Today is World Rainforest Day!
Don't tell my kids, but I don't really want to get up at 7:30 on a Saturday to go and watch them play hockey. I'm tired, it's cold, wet and I'm not really having fun.
I might be getting my first new computer in 14 years later today, so I have something to look forward to.
the darkness is over
the day gets longer
😎 the future is so bright I gotta wear shades ..
the darkness is over
\
the day gets longer
\
the sun is just that much brighter
\
the sky is becoming ever so lighter
\
the day gets longer
\
the darkness is over
I'm off to a mexican restaurant with mates
see ya later 😘😘😘
Have a great time!
Bring me back a spicy!
Enjoy 🍹
Spent this morning redoing my resume, and have now sent two applications with cover letters. I think that will do for today. Main part was ending the procrastination and actually sending out some applications. Feeling accomplished
Good onya, that's not an easy thing to push through, but it feels so good once the initial inertia has been shoved out of the way. I need some of that energy with my chores today! Here's hoping your efforts are rewarded with a better job very soon :)
Intertia is a great word. I hope your chores arr completed 💪👌
Putting yourself out there is scary. Good on you for taking the plunge.
My gonads have recessed and are shrivelled by the cool water of the plunge but they'll drop back down with my voice, once I've earned it
Good luck ! The cover letters have been the hardest and most troublesome part for me.
How anyone can crank out and personalise more than one a day (let alone 20) is a complete mystery.
My cat is so wiggly!
It's hard to believe that they have any bones at all.
If I tried to sleep like the cat does, I'd end up with backache for the next century.
Look at us all busy little bees today. I've managed a shower and I'm deciding whether to get dressed or not.
Lol don't worry. I only just got around to having a shower and getting dressed, and I only did that because I have a visitor soon. If it wasn't for him, I would still be in bed
It's been a very slow start for me, if that makes you feel better! I have tons on next week so I knew I had to get some things done today or I'd be punishing my future self when she's more tired and cranky.
Same, though I did get dressed.
Ii think I’ve been worse. I woke, had breakfast, chatted in the phone then went for a nap and that’s my day :/
It anyone ever figures out how to explain to your cat that awake time is for playing, not sleep time, let me know.
Or that when the people are trying to sleep it is not time for an argument with your siblings.
I'm still trying to work this one out as well
6 jars of marmalade made, 3 plants repotted, 1 load washing done and put away, another load in the machine
What do you typically have marmalade with, other than toast? Not having much of a sweet tooth, I can't imagine how one gets through even a jar of marmalade in a reasonable time, let alone 6.
Topping for cheesecake, glaze for apple tarts, anywhere where the intense sweetness plus fruity tartness and a bit of bitterness makes a nice contrast. Marmalade can be melted, sieved and the liquid used as a sauce on vanilla icecream too. Adding a bit of arrowroot & water to the sieved liquid sets it to a firm gel, which goes pretty good as an icing substitute on a plain pound cake. A small spoonful of marmalade is a nice addition to a stir fry sauce too along with soy etc. Try it with cauliflower or broccoli. Bearing in mind that a jar of marmalade for toast only every day is usually gone in a week, so 6 jars will last maaaayyyybeee the worst of the winter.
I use it in marinades for roast chicken , I give a few jars away but I mostly have it on toast , one jar lasts me about 3 weeks
an unintended consequence of having a day job is vitamin d deficiency so now i am rotating outside in tshirt and shorts
take vitamins 👍
i forgot to
A spot of fish now and then also won't go amiss.
Just a psa that there are high dose vitamin D tablets that can be taken once a week 👍
I smashed my free amazon prime membership for a month then cancelled it. Thanks for the postage suckers.
I do this every time it comes up too. Stock up on inconvenient stuff I know I don't need immediately but might as well get while I have free shipping. Stuff like a big roll of tough double sided tape suitable for outdoor use or copper tape for snails.
Currently doing this...
I bought a bunch of bulk foods that I'd otherwise have to run around town for and an instapot duo.
I have returned from the Lightscape thing. I haven't walked that far or up so many hills for... way too long. I am very sore.
Event was a nice family-friendly affair where we're shuffled through the gardens like cattle. Some of it was kinda meh but other bits had really cool effects. Pretty great food and drink options. Not as blatantly expensive as it could have been for that stuff. I was there with my sister, bro in law and niece.
Pretty pricey tickets though. A little cheaper on a weeknight.
World Rainforest Day
World: from Proto-Germanic *weraldi-, a compound of *wer "man" (Old English wer, still in werewolf; see virile) + *ald "age" (from PIE root *al- (2) "to grow, nourish").
Rainforest: apparently a loan-translation of German Regenwald, coined by A.F.W. Schimper for his 1898 work "Pflanzengeographie
Day: Old English dæg "period during which the sun is above the horizon," also "lifetime, definite time of existence," from Proto-Germanic *dages- "day" (source also of Old Saxon, Middle Dutch, Dutch dag, Old Frisian di, dei, Old High German tag, German Tag, Old Norse dagr, Gothic dags), according to Watkins, from PIE root *agh- "a day." He adds that the Germanic initial d- is "of obscure origin." But Boutkan says it is from PIE root *dhegh- "to burn" (see fever). Not considered to be related to Latin dies (which is from PIE root *dyeu- "to shine").
Australia has unique temperate rainforests in that they have the biome but not the high rainfall. Like in the Dandenongs, Macedons and the Otways.

Depressing weather. Have the fire going to get the washing dry. Discovered my shower is going mouldy. What is it with grout and silicon that we haven’t mould proofed it yet?
It's gloriously sunny where I am right now and has been for a while. Woke up at 9am and indulged in some YouTube silliness in bed until 10:45 but pushing out the laundry quick smart now. Dont think everything will finish washing in time but I think some of it can dry over tomorrow as well. I have so much cleaning to do, might as well be when it's sunny to help lift my mood.
Decided to take the kukri (further sharpened today on a silicone carbide stone) to the lemon tree for the first time as it needed pruning. Turns out to be a good fast tool for that work. Hit those little branches at 45 degrees.. straight through.
Ended up with 22kg (!) and heaps more to go :)

#Feeling better this morning. But of a late start but that's ok. Needed the extra sleep.
Pick one, so I may judge ye
Kingston are the best. Occasionally a Monte Carlo (a bit too sweet), and the rest can wither away in the biscuit jar.
Monte Carlo every time
Judgement: fuck yeah 🤘
Dunno if I can still have them but Kingston are the best biscuit in there
Kingston would be my first pick. Delta Cream / Jaffa Cream last, if I want chocolate biscuits I’ll buy Oreo.
Judgement: Jaffa being last is a hot take, I don't agree but appreciate the brutal honesty lol
Monte Carlo and I think there’s one with an orange filling as well?
Judgement: 10/10, great choices
Yep, the delta jaffa cream
Kingston, and then shortbread cream
Judgement: you start off strong, but finish quite blandly 5/7
Nah shortbread is really quite scrumptious 💜
Tried out a new cafe near my place, Miniest has been bugging me about wanting to try it out for a while. Was unfortunately overpriced and a bit meh. Did some cooking, mostly homemade pizza and stuffed capsicums, which Mr P swooned over (he was drunk so it doesn't really count lol). Made an assault on Mount Washmore. Left it on the line when I should have brought it in tonight because sheer laziness.
Stuffed capsicum are the absolute best!
Fully agree. A favorite.
Laundry all done and hanging up outside. Others have got laundry out as well so I've had to hang mine fairly close. If it doesn't dry by 4pm, I'll have to hope that it doesnt get too damp overnight and dries off fully by about 9am tomorrow.
Did the frustrating big-inertia job of wiping down all the surfaces in the bathroom, after the tile work done on Tuesday with no notice left a fine layer of dust on everything since I couldn't move anything out. The chemical smell is almost completely gone now after 4 full days, got the balcony door and study room window open to air this place out a bit. That should close that particular chapter of temporary unpleasantness.
Next thing is vacuuming and then... final big inertia job, mopping the floors. I hate to confess how long it's been, but in winter I really do let it go because I wear slippers indoors. The floor needs a mop to lift off the dust though. I'd like to freshen up the energy of this place before my RL cake day very soon. But I haaaate mopping.
Looks like it'll be foggy tomorrow morning so I expect it'll be a bit damp to start but it should hopefully clear up in the morning... sun's done for today by the looks of it so I dont expect much more drying this afternoon unfortunately.
marmalade is on the boil, I have a ton of washing to do, have sewing, it will be a busy day
Ow my arm. Not feeling too much from the vaccines except for the arm pain and a bit of aching. Had a mild headache last night too. Overall very mild but I'm still using it as an excuse to flop about and do nothing all day.
My package didn't arrive Friday so now I have to wait until monday. It's torture and unfair. I want my shiny new device darn it. My brain demands TREATS.
Get well soon! Better vacicne aches than catching the actual thing, at least.
I stand corrected. Headache is back.
Still going to clean the kitchen and maybe the bathroom if possible.
No more gym till after the interview Tuesday.
I would avoid smelly cleaning chemicals and bending over too much. But as a chronic migraine sufferer, productive slow pottering can be good.
Take it easy and (insert annoying aunty voice) make sure you drink enough water!
Hope it's not the dexies doing it, if the headache keeps coming back maybe talk to your GP. Or maybe it's covid? My main covid symptom was a headache, never had much of a throat problem...
May the satisfaction of getting some cleaning done lift your spirits a bit
Heat pack on the neck could help. If it’s randomly coming and going could well be muscle related.
oh no, take it easy, have cups of tea and toast
Just got back from dinner with elder bro and younger sis in Carlton. Its true. If you've had a few drinkies, then gone out in the cold, the first drink after really knocks you around.
The dinner of champions
Onion and cheese?
Sauerkraut and gherkins, with knackwurst
I'm going to Lightscape at the Botanic Gardens (https://www.lightscapeaustralia.com/city/melbourne.html) this evening.
The real question is... sativa or indica? It's a tough one.
Excuse me I believe it's supposed to be acid at the botanic gardens
Ask the toddler for a hi 5 He smacks me open palm in the face. Sounds about right.
Fucker got me square on the nose about 5 seconds after posting my last comment. I keep saying “we don’t hit” but he just laughs. I’m raising a psychopath.
KFC have killed the giant snack pack, and therefore killed any interest I have in going to kfc.
I tried the GSP and thought it was absolutely vile. But I mostly go to Red rooster these days anyways, so I can't blame you. kafers is just too expensive these days. A $5 snack sub box from rooster is where it's at!
The last KFC I had was so disgusting it's tainted any memory I had of them being worth going to. Cold damp unsalted chips, some pieces of chicken looked like they'd been cooked 4-5 times already - tiny dried out husks of food. The box was soaked through with fryer oil.
Yeah that was them a couple of years ago. It’s better now. But not by much. It’s back to like 2008 levels, which let’s be clear is still pretty bad.
Either its under salted, or it's oversalted to the point where eating some is like crunching a salt lick.
Almost impressive how KFC manages to straddle either side of the line.
Going to read Jane Goodall's book this weekend! Got absolutely nothing else on and I'm very excited to sleep.

Movie Review Rewatch. Crimson Peak.
Watch for red flags, love is actions not words.
Rudely awoken this morning by neighbour cutting tiles on their front lawn. Seriously can’t they give it a rest with the renovations on a Saturday? I really wanted a sleep in.
Still managed a gym session but I had shower scrubbing on the cards today and need to motivate myself to do it.
A small amount of gardening has been achieved, cutting back the beans and other dead summer plants and putting away the support stakes. Things look a bit tidier out there now.
I have also achieved mixing & packaging a new batch of dog food and a bit of general tidying up.
After I got the weird Manscaped popup on Domino's last night, I left them feedback when they asked. I thought this feedback would go to corporate, so I wasn't particularly nice when I left it. Apparently it went to the store manager. Oof
Its also the winter solstice (or as close as), ans as such, there's a Solstice celebration event thing going on at CERES, if anyone wants to pop in and have a peek. Doesn't seem to be all that much, though.
Would also not recommend buying food there. Had a peek at the prices, and they're corked ($9 for a small box of chips?!), even before any likely surcharge.
On the bright side, the cold weather seems to have let up some today, which is nice. We've had more than our fair share of chills for the past day or two.
Me and the gang just hanging out
House is clean. Time for dinner and some relaxing time. Tomorrow and Monday are study time for the Tuesday interview. For the IT folks, it's API's and SQL this time.
Lmao good luck! Hate db gigs.
It's a software implementation role. They reckon they don't mind if you're not great at db, but I figure it couldn't hurt to get up to speed anyway.
