  • A bike is faster in my city if you are decently fast, but a bus or trolley is faster than cars during rush hours, because we have public transit lanes, so while everyone in their tin cans is stressed yelling at the dumbass who just cut them off im breezing past, listening to a podcast, meditating or catching a quick ten minute nap before work.

  • Okay, thanks for clearing this up. Chromebooks have turned me off since their inception, I just assumed since they are made by regular laptop companies that they are plain old low-spec machines running a lightweight OS with minimal functionality.

  • The second one, I am not sure about colour coding like that, just because I have not tried, the trees you will have, however, including sub-trees. I would bet you can get the colour coding too.

First one, no idea how you would go about that, I don’t think it’s possible, but I don’t have the top tab bar, I disabled it since i use the TST sidebar. I remember there was a tab group plugin but it placed the tabs in separate menu items with the menu in the extension area.

  • If you raised the issue, hopefully they considered it, but they can’t see it on a routine visit. The two main ways we check for it would be:

    • an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT), where you get serial blood sugar measurements for two hours - before and after drinking a specific amount of glucose on an empty stomach in the morning.
    • A blood test called HbA1c which correlates to your average blood sugar over the last 3 months.
  • I wonder, what was your average customers/h assuming non-stop traffic? I don't remember how fast it went, I was doing shelves and warehouse, subbed in register only a few times when work was basically done in the evening.

Gotta say tho, can't imagine why someone would go cashier in a supper market, it is the most brutal place for sure. Working shelves and warehouse was pretty chill all things considered, at least we could go pee and have smoke breaks, as well as eat on our own schedule.

  • It could be, for sure, but nevertheless should be checked out. The meme specifically says 4AM, if you wake up dry in rhe morning its less worrisome, waking up at night to drink is more concerning.

  • I dunno about this one, like what kind of a discount would apply here? How big?

I think in a vacuum a self checkout saves a buck or two per purchase for the store. But that is in a vacuum, you still have a cashier assisting the checkout, maintenance for scanners, probably security watching the scanners etc. I don’t doubt it saves cash, but like probably cents per purchase.

  • I did my personal yearly “year of the linux distro” litmus test with Nobara and I had many problems tbh, two of the most notable ones were fullscreen video stuttering and shader cache stutters.

So I was like, we are getting close, but I am not sold.

Then I decided to try arch and shit just works tbh, basically no issues with stuff I play usually, the biggest struggle was getting Battle.net up and all it took was changing proton version on steam to get it installing.

  • Arch is fairly easy, the difficulty is a bit of a meme:

    • Wiki is huge, read it before you do things.
    • As others said, pacman and AUR are dummy easy to work with, you generally don’t need to worry about dependencies etc, pacman and AUR helpers (like YaY) will install everything for you.
    • AUR is massive but understand that it is maintained by users.
    • The part that is hard is installing arch manually, archinstall mitigates this, you don’t learn too much by doing it manually, except how to partition disks through CLI and mount them (which, granted can be useful), also chroot is a good thing to know how to do if you brick something.
    • A clean arch install will give you a TTY environment, if you depend on wifi, make sure the install sets up networking before you reboot (archinstall has a separate option for this). Archinstall does give you options to install a WM / DE.
    • I recommend checking out Hyprdots by prasanthrangan for a very comfy Hyprland environment, but you could of course just set up something you are more comfortable with.
    • Nvidia drivers are not too hard to set up, the above dotfiles do it for you on a clean, minimal install. But if you want to do your own thing just follow the wiki on NVIDIA, you will need to be able to string together a few concepts independently by following the wiki links (to remove the KMS hook and add nvidia modesettings.
