result for you today.
Thanks
Sounds horrible, sounds like a migraine day to me.
Take it easy today.
Sounds like a sickie to me
Thankfully I don't work Fridays
Sleep didn't work so I'm on my way to work with roughly 4 hours of sleep. Also, some wise guy broke the Mernda/Hurstbridge line. Which of youse was it?
It's a long-term issue for me that I'm not getting enough sleep. I usually average around 6 hours a night. This year, my average is 5:42, I haven't managed a 6-hour average for any 4-week period this year. I need to work on this, 5 hours a night was ok when I was 20. But I haven't been 20 for a long time.
I am EXHAUSTED! Between some very long work days, a big psych session, lots of uni stuff, long xmas party today and socialising... and tomorrow is another long day of family stuff up in the 'Rat too...
Ready to just hit the bed now. Thank goodness it's cooled down. Last night was hard. Stupid West facing furnace
Now she seems to be somewhat in pain so I’m fretting a bit. Despite the vets saying that it was ok, it was a very safe spot and they can be a bit sooky after.
A lot is going on lately and I’m feeling emotionally fragile af. I wish I wasn’t such a sook myself.

Big rain cometh. Looks like we won't miss it this time. I didn't bring a brolly to work, so its my fault. Sorry.
I'm taking the dog out early. He's giving me eyes, I reckon he's got a barometer in there somewhere.
Oh thank goodness. Third nosebleed of the day. Need some cool!

So: I'll grab a waffle cone with 2 scoops - the first will be choc mint chip, the 2nd will be mars bar. I'll grab hundreds and thousands on the top, and a bottle of watermelon refreshment flavoured water thanks

I've sorted out all my plants and discovered I missed ordering one - or maybe I decided against it and forgot to take it off my plan, because I'm not sure it really fit the space I had down for it anyway.
I also received a free plant, but the label has partly rubbed off and I have no idea what it is. I've sent the company an email so will hopefully find out - I can't really plant it anywhere if I don't know how big it will get. I'm hoping to get a brief cooler period this afternoon to plant a few out, but I'll probably mostly be dodging storms and showers to get them in tomorrow and Sunday.

:::I had a meeting with a guy about my business offering. He's one of those outgoing, posts on LinkedIn types. He did one of those breakdowns on how your business could be a million dollar business in 5 years, which every business could be in theory.
My main takeaway is if I could capture 10% of the enthusiasm these sorts of people have, maybe I can cover my end of the mortgage and childcare without needing to dip into my own wages. Anything on top of that is a bonus.
The ABC News app is all different...not sure if I like it or not.
My app updated a while back and I hate the new design. Feels dumbed down sorta.
I prefer the guardian for my news anyway these days lol
ABC now seems to feed you a lot of videos and lifestyle type stories. I go there because I want to keep on top of any important news that is happening, not to be entertained, so the new version is pretty useless for me. I've pretty much stopped using it as a news source since the new design came in.
This news app.
Yeah, I wasn't a fan of that either
I can assure you though, it is now worse
yeah, I've mostly stopped looking at it. I'd love to know what their viewer stats are, as I've heard the same thing from a lot of people.
Great result @Duenan@aussie.zone now we need to follow it up with some great batting.
Let’s hope they can do it!
I wonder how many more hours of play there is?
I love getting updates on the cricket from you and duenan, much more entertaining than watching it 😂😂
Cricket is summer
Well we’re 0/4 at the moment so that’s something.
Nervous this might be a repeat of Perth. That was a train wreck.
Oooh today was such a shitshow I forgot the cricket was even on.....
Oh it's on and it is good so far.
So it begins. One wicket down already.

Ok gaming is out of my system. Time for a wander and some tunes.
Mmmmm lunch
What's for lunch today, jonesy?
Lemon pepper fish and some greenery
So looks like we’re going for the bananas. 🍌 💉
Torturing fruit wasn’t on my bingo card for this year but gotta get those nursing skills up. The worse time these bananas have the easier things will be for my cat. This will also be useful in future when she starts to need sub q fluids.
It’s just my nerves and my damn hands. Wondering if some thumb splints would help stabilise them.
Edit: Also why am I not allowed to save the video to my cat care playlist because it’s designated for kids? I mean… is this targeted content for children? Are they often required to watch veterinary training content? Wild.
I was told that surgeon school interview includes apple peeling. I happen to be excellent at that but I have no intention to become a surgeon.
Oh wow really? I can kind of peel an apple with a knife but it’s taxing on my hands and hard to do thin peels or long strips
Anyone got a good trifle recipe? I normally do a summer pudding for Christmas but we're doing a picnic and it doesn't travel well enough.
I stand by this one. It’s very nice. Sprinkle crushed nuts on top as well if you want some additional texture
Ooh, thanks!
The male flowers are dying fast, they had no pollen in them when I swabbed for it with a cotton bud, and the female flower that was literally about to open last night has already opened then somewhat closed like it’s on its way out. Are you for real right now?
There’s a garden on my block where their zucchini are setting fruit already and mine are just trolling me.
I wasn’t able to get my pumpkin and tomato seeds, they got forgotten and not brought. That’s ok though. There were higher priorities and I’m lucky I got help to get to the vet today
Blergh. Ya Llab is tired.
Xmas pahtee done. At least the next one is closer to home.
(Someone drop me somewhere with perfect mild weather in where no time passes equivalent to about 4-6 week. Thank you.)
Interview went well!!!
Invited to meet the ceo in person next week :)
If i get this, I'm done climbing the ladder. This is the role that will keep me with a safety net.
Something else happened this week which was cool. I reconnected with one of my best friends that I lost when I went off the rails. I found him on Facebook and apologised for my behaviour and he actually messaged me back saying "... I know that wasn't the real you".
It's been 12 years since we spoke. Tomorrow he's going to call me so we can catch up.
I've been struggling with feeling isolated the last few months. Wondering if it's going to be like this for the rest of my life.
I'm so fucking glad he responded. We were inseperable. He taught me to play drums and I taught him guitar.
Thats all awesome! Congrats!
If you been feelin a bit alone you shoulda said. We could grab a drink and bitch about work or games or whatever.
I appreciate it man. I'll drop my number and psn tag in a private message.

Ps. This will make you laugh. We made Amr Diab rich. Nour El Ain was our #1 Spotify song.
I saw that yesterday 🤣 Well done!
yay, this is awesome, so happy for you 🙂
Thanks ❤️ It's nice when things go your way for a bit.
Congratulations man, and it's so nice to get "your people" back 🙂
Fucking aye!!!
Met him the first day when I moved to Adelaide and was there for almost 7 years.
It's hard to forget someone you've known that long and saw pretty much every single day ❤️
Congrats!
Always a nice feeling reconnecting :)
Cheers man. It blew me away tbh. Wasn't expecting a response.
That is such a lovely story.
