Creek doggo is now a slightly less hot doggo
It was calm so took the dslr into the water for a risky click:
Very nice. What are you shooting with?
Sick pic
Yeah poor bastards. A fan ain't gonna cut it tonight. Sympathies to all.
30C inside, fan on, a test of my tropicality
actually a little chilly in my motel room ☃️
AC says still 31 outside. Insane!
I just went out....it's hot as fuck...shits wild
Mine are working overtime and won't be off until Tuesday.
Such is.
My lettuces in full sun mood atm:
Had a lovely time last night because my bestie came back to Melbourne for a week and we actually caught up this time! She came over for dinner with another old friend of mine and it's been sooo long since we spoke, when we used to catch up every week. I miss my old crew 😢
My cat reckons 40 degree days are perfect for extra snuggles and naps on my lap. I'm not sure I agree.
My fluffle feels the same. I'm melting
I am drunk! Wooo!
I'm so tired. wooo 😴
After carefully mapping out plans and goals for my future and working out finances and lots of other things with those plans in mind Life has now interceded and turned everything upside down 🤣
It looks like instead of staying where I am living now and moving in probably 10-12 years I will be moving very soon - probably within the year! Which is a positive thing, but it means there are a whole lot of things I though I had a decade to think about and organise that I need to work out now, and all my plans for the garden etc. need to be completely changed. My head is spinning thinking about all of the changes and things that need to be done. I think the next year is going to be very stressful, but once it is all sorted a lot of the long term stressors will be gone - Including the neighbour with the blackberry thicket and overgrowing trees!
Sounds scary-exciting! Which is good.
I've got a migraine so I've had some icy poles and fruit delivered. I feel so ridiculous lol. Grateful that the service exists though.
PSA: do not go near Preston market. I have just returned and this had to be one of the most unpleasant experiences I have ever had there. Tomorrow will be just as bad I reckon. All the fruit & veg are looking wilted and distinctly sub-par, but the prices are still up there with colesworth. And I would not touch the chocolate with a barge pole - would probably collapse into a puddle. Avoid avoid avoid. All stocked up now for the weekend fortunately.
Woke up to the sound of some nutter with his hand on the horn speeding down my 40km/h residential street. Somebody obviously got up on the wrong side of the bed and is dragging the rest of us down with them! 😤
And I went shopping and someone was coming to a speed hump, that has markings but wasn’t a crossing and walked right in front of my car and then flipped me off as if I was the one in the wrong.
20 meters on either side of the speed hump were pedestrian crossings.
I swear the heat makes people do funny and stupid things.
Two days ago in Kensington, just picked up my wife. Streets were narrow, parked cars on left, and a bit of space on the right to pass. Stopped in the middle of the road so an oncoming guy in a white Ford Territory could pass on my right.
"Fucking idiot"
Just waiting at the local barbers and saw one dude sit down and show the hairdresser a photo of what he wants, but the photo was of a model with way more hair than he has lol
He was genuine too. This please. Thank you.
Omg the ABC wrote an article about a food thing from where I grew up! https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-03-09/the-florrie-horsham-steak-based-dish-history/103541146
I spent years trying to find them around Melbourne but never did. I even asked on the alien site, but not many people even knew what it was.
I will fight for the Florrie though. When made right, it's absolutely fantastic and every time I stay in Horsham I still get a couple
They're not particularly difficult to make:
Back in the early 2000s, I was working in Heidelberg Heights industrial area. All the lunch caffs had a pan fried egg & breadcrumbed ham & cheese chunk in a sammo on the menu - no beef in it though. Just called a fried ham/cheese sammo not a florrie. Same idea though. Might be worth checking to see if they still do them.
The corellas are back. How do they know it’s Saturday?
Currently holding at 26° inside without turning a/c on. I really should whack it on to get ahead of it.
I had a chat with an old aircon mechanic who was working for Airmaster at the time who basically said yeah if you crank it on in the morning, it won’t have to work nearly as hard throughout the day.
29 degrees inside, and that's with six fans all blasting and blocked out windows. Goddamnit, why the hell aren't aircons a legal requirement in all properties?
I've done nothing "productive" today and I look forward to the same tomorrow.
Me too. Is good
I'm just doing a little.
There's an aircon in the lounge room but she'd rather be a puddle on the bed.
A ripe nashi is a joy indeed
Very underrated fruit. I love how crispy they are. So refreshing straight from the fridge in a days like today.
I love that I have to trick my cat with treats so I can have space on my own bed to lie down. Lucky she's adorable.
I think you'll find it's HER bed. That's the mistake you are making there
Just trying that Billson's Cake drink, kinda tastes like a vanilla choc Chuppa Chup
Sounds like the sort of drink you want exactly one of, do not purchase multipack.
Yep I don't think I'd want to drink any more than 2 in a sitting
The Fruit Tangle cordial is incredible
Too full on pub fish and chips
Quick shoutout to all the parents and kids at the beach who brought boogie boards but there were no waves.
It's devastating. I've been there and it hurts bobbing around on some polypropylene for no reason, It may seem like your darkest hour but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
which brings us to the rave.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdFFQe5FNsU
edit: and look out.. on the BoM...
Oppressive night.
Definitely heating up. I've just switched the aircon from eco mode to "I don't care how much power you guzzle just keep me cool" mode.
I'm considering keeping it on all night. I feel bad but my house has no insulation.
The one in my bedroom will definitely be on all night. I can't sleep when it is hot and if I don't get enough sleep it leads to a very grumpy Raven.
God, we've just locked down the flat to keep out the heat, only now a paper wasp has got in. No fucking clue how it got in, but it's there.
Suggestions for wasp murder? I do not trust them with being in a room with my senior cat.
Paper wasps are friends :(
I agree up to the point that my cat will try to eat it, and at her age it would likely be fatal. Paper wasps belong outside, and there's zero chance the poor thing will get to go outside until Monday night.
Better a quick death than being hunted by a cat
Housework should be suspended when things are shitty. But I've washed a load of laundry, cleaned a litterbox, emptied the bins and recycling, cleared a bench and wiped it down. The dishes may need to be put in to soak.
There's an instant pot I want to lend to a friend and I've put it in its box but can't find the manual...
Ha I lost mine almost immediately but they are all online https://instantbrands.com.au/pages/product-manuals
It's baffling. There's only a space of a few metres it ever occupied but the booklet has just walked off
Cheers, if I can't find it they can download
Welp. I spent money and bought things I'm going to have to keep organised. But they're useful (outside of the art stuff which was self indulgent) and I'm hoping to tidy up a bit and declutter before they arrive.
Edit: Feeling a bit guilty because the girl might have to go to the specialist but everything was under $100. Hopefully at least one of those things means I stop tripping over shit in the bathroom or protect bedding/clothing, and I bought a cheap bowl and platter so the wildlife water stays put
Those sound like items that have good quality of life value. No need to feel guilty.
I tend not to spend much on myself these days, it feels unnecessary until something is a big quality of life issue
The post purchase remorse always goes hard. When I bought a monitor I was feeling so guilty and regretful about it until it arrived. Even after it arrived I still felt like I shouldn't have bought it for another week.
They sound like fine purchases though, so fwiw you should try and not feel too guilty about it. There's many worse things you could've spent that money on
True, I could have spent it at the pokies
‘tis ferroro roche hazelnut egg season
Malteser bunnies season.
I've vacuumed half the house, and that might be enough manual labour for today. I just won't look at the other half.
1 - I’ll be joining you
Whoa. 8/10...I must've been bored and scrolling this week!
7/10, most were lucky guesses 👀
7/10, 3 were lucky guesses. I know nothing about sport
Even more insane is using the tiny ones to do a bench top. Hello cleaning nightmare!
Yes. I hate grout so much
If I ever build /reno a bathroom, I’m putting in walls that look like massive tiles. Seen them on fb - no grout, looks like marble.
salad for dinner has been made, potat, chicken, celery and home made mayo/yoghurt, curry /mango chutney dressing
Commencing nap #1 of the day 😴
Finally got the motivation to tackle That Cupboard in the kitchen (you all know the one). Better half of two bin bags and a good half of the yellow bin later, plus a few things for the op shop pile and a few things I need to sort/see if they can be repaired etc.
Now time for a well earned drinkie and later, watch more of Mary and George.
Rate the dunny: round 2
After round 1 I started thinking about other crap (ha!) dunnies I've been to, and remembered these ones in Colac. Not sure whether they were taken before people invented privacy, or they were relocated from Pentridge Prison when it closed down or what
They look clean ✔️ there's a door ✔️and there's an intact toilet seat ✔️ 5/5 for a public loo.
I would drop a deuce without issue. Solid 8
I'd definitely shit there, 4.5/5. Doors could be longer but it's enough for a quick trip.
I have a personal policy that any bathroom with stall doors I can just... See over, without even trying, get an automatic disqualification
Anybody have or used a steam mop before? Just for general purpose floor cleaning ? I use an old school mop and commercial grade bucket on wheels which works fantastic but can be unwieldy for some.
Yeah I have one. They're a bit bulky but do a good job. I think the mops with a spray bottle and washable pads work better than a standard mob and bucket.
Thanks chief. Pull up alright this morning? Stay hydrated today.
a spray bottle and washable pads work better than a standard mob
Is that the Enjo brand? We're doing a big house clean today before we go on hols next week. I'm on floor tiles duty and that's what I'll be using. I've been putting it off for weeks but has to be done today.
I have a steam mop. I like that you dont have a separate bucket to move, but I don't feel it does a very thorough job of cleaning (at least on vinyl, I suspect tiles might clean better) so I tend to use it for day to day cleaning but also do a more thorough scrub periodically.
I actually bought the mop more for the other steam clean attachements because it also works as a hand-held cleaner that is really good for things like inside the microwave. It also did a great job cleaning areas like inside the rail on the shower door that you can't really get into easily otherwise.
I’d quite like a nap, but I cannot. Dad’s due here to power wash the bird cage
Building swamp cooler and putting all the pillows etc outside to cook dust mites. Life is thrilling. Argument about how much ice is necessary for two days. I’m gonna be right about that 😝
Can’t wait for my coffee to be ready. So relaxing to sip it slowly, especially while I’m hiding inside.
Definitely gotten hot outside.
Treated myself to some bottles of half price coke and some chippies.
Trying to stay as cool as I can, plenty of cold water in the fridge and ice cubes and ice packs if I need today.
Hope everyone else is managing to stay cool or enjoying the warmth.
Oh no not the Moomba parade 😔 That and the birdman rally are the only decent things about Moomba.
moomba parade was started to stop people going to labour union marches
Wow. That changes the whole vibe. Thanks for the headsup!
Ha, that's the most humany shit I've ever heard. "Sir! The people are revolting over shit conditions and lackluster wages!"
"What the fuck is wrong with these greedy, self absorbed, entitled savages??? Only I deserve to be making money around here. I know! Have some people walk around in costumes! That'll distract cheer everyone up!"
"Holy shit it worked! You're getting a double bonus this year you legend!"
My daughter of was in the parade a few years back, part of her dance school.
It was fun but like the Royal Melbourne Show, massive money out and rip-off
Ran a risky play and popped the oven on for thirty mins to crisp up some pre-parboiled vege to have for the next few days, doubled down and cooked some snags....I think it worked. Now have yummy salad options.
Back in Melbs from Tassie and holy crap it’s still so hot. Now for the impossible task of cooling my house that’s been locked up for 3 days.
Excellent weather for sheets and towels wash day. Have even hung out the doona for a thorough uv powered airing out.
Thanks for reminding me!
I was going to wash some pillows but ended up cleaning out That Cupboard instead.
Could probably do it tomorrow.
I decided to sell my weights set as, despite best intentions, I have really not been using it. One last workout getting everything to the door for pickup. Miss Meow is going to miss the bench, she enjoyed sitting on it.
Edit: weight set is now out of the house. No idea how the guy who bought it is planning on getting it into his car. Mr Woof is keeping an eye on him while he tries various tetris combinations.
Normally I penny pinch to a ludicrous level (because I like having extra money for emergencies) but there's a $25 magnetic laundry shelf thing at Kmart that might keep things a bit tidier. It also holds a roll of paper towel but with the placement it could hold a hand towel.
I'm also wanting various art supplies. Perhaps a few more pairs of period jocks. Why does everything cost so much.
Be careful with magnetic shelves, they can be addictive. I'm up to four in the kitchen and one in my locker at work. If you have the right spot for them they can be very useful.
Yeah, the spot I have in mind is the side of my washing machine which is right next to the bathroom sink. So I'm thinking the hand towel, the hand soap refill bottle and a few of the smaller laundry things.
My sister has a few spread over her laundry and kitchen, very handy, 10/10 recommend
If I wasn't so tight fisted I would buy a few. I want to stop piling things on surfaces or leaving things on the floor.
is it hot cross buns if it's straight from the fridge?

Mulwala Water Ski Club has generously decided to fund my entire weekend and even added in a little extra spending money. Now back to hide in my air-conditioned motel room.
you'll be blacklisted up there 😐
I’m there over Easter.! Coincidence or Fate…..?
That singular bag of ice is already deceased. ITUS
Ps I smell terrible
Where is the 50km/hr winds bom? I cancelled plans for that 🤬
Doing a sad song thingy on YouTube
Charles Bradley (RIP) changes is so, so good.
Last night's closing song was Jeff Healey Band's While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
O shit I forgot to pull my plants in. The water platter had also dried up and fallen down again already.
Trying a portrait in charcoal and getting the physical urge to beat my head into the wall. It looks ok but I'm having trouble controlling the charcoal to put marks where my eyes want them. I try instinctively to shade with the side of the point but get it marking a centimeter lower because I'm holding it at the wrong angle. This would be easier if I had the paper vertical at the right height.
Holding it upright in the air with my other hand has given a better angle to control where it goes. But I've noticed myself holding the pencil sideways because then there's not much room to hold it vertically. Sitting/crouching on the bed isn't the best position to be working in. I have that portable easel but I'd have to put things behind the sketchbook to bring it flush with the ledge to avoid catching my hand, and it's still too low so the end of the pencil would hit a surface or a knee.
My eyes can see the shapes and exactly where everything goes but. My. Fucking. Hands.
If I had a proper easel it would be easier. But I'd need an adjustable gaming chair rather than standing and even then would get exhausted sitting for too long and moving the weight of my own arms. Plus I'm going to be tripping over all of it in my flat.
Edit: I think I'm going to sand the nib into a flatter shape, less curved. And put a few sketchbooks behind the current one. Then idk put it on top of a box of the right height. I have a desk but that's being used
Would putting one of those thick framed canvases on the easel and taping paper to that instead of using a book work? Or maybe run a string through the books binding to hang it over the top? You can pick those up cheap at most op shops (either cheap generic prints or random people's art attempts).
I never really liked working with charcoal, too messy and smudgy. But my artistic talents definitely do not lie in the realm of drawing.
Yeah, that's a good idea. I was looking for the masking tape last night but couldn't find it
Do you think frozen raspberries in banana bread would taste ok because I think it would?
I think bananas are evil incarnate, but frozen raspberry would work well in any similar bake if you account for defrost liquid.
I don't like bananas either but in banana bread and cake they are passable. I thought of raspberries in there because I thought they would go well with the banana.
I think you’re on to something there. Sounds delicious
I often put frozen berries in mine. Diced over ripe pear works too.
Mango works really well!
I think it would be delish.
Me too.
American Fiction is frigging hilarious. I haven't laughed out loud so many times watching a movie in ages.
Winning on Marketplace today - a few big things out of my house and one more collection arranged for tomorrow. It's such a hassle that when you decide you don't want something anymore it doesn't just instantly vanish, you have to actively do work to get rid of it! At least this lot got some interest, a few other things I couldn't give away and had to put out for hard rubbish (although most of it was taken at that point).
T-minus 6 days until I age up once more. Boring age, the only thing I'll do is enrol to vote (which I could do now anyway if I wanted to), but it does mean I'm almost at less than a year until I become an adult which is really terrifying, although I guess somewhat good
I've spent so fucking long just trying to figure out how to make it to tomorrow that trying to make actual plans on how I'm meant to live, and what I'm meant to do with my life is scary and foreign and makes no sense. I did receive permission to stay at my current place past 18 (they only do that on a case by case basis - the standard is you get kicked out the day before you turn 18). But that's not an indefinite offer. I'll get at most a year before they really will just boot me out the door
I actually do have a rough idea of what I want to do by the end of my life, but it's the ~8 years between moving out and being able to begin my plans I don't know what to do with. I've got some things happening work wise, but nothing consistent and reliable so I guess that's the first thing I need to tackle.
I did find out that there are actually options for when I move out/get kicked out, though. There's various community housing organisations focussed specifically on people exiting care which I can use. I'm also on the NDIS so that can help with a limited number of things too. My old plan was that I was going to save up enough money to buy a car, and then I was just going to live in that because I genuinely thought I was just going to be homeless.
And to be depressingly honest, although I've been thinking about this since I entered care when I was 11, I didn't really think I was going to be alive by my 18th birthday for most of those years. It's only really after moving into lead tenant I've started to think that life isn't so bad, and maybe I can do it every day for the next 60 years
You’re going to be a wonderful man, Baku
This sounds like you've given this a LOT of thought. Saving up is never a bad thing as it gives you more options, and a buffer against disaster - you've already seen a lot of us here whinging about sudden large expenses. The world is opening up to you in many ways, and you've got a lot of power over how life is going to be. I am confident that you'll make a success of the busyness of living.
Not a lot of useful problem solving though, mainly unproductive, stressful, panic attack inducing thoughts
Having power about how my life will be is also really stressful. I've got a couple of decisions to make that'll affect the next decade of my life at least, and I'm not a big fan of this whole "decisions you make now affect the entire rest of your life" thing
Your birthday is on the 15-Mar? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ides_of_March You got a gaming PC?
It is indeed, and I do
