  • When you lose "what you can offer" and they still stick by you. Which you won't know until it happens so it's pretty much a crapshoot. Listen to your heart but your cold hard unforgiving brain should feature in the conversation as well.

  • I heard piefed was good too. Doesn't work with Connect though and I'm not changing apps again after RiF. Also the other option I heard for .ee refugees was uhhhhh I think feddit.uk? Might be worth looking into. Still, .ee will forever reign supreme. So long as you avoid the tankie triad you should be good

  • I can sympathize, I was a nightmare for my parents growing up not being able to sleep. Though I usually was caught reading or playing video games instead. ADHD can be very hard to deal with and I wish you the best of luck

  • It's up to you how you raise your kid. Does he have any special needs or other extenuating circumstances? If not, personally I would try not to make it a habit for him. Bring him back to his bed when this happens and stay up with him until he falls asleep again so he can be more comfortable in his own bed. That can be exhausting but I think it would be good for both of you if your son had some good independence skills.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

In these final 3 days of lemm.ee's existence, what would you like your final words on your account to be?

  • Not a movie but rather a season, Your Lie in April. It's around a 7 hour series so sorta super deluxe extended edition movie adjacent if you're up for that. Fireflies and Silent Voice have already been mentioned, this is the honorary third place in my opinion.

  • The tankies are far and away the largest problem. It's the number one reason why lemmy hasn't grown. Even when I signed up years ago from the reddit exodus every post I saw was heavily cautioned with "it's filled with tankies". And now every mention of it is being scrubbed for that reason. The second problem is the smaller size but see reason 1 for that.

Third problem is the sign up process being so excruciating. I understand it's to prevent bots but for every 2 bots it's preventing it's probably also preventing 1 actual user from signing up. I love this place despite the small size, because I can just sequester off all the tankies entirely on Connect, but if the creators don't realize they're actively standing in the way of growth by the actions they're taking and step away from all their moderation actions to focus on administration and development instead the outlook doesn't look too great.

  • Was convinced into one by (what seemed like at the time) a fairly cool lady who was married, husband had his own couple girlfriends, was an open marriage all above board, I thought I'd broaden my horizons and see how it went. She had no one outside the marriage and it quickly became VERY apparent why, hoo boy was that woman a horrible horrible person when she wasn't pretending to be likeable. Never gonna mess around with that again, monogamy or nothing for me.

  • How do you reconcile their views on deportation, human trafficking, LGBT stuff, etc etc etc etc etc with you finding them to be a "wonderful" person? Personally anyone who believes in what Trump is doing is by definition a monster and any niceties they may show other people is either psychopathy or because you happen to be the right color. It's like the standard bad date test; if they're a shitheel to their server, they'll eventually be a shitheel to you too.

  • I'll chime in myself here. Am an atheist, have dated hard core Christian women, Wiccans, and atheists. I've found that religion didn't actively impact the relationship until it spilled over into daily life that my partner required I take part in. I actually really enjoyed religious history conversations with my more moderate partners. It started to break down when it was "shut up no debate this is how it is" and those are the relationships that ended badly.

  • Am also atheist, I have an extreme...distaste for religion in general. There are some that I find easier to mesh with, very dependent on the person in particular. But I have some long married friends with vastly different religious views and they work out somehow.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Would you become romantically involved with someone with vastly different religious views?
