  • No need to wait for Linux to listen to internet radio. With individual song metadata. Soma.fm. Bagel Radio for guitary stuff. 9128.live for amazing Ambient mixes.

There's also NTS.live, Lyl Radio, Dublab etc... but they don't always show per-track metadata.

Or right here on Fediverse. Just search for Music communities. I already found a few new artists here.

  • Another vote for internet radio. Adding Bagel Radio for guitary stuff. Oh and 9128.live for amazing Ambient mixes.

  • One of the problems with Linux today on laptops is that the CPU will run in an unoptimized manner

Is this actually still true? I thought automatic scaling happens mostly on firmware level these days.

  • Updating databases to support anything other than that which would run on a 1970s mainframe costs the sort of money that eats into C-level’s yacht funds, so it won’t happen.

Even so, multiple strategies to include unicode characters in ASCII exist. sigh

  • I do not agree with the notion of "wise elders". I don't want to dismiss the wisdom that comes with experience and time, but there's too many other factors to disrupt it.

Alter schützt vor Torheit nicht or, in Billy Shakespeare's words: "There's No Fool Like an Old Fool"

  • Viru Valge!

    Mutta juu, hulluja ne on.

    Säilyttäkää sen sijaan risteyly-"kulttuuria"!

  • Thank you for your patience.

    Everything is public, including votes.

I have yet to figure out how that works. Does Lemmy offer a way to look at these things? Like who voted?

Instance admins can notice if a lot of signups happen from a specific ip, email pattern or region.

The same goes for, say, reddit admins.

  • Mutta milloin varakkaat muuttavat joukolla Suomeen?

  • if you buy a regular phone and donate €5, you will have done more

I question if donations work that way. And you still bought one more device that's made on the backs of disenfranchised people. (Again, not saying that a Fairphone eliminates that 100%, but a little)

In the end you are annoyed at the brand name plus the higher price evoking larger expectations in some of your friends. Join the club. But that's a far cry from your original statement. Glad we could clear that up.

  • Just to be clear: this is about the USA.

Austin, Texas–based influencer and entrepreneur shares of students at her dozen or so K-12 schools, a ten-year-old boasts that he is a successful Airbnb manager, while another constructs a miniature Cybertruck.

  • I know a lot of people who buy a fairphone

A lot? Lucky you. I know one.

they want to save the planet, and that’s really not what this phone is doing

It's not an on/off either/or thing; every little bit helps.

This is exactly it. Running a tiny company with nothing in-house making a custom phone with custom hardware is expensive.

Are you expecting a Fairphone to be only as much more expensive as the extra ("fair") wages paid would cost? But your own quote above proves why that cannot be.

The rest of your comment is much the same; you seem to get too hung up on comparing prices to mainstream devices/parts. If it's too expensive for you, don't buy it. You can also do your part in saving the planet by using an older phone for longer with, say, Lineage OS or Sailfish OS.

  • Its easier to spot here

It's super easy to spot on reddit. Even easier than that?

There clearly aren't that many bots (of all kinds, incl. humanoid) in the Lemmyverse (yet), so I guess they stand out more, but beyond that?

    its easier to moderate

    Hm. How so?

I learned early that admins (and possibly also mods) have more insight into user behavior, is that what you mean?

Beyond that the mod/admin structure is pretty much the same as on, say, reddit.

  • Yes it takes very little searching to find this shit on reddit.

But - and I'll probably get tons of downvotes, but still: the Fediverse is not safe from this.

edit: considering our APIs are free & open it could even be easier, esp. if you don't want to leave a money trail

edit2: I definitely don't mean to diss the Fediverse in any way! It stands sky high against walled-in platforms. Just stay vigilant and real. This is not paradise.

  • Sorry for the downvotes, OP, but in good old reddit tradition this community is for US politics.

I'm sure you can find better communities for this.

  • "Scamming compound" is not a word I wanted to add to my dictionary. Look at this shit:

That's methodical, structured, newly built, and completely fenced in. It couldn't have happened without the government at least looking the other way.
