Have a good one 🙂
I have a funny feeling my foreign name might be stopping me from getting interviews, so I've gone with a "Christian" replacement.
Let's see what happens.
Made some lovely banana bread yesterday to have for breakfast.
By 8 am the loaf was gone (family helped).
Do you have a recipe to share? I use this one
I used 3/4 of raw sugar because that's what I had and I airfried it because why not.
I use brown sugar instead of white and add chopped walnuts. Also I use our little benchtop oven, cause it's more efficient.
Works every time.
This coffee ain't doing it. And the tiredness will continue for a couple of days more. 7am flight to Sydney tomorrow, and another early-ish morning on Wednesday before coming home. Easter break will be for sleeping.
Baku 🤝 sleeping
I know right? its doing its best but its still a struggle.
Doesn't seem to be working for me either and the day is only half over :(
Just a heads-up - it’s a full moon tonight and everyone is nuts. Me included, lol
What’s a little psychopathy between friends?
animals outside were already nuts last night and woke me up multiple times
Autumn days are so beautiful. It's like the world is resting after all the hard work of spring and summer and getting ready for winter.
Autumn evenings, when the temperature drops are my favourite. Cozying up on the couch in a hoodie and trackies, after shorts and t-shirt during the day is so comforting.
changing out of shorts and into warmer clothes is nice, especially having a little bit of light left still.
This is Goldilocks weather for me. Best of both worlds.
I love autumn with a touch of sunshine like yesterday. So romantic.
I'd like a little more rain to make me really happy, everything is so dry and the grass is so dead.
Oh no. I have a sick child at home. I will be spending the day disinfecting the door handles and stocking up on supplies.
It’s the one time you’re happy for them to insist on staying in their room…
and the one time they will want to roam the house telling you they’re siiiick
Haha. You know it sista. It's exactly what she said when she emerged from her cave, touched the fridge, opened the cupboard, probably touched all the spoons in the drawer and made a bowl of weeties. She'll go back and hibernate soon.
Help I had interview today for job I turned down despite good effort to convince me but head overflowing with Thoughts and Realisations and felt wanted yet cautious of attention and now have other opportunity come up through contact that is also bringing up many emotions brain firing in many directions and thinking about all of life's questions at once in a calm yet monumentous manner wrote 3 pages in Word of thoughts and fears which is like whoaaa but also shiiit also had coffee at interview and then did 500 things after and have not eaten since yesterday oh fuck okay I better make some dinner and eat it asap ahhhhh.
Deep breaths. Food. Ground and center yourself. Sending virtual hugs over the aether.
Yes ma'am. I have partaken of a delicious broccoli and tuna pasta and written down many more Thoughts that have settled.
This has sort of been a therapy-breakthrough type of day, without the $200 price tag.
I've assembled enough angels to be able to call out all my career-related demons by name, and get both sides to look each other in the eye and shake hands. Sometimes they do look awfully alike... 🤔
(One of those angels is you, by the way! I won't forget your comments about being gentle with my reactions to things after what I went through with my last boss. This has given me a lot of clarity and calm)
Oh boy I'm real tired. I had some stuff in my hand to throw in the bin and I walked to the laundry, lifted the laundry basket lid and ALMOST released before realising that a moment earlier I'd thought about picking up yesterday's tshirt and putting it in the laundry basket and that's how that all happened. I think I might make the effort to seek coffee this morning.
I yawned just reading your post
I get the sense that its gonna be a really long week.
Tell me about it.
Got two weeks off after this week, the longest break from work I've had since 2016.
Which means this week is going to feel like a month. And then the fortnight after that will disappear in a flash :|
Gonna feel like 2 weeks crammed into 4 days. Not looking forward to the heat this weekend either.
Yep. This morning has been an absolute nightmare at work so it's going super slowly but also so much work to squash in to the week.
I won't respond to my ex's message, but boy do I want to. I just want to photos of our dog Ruby. My ex and I adopted her when she was 1; she'd be 10 or so now.
Sweet puppy, my beautiful bow-legged Barb. Gosh how I miss you so, my Ruby-Rhubarb.
Wtf‽ Wtf wtf wtf‽
My ex just sent me a lengthy dm on Reddit talking about our relationship and whatnot.
What the actual fuck? I was wondering why I woke up at this hour; I felt a disturbance in the force.
Now I have to deal with this?! For real? Ugh wtf
The past is past. One late night/early morning rambling dm doesn't change that. You've moved on. Maybe ignoring the message is the way to go?
Delete and move on! As you said, fuck that noise!
Is not responding an option?
Not responding is what I plan on doing, because fuck that noise. Ain't nobody got time for that!
So we keep a jug of water on the bench by the kettle and bottle maker. You're supposed to feed the bottle maker boiled water that has cooled, hence the jug. I was in the kitchen cooking lunch when I saw the cat jump on the bench and start drinking from the jug. Doing my best not to think of the greater implications of this.
I used to leave a glass of water on the coffee table for my kid when he was a toddler, until I caught the cat drinking out of it one day. Gawd knows how long that had been going on for.
Kickstarting the Tinykid's immune system. Has clearly survived so far so all good.
Presumably you don’t have a glass coffee table
🥱another week of work from office every day for me. I get free coffee and go for delicious lunch every day at least
I should have gone to bed when I was tired last night lol
Title of my autobiography.....
Partner and I had a laugh at my ex's message, discussed which Schitt's Creek gif to send as a reply. Opted for no reply, still.
It was a nonsense message, with no substance. Sent to satisfy their own selfish need for forgiveness and closure. It would have made for better content on r/unsentletters. Self-centred as always; the most hurtful thing I could do to them at this point is to not even acknowledge it.
How gross of them.
If it’s that cringe maybe submit to the museum of broken relationships? https://www.brokenships.com
I can't imagine what that is like, sounds immature. Life is messy and full of unanswered questions and unfinished relationships.
But at least better than the nasty messages or phone calls I would get from family or exes. I just ignored them.
I'm tired but I don't want to go to bed. Flashbacks to childhood lol
My lift for the GP tomorrow fell through so I canceled. I’m not making it there under my own steam.
I’m scrubbing cat bowls while puddin rests and have ordered some paper bowls for her meals while I’m drowning. A different brand of flea drops is on the way to break the cycle (Nexgard Spectra) because apparently Advocate can be less effective in the last 2 weeks.
Tomorrow I probably sort an appointment with the regular vet for this week. I’m very likely going to have to get her there myself in a taxi which is exhausting but I’ll do my best.
I haven’t forgotten the orange cat. The poor little eyes. I’ll call the council when I can but don’t know if he’ll be there. When things are less fucked I might do an occasional recce and see if I can trick him into the carrier
I'm staying up to watch Population 11 on Stan. It's a comedy but has much similarities to Lost in Larrimah. So far not bad.
Someone stole the air release valve from my new watering system and a gecko from under one of the bricks I was putting in the car to take to the tip is now in the.. car.
I want that sentence to make sense.
But who steals a $20 air release valve?
Halp.
Headache.
Taken tablets.
Not working.
Dark. Quiet. Bed.
Wheat bag, back of neck and drink lots of water.
If you can try to sleep that helps. If not, a small weak coffee helps some people.
Peanut butter toast and a cup of tea
Faceplanted with the dishes still soaking, woke up to the breakfast and meds alarm. It's ok. I already put a bucket under the dripping sink pipe. I feel like I've been put in a sack and beaten by hammers
oh great i slept wrong my left neck/shoulder is on strike
Left neck makes it sound like you are Zaphod Beeblebrox.
Shee, you guys are so unhip it’s a wonder your bums don’t fall off.
👥
Are we sure he’s not?
I think I'm (getting) sick :( a bit before I left the hotel I started getting a sore throat, and my nose has been a little blocked today
Con crud. It’s a thing.
Never heard of it
I've made the switch from Spotify Premium and have finally taken YouTube up on its offer of a free 2 month trial of YouTube Music which comes with YouTube Premium. I was already blocking YouTube ads on my PC but it's nice to not have ads on my phone too.
Not 100% sold yet on YouTube Music but I haven't really put it through its paces. I've only played some of the curated playlists. I was concerned about the lower audio quality than Spotify but experts online swear that YouTube Music do some magic to make it sound as good if not better so here I am, trying it out. Quality sounds pretty good to me so far too.
I've been using it for over 10 years. I actually much prefer the old Play Music service that Youtube Music replaced. No ads in Youtube is as important as the music service itself to me, now.
It's been my music streaming service of choice for several years after moving over from Spotify.
But I'm starting to move back to physical/owned media because of the way YouTube interprets COPA.
You can't save music to a custom playlist if it's "for children", you can't play it in the mini player.
I'm a teacher, making curated playlists with children's music is important for me, as I imagine it's equally important for parents who want to put all their skills kids favourite songs in a private family playlist to keep car rides sane. It's baffling that YouTube won't let me do this.
And because my algorithm is so fucked up if I start a "radio" from something like Aladdin or the Lion King (you know, show tunes that are appropriate for kids) it will start playing Beetlejuice right afterwards, because I listen to that album in my own free time, and the algorithm recognises them both as soundtracks, and doesn't understand how that might not be appropriate for me to have as background music in my classroom.
I've set up a children's profile to avoid this radio issue, but then it limits music that is children appropriate but not marketed as such, songs like the Carpenters "Sing" or even Beetles here comes the sun, are "not for kids" so I can't play them on a kids profile.
just tried Hello Fresh for the first time because a friend sent me free boxes.
It was....fine.
Lots of packaging for stuff I have in my kitchen anyway, and a very simple meal. Taste was quite nice.
edit: also, huge calorie load compared to my normal meals.
I’ve always avoided these sort of things because of the terrifying quantity of packaging a friend showed me was involved in one she tried. Single apples do not need a nest thing and a vac bag!!
I tried them some years ago. Meal was perfectly fine but agree there’s so much packaging, and didn’t really save any kitchen time. I think it’s main benefit would be to take away the mental load of planning meals. Personally if I need convenience I prefer to grab one of those premade meals from supermarket like a youfoodz. They aren’t brilliant but are healthier than takeaway. Gets the job done when no time to cook.
yeah, when I can't be bothered thinking about what to eat, a bag of salad and a bit of protein (whatever I feel like at the time) takes no time to cook, is cheap and healthy.
also, huge calorie load compared to my normal meals.
You mean you don't usually cook all your meals with 8 Tablespoons of olive oil?
(seriously, why do all the meal kits insist on cooking with soooo much olive oil!)
Would home delivery from a supermarket or QVM be comparable?
not sure- never done either, as I tend to trip chain and just walk through the supermarket each day as I come home from work/the beach/wherever (if I need any food)
I finally saw another car the same as my own on my way to the supermarket! As in the exact same model (50 year anniversary model which only comes in 1 colour which is unique to that model). I beeped at it. Twinsies!
Geyser Blue buddies?
That's it!
I went off to Coles because I've been sugar deprived and wanted some Malteser bunnies. Saw a young chick stacking the Easter shit and she asked me what I wanted and I told her and she picked a bag and I said "oh no not the kitkat they're shit. All I see is a sea of purple". I swear it just flew out. I thanked her and walked away then it dawned on me that perhaps she was a Cadbury rep and that's why she was wearing purple. Oops.
Anyway "WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY MALTESER BUNNIES COLES? I ASK 3 DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND THEY SENT ME TO THE PURPLE. SOMEONE WILL GET HURT".
They seem to be all sold out online. Please don't hurt me.
No way. I've put the call out to 6 of my closest nearest and dearest. Hopefully someone comes through.
Don't stand too close to me bacon. Shits about to fly.
If my garden is rockery style with large rocks, fifty spiky grass bush things and kangaroo paw, cornflowers etc really aren’t gonna mesh in there are they? But the house has formal hedges ….
I have a formal hedge that I love creating chaos behind with lots of colour and texture, different heights and intersting plants. Like the hedge is holding it in from exploding and painting the world. In other words, plant your cornflowers. All the colours you can find!
cornflowers would look lovely in your garden and not out of place, growing up I remember blue native lilies growing in paddocks
There has been a huge solar flare and there might be another aurora tonight. Best times are between 10 pm and 2 am. Hopefully the full moon won't interfere too much. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2024/mar/25/southern-lights-could-be-visible-across-southern-australia-tonight
Wonder if it will interfere with telecommunications at some higher level
This sounds amazing, and now sad I am a city dweller surrounded by light pollution. Hopefully people in darker areas can get some good photos of it.
Movie review.
The Seventh Seal with Max von Sydow. Youtube.
Set in Medieval Sweden during the Black Death a Returned Crusader, his squire and a troupe of mummers meet Death.
The story is about life, life is a mirror of our soul.
4.5 hobbits
I should add this is art, has been incredibly influential, often referenced in other movies and nearly every scene is an image we all know
About mummers ( medieval travelling actors) . If your name is King, Knight or Priest or some other title or religious title you probably had an ancestor who was a mummer who had that role in Passion Plays. I think I had an ancestor who played such a dramatic role.
I have a crazy theory.
The story of Ford vs Ferrari is exactly the same story as The Hobbit
I am gonna need an expansion of this thought. And to watch this doco
😂 . So you have Matt Damon as Bilbo. Christian Bale as Thorin. That Henry Ford guy as Gandalf. The VP snide marketing guy as Saruman. Lee Iacocca is Balin . Ferrari/Agnelli is smaug and the win is the stone. Racing is war, Ford even calls it war. The race team are the dwarves.
they even quoted Bilbo in the last scene. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPfhbEY_3Kw
Someone wandering on the train lines just outside north Melbourne....could be a few delays
I'm being good and going to bed now.
Sleep well everyone ❤️
Good night. 🩷
Anyone got a good removalist they can recommend, please? I don't need it for the whole house, just some of the heavier things. South East burbs, if that helps!
We used Andy from here to move my Mum's heavier things a few years ago. We usually move everything ourselves, but after you've hit 40, it's time for the pros to do the heavy lifting.
Thank you! We're managing most it by ourselves, but there's a few outlier heavy things that we don't want to risk any injury to move!
TIL we have a human development index for all the states and territories:
The ACT ranks #1, we're #4 and Tasmania is #8
I don't understand what this means. What's a human development index and how does it relate to those numbers?
It means the rest of us in vic are 1/2 human.
Yeah, it's an odd measurement. I mainly care because it means we're superior to tassieburgers :)
Seriously though, it's meant to measure things like poverty, literacy, unemployment, the things usually deemed essential in western societies. The worldwide chart seems to list the US quite high up though, so I'm not sure it really reflects anything besides "how well developed are rich people in western countries" vs "how undeveloped are the poorest people in the poorest countries"
TIL. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Australian_states_and_territories_by_Human_Development_Index
comparative measure of life expectancy, literacy, education, standard of living, and overall well-being of the citizens in each states
I was so tired earlier that I just realised that I called my bathroom the laundry in my little story about being tired. I guess it's kind of both.. in a way.. the laundry is literally a cupboard in the bathroom.
FIRST
(Yeah imma be that guy today)
