If I were a cheese, I would be a Gorgonzola. It’s not a popular cheese and can be quite salty with a bite from my blue veining. However, there are devout followers who love to crumble it on a boring salad to make it interesting.

My Spotify wrapped has been disappointing me over the past few years. I used to have such an eclectic music taste, but getting older I'm listening to what's familiar to me a bit too much. I don't like the complacency.

Going to spend the next few weeks saving some new music to listen over the holidays, and listening to albums I've saved over the year but never bothered to listen. Currently listening to Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk, for fans of synth-pop and prog-rock this one is for you.

Spotify recommends stuff you already play so that's why I ask the DT for new stuff. The only new artist that I really really like is Dua Lipa.

All in all, I'm happy. Now my wifi needs should be future proofed for like a decade unless something breaks. Wifi 7 is too expensive, so it's just wifi 6e, and only gigabit (with a single 2.5gbps port). Way over kill for my 100mbps FTTC plan, but I live in hope that one day I shall behold gigabit FTTP

I lost my birth certificate AND my passport so I had to jump on Vic Birth Death Marriages website and jump through hoops (on my own end) to order a new birth certificate. My god what a horrible, unintuitive website. I have no idea if I've done it correctly or if it is being processed now or not.

I had to do that too a few years ago, because mum lost my actual birth certificate and I only had the extract, which is useless for everything.

When I lived in Ballarat, I used to go to the animal shelter once a week and spend time with the cats. Kind of a yearning for not having a cat in the vicinity for (literally) the first time in my entire life. They had floor to ceiling cages with 5 cats in each. They also had a couch in there, obviously intended for the cats, but nobody minded if you chilled out on it and brought treats for the cats

I feel like I’m in limbo. Dunno what to do now.

I did come to the unfortunate realisation that chocolate topping I thought was empty (and closed) spilled onto a laptop I had running an ArchiveTeam warrior and BOINC projects. It's probably been seeking in, basking in the hot cpu for 2 or 3 days

I isopropyl'd as much as I could, but I'm not confident in laptop disassembly. Now debating if it's worth taking it to a repair shop to get a proper scrub done, or hoping my surface level (plus whatever IPA seeped inside) fixes it

Today has been really rough for anxiety. Everything is hard right now and it’s a real struggle to cope. I caved and napped but at least I saw some sun and that will help nudge me towards the daytime.

Melbcat gets her b shots tomorrow and I’m really nervous about learning to do it.

The alyssum seeds have a best before of August… guess I’ll see if they sprout. The nasturtium should be fine. There’s an abandoned patch of earth that’s technically mine that I could sow directly into but I kind of don’t want to go out there because of unprotected proximity to a violent crazy neighbour and cooked passers by.

I might sow them into a container until they’re stronger then either plant them fast when the coast seems clear - or use recycled containers as pots. Or see how well they fight it out with the invasive grass that’s taken over what little soil I have in the yard.

I would have preferred these be native plants… Just trying to get some pollinators and good bugs in here and using what I could easily get my hands on.

I might spritz the zucchini with very weak soapy water, maybe like a drop of natural dish detergent, then water it off tonight.

I wouldn't plant them anywhere dodgy. I'd maybe look at putting them into an old ice cream tub, or for something a little more fancy (and smaller scale), I was thinking an old tin of monetta wafers would look fairly nice and shouldn't degrade as much as plastics would (and since there's no microplastics, you could probably plant it into the ground if you'd like)
- That’s a good idea, I can definitely sort something out. I bought foil baking trays as a makeshift seed starter tray so could potentially even just thin them out and leave them in that

Spray thrip with laundry/dishwashing liquid and water - 1:5 ratio. Can add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil (any sort) to mix if necessary for more lasting effect, but will need to shake up the spray bottle well before using. Won't harm plants or pets and is a good sucking insect spray. I like using this better than chemicals. Best applied generously in the evening.
- Are you sure? I was going to do this with garlic and dish soap but a bit worried about hurting the plants. Heard it’s bad for them and the ones I used to use dish soap solution on looked kinda damaged 😭

I forgot to turn on the exhaust fan when cooking my steak and the air filter is not impressed with the resulting air quality. It's little indicator light went to red and it's been filtering as fast as it can. Sorry little guy, but keep up the good work.

Heh mine lights up red and that's when the extractor is on full. It's around the corner and about 5m down the hall. Very dramatic.

Opinions please - dodgy, or reading too much into it?

I ordered a new router (a couple hundred bucks) off Amazon. Because of the value, I need to provide a pin code on delivery (pretty sure it is so I can't argue I never received it). They say you can only use a pin code, but I know from past experience that delivery drivers have a button to deliver with the phone number on file instead of the pin code. I guess in case somebody doesn't have their pin code

The drivers have a button to call the number on file via amazons number in Sydney, but they don't see your number, just name. I got 5 calls (missed the first 4 from the driver, watering the garden and left my phone inside) and when I answered he asked for my phone number. I was worried about giving it over the phone, because I'm fairly sure if I did, he could mark it delivered to himself then Amazon would tell me I'm SoL. When I refused, he got a bit snarky and said "ok you don't want package then that your choice", even though I said I'd be home, then he hung up

Seems dodgy, right? I don't know how their systems work, but I'm pretty sure they don't even get the button to call you until they scan the barcode on your box, which I don't think they'd do until delivery time. So I'm kinda wondering if maybe he tried to deliver it to himself and called me to get my number so he could. But I also know they are basically glorified uber eats drivers and get paid per parcel, so perhaps the less cynical assumption is he wanted my number so he could deliver it as soon as it arrives and doesn't need to wait the 3 seconds for me to answer the door, which probably does negatively impact averages. Idk. Just feels sus

for something that you paid that much for make sure you take a video of you opening the box or open the box in front of the delivery guy

- Apparently another scam with these OTP things is that if you order multiple things (I got a router and some ethernet cables), sometimes they come in multiple boxes, and the driver "forgets" to give you the one which actually needed the OTP. But because Amazon never tells you how many boxes you're getting, you'll give the driver the OTP thinking whatever box(es) you got are the entire order
  I have a camera on the porch. Gonna open it right under that after taking it off the driver. Amazon will 100% fight me if something's missing

- This is slightly different, as although they are that open about it, they can also deliver the package with just your phone number (or I think it's the last 4 digits or something like that). I have thus far (after coming home from work):

Eaten 2 chicken sausages, like heathen, straight outta the fridge (also a slice of banana bread).
Removed the floating shelf bracket, screws and plugs (one has a hole big enough for a journey to the centre of the earth, but at least I now have a sample big enough to get colour-matched).
Had a rinse.
Killed some bugs (sorry, there was just no other way).

Now need to go to Bunnings, maybe Ikea for some spares.

You don't have to engage. You can unfollow, unsub, ignore or switch off the socials for a few days. Sticking around when this type of thing happens (a bit like the Other Site exodus) just means you have to take some responsibility for how it makes you feel. A lot of people dont understand that, but its true. Not saying you do this, but I am saying make sure you DONT do this: I cant STAND people who expose themselves to toxic crap and then go "woe is me, I'm covered in toxic crap" like they didnt expose themselves to it in the first place.

I do apple cider vinegar and water in a narrow necked water bottle with a few drops of dish soap. The smelly malic acid of the vinegar attracts them, the narrow neck makes it hard to fly out and the soap breaks the surface tension of the water so they drown.
Boiling water down the sinks also kills them as they breed in there

- I mainly know this song because Elder Minipeeler is into WWE wrestling and this used to be Edge's intro song. An oldy but still gets me pumped up. The singer (Myles Kennedy) often accompanies Slash when he tours or records, and as a former guitar teacher, is worth a listen. Tremonti also worth a listen if you like your music a little harder.

I decided to get my mulch delivered instead of making multiple Bunnings trips myself. The weather's not looking great for gardening over the next few days but hopefully I can get the bulk of the planting done.

I also need to squeeze in time to do my uni assignment, I'll schedule that in during thunderstorms and any periods over 30 degrees.

- I have looked at those, and it would be great if I had somewhere for them to dump it. As it is I have a very short driveway as the only possible spot, and dumping stuff there blocks the access to the house, leaving me to dig myself out - and it all has to be carted down to the back of the house via a narrow side path. Whilst being unable to leave until the work is done is very motivating, it is also very exhausting!
  I have done bulk deliveries before - about 2 cubic meters is about the limit of what is possible for the space - but it is hard work. I've elected to spend more on bagged sugar cane mulch this time due to portability.

I wish I could tolerate ear plugs for sleeping but the noise they make squished up in my ears is worse than the noise I'm trying to block out fucks sake why must life be so hard bashes poorly built bbq

- thinking something like a relay that's held open by current, then closes when current's lost. Would need a separate power supply to power the light, but that's easy.
