  • Its easier to spot here

It's super easy to spot on reddit. Even easier than that?

There clearly aren't that many bots (of all kinds, incl. humanoid) in the Lemmyverse (yet), so I guess they stand out more, but beyond that?

    its easier to moderate

    Hm. How so?

I learned early that admins (and possibly also mods) have more insight into user behavior, is that what you mean?

Beyond that the mod/admin structure is pretty much the same as on, say, reddit.

  • Yes it takes very little searching to find this shit on reddit.

But - and I'll probably get tons of downvotes, but still: the Fediverse is not safe from this.

edit: considering our APIs are free & open it could even be easier, esp. if you don't want to leave a money trail

edit2: I definitely don't mean to diss the Fediverse in any way! It stands sky high against walled-in platforms. Just stay vigilant and real. This is not paradise.

  • Sorry for the downvotes, OP, but in good old reddit tradition this community is for US politics.

I'm sure you can find better communities for this.

  • "Scamming compound" is not a word I wanted to add to my dictionary. Look at this shit:

That's methodical, structured, newly built, and completely fenced in. It couldn't have happened without the government at least looking the other way.

  • France created their own open source version of google docs as well.

"France" as in the government? Or do you mean the Framasoft association?

  • This is absolutely correct.

I remember when they changed their messaging and openly admitted that their phone is not and can never be 100% "fair", but that they're trying their best. They were quite open about it. Even so, the factual fairness I read then read better than what you present now.

To be fair (haha, pun intended) their phones are also about modularity.

So where does the money go?

Almost* every alternative hardware company asks much more for a (hardware wise comparable) product for a whole slew of reasons; "Fairness" rarely plays into it.

In other words, even if the Fairphone wouldn't claim to be fair, it would cost just as much.

And, to be fair again, the Fairphone is still cheaper than some of its competitors.

except Pine64 it seems. (also somewhat modular btw)

  • Thanks for the breakdown.

One of these days I hope those "peaceful settlers" will get just as much media attention as the IAF (the D really doesn't seem appropriate).

  • I'm sure Israel losing the USA's support (military, financial, political) generally, and Trump's uncritical support specifically, would end "The Middle East Conflict" pretty quickly. Which is basically what most Arab countries in the region have been saying for decades. There really is no dilemma in wanting your government to collapse - and maybe their support of Israel with it.

    Or maybe I misunderstood you.

  • Check the forums.

FWIW, Signal works perfectly, WA too.

  • There are a few happy US users on the forums. Maybe check out what they have to say.

I'm sure the company is perfectly happy with having these users. AFAIR the reason they don't sell licenses outside EU is that it would add hassle, mostly sales legalities.

I didn't know you cannot buy the C2 in the USA, but I would recommend an Xperia X10 II or X10 III anyhow.

  • I understand. But I think it's right that they concentrate on a few devices. There's also something about SONY openly providing firmware and encouraging unlocking, something "Open Devices" iirc.

    Ah, the N900...

  • True. Yeah, I was wondering how that plays out if you simply reply "There are none."

  • Like two parents having a talk about their toddler during a long car journey:

    • Does he still want that icecream?
    • Nah, he's watching Cocomelon now.
  • I distinctly remember an FF addon that rewrites URLs on the fly (via regular expressions iirc). I was thinking about it just the other day, because I want the same thing. For the life of me I can't remember its name anymore.

  • What about LineageOS?

My guess is the problematic parts here aren't open source so they should never show up in Lineage OS?

  • This is my fourth comment shilling SFOS here, but it just might be what you're looking for. It is my daily driver.
