  • The mods of .ml are pro China/Russia authoritarianists, and will ban you for posting comments that disagree with them. I've received a ban for discussing my experiences teaching Taiwanese and Chinese students, because I described the way the Chinese students reacted in the face of evidence that Taiwan is a self-governing sovereign state as "brainwashed."

I was banned under rule 1, which is listed as being polite and civil. Trust me when I say I have said far more less polite and civil things directly to mods, so it's concerning that politely expressing real lived experiences that contradicts their opinions on Chinese authoritarianism is what counts as being rude and uncivil around those parts.

I haven't blocked them. Many of those communities include the founders/creators of Lemmy, so to block the community feels disjointed from the app, to me. But I think twice about wasting my time on individual conversations in or from people in .ml.

  • This thread is discussing Trump's comments that joining the States would result in better health care for Canadians. Posting in a thread discussing this topic with a comment that does nothing but talk about the perceived failings of the Canadian health care system is implying that the American system is better because of the context in which the statements were made.

If you are "not talking about the US at all," then what are you talking about? That's the conversation: Canadian vs US health care.

  • Tired of this lie, tbh.

The waits are probably, on average, a little longer, sure. The "someone is waiting an absurd amount of time with an obvious visible problem and they've died while waiting" is pure privatization propaganda fueled by people going to the hospital for things like prescription refills and being shocked when they're pushed to the bottom of the list over and over again while people come in with genuine, time sensitive problems.

  • Last time I checked, that's just called polyamory. The thing where they don't know is called cheating. We don't need a qualifier pushing a conservative narrative of what love is.

  • He stumbled across it once and everyone reacted positively. He has now realized it illicits a positive responsevand uses it every time he opens his mouth, with no understanding of what it means.

There's a very on-the-nose comparison here to severe mental disabilities, but that feels incredibly rude to people with genuine needs.

  • Eh, I suspect most of those Russia/China fascism lovers posing as "leftists" are mid-30s white dudes, and as a mid 30s white dude, my grandmother was alive during WWII.

The options remain the same, though.

  • Great position to take as someone who isn't in the targeted minority. Immigrants and transexuals don't have the option of just waiting it out. And we shouldn't sit by and watch them suffer.

Seriously, read a Holocaust memoir or something. "Night" is quite good (just read it with my grade 11s), and really puts the "it won't be that bad" rhetoric into perpsective.

  • Trump's rhetoric echoed Hitler in 2015. Sit down and actually read Mein Kampf. They're the same person.

Don't get me wrong I am glad to see that the mainstream world is catching up, but man, it's frustrating to see 9 year old revelations as "news".

  • This is like... A very unfortunately timed still frame of him moving his arm for some non-seig heil reason, right?

    ...right?

Don't get me wrong, these alt-right fascists are fro thing frothing at the mouths over the idea of being the nazi's of the 21st century and "getting it right this time," but there's no way they're going mask off this quickly.

    ...right?

  • I'd be pretty okay with a Conservative minority. In fact, it might be ideal. It'd give Poilievre the time to soak the blame without the power necessary to work towards dismantling freedom of speech.

I'm sure the environment would still suffer as a result, but that'd probably happen in any size of Liberal or Conservative government.

  • While that's true, where are all of Poilievre's statements in the Trump anexation comments? I've seen a ton of responses from a ton of politicians but none from him?

Genuine question, though. I'm not on a lot of social media, and of course my interests have a bias, but I still find it strange that I've seen clear statements from so many politicians across the spectrum and none worth putting on the front page from Polievere? Did the CPC PR team just suddenly take a break when this happened? Where's all the fervent, "Canada first" rhetoric when Trump is making claims on Canadian soil?
