currently watching a mate midlife crisis himself into a destroyed marriage and redpilled victim spiral that will eventually make him a pathetic, sad old man. Sadly, his reaction to some of the best friends he doesn't realise he has trying to pull him out of it means that sympathy is running thinner and thinner on the ground. It sucks.
Assuming youve already had a really blunt conversation about it? Dont think there is any room for subtlety in a situation like this.
Mrs B is lucky. Shes been prewarned of my mid life crisis ambitions. She'll just come home to find a WRX parked in the driveway one day.
Ah man, sounds like the train has reached too much velocity to change directions. That sucks to watch. You think you know someone, and then...
One of the kittens squeeks at me.
MY DAY IS MADE!!!
1 degree tonight however is not so fun :(
Adoption pending…?
If I buy a house this year, I'll take all of them tbh. But there's still a bit of credit history to clean up.
Oooh... The tingly throat of dooom...please just be the cold weather. Scotch and honey and bed
Have a gargle of Listerine. Sometimes it works if you get it early enough. Sometimes it doesn't.
since I've been fairly negative heres a positive thing: Really impressed with Vodafone so far. Seems to work better along the dandenong corridor than telstra ever did.
-1.2, feels like -3.4
I should move to Ballarat, it's 2.2 degrees there!
This sudden cold is a bit of a shock to the system. I've turned on the old panel heater for a bit to give the reverse cycle a hand. The temperature inside has now reached double digits.
It might be a cold year this year.
Credit card number got stolen over the weekend. CBA flagged a large purchase in the USA.
New cards are on the way, time to update the automatic payments again.
Pain.
any idea how it happened?
Not yet. I haven't heard of any breaches recently. Will check with CBA once the new card is sorted.
I did make some online purchase recently, but from places I bought before.
Already down to 8C outside. Gonna be a very chilly night hope everyone is staying cozy.
Snug as a bug in a rug.
yup, i have been very snug
but ted woke me up, he's hungry since bill stole all his food yesterday
I am going to have to do something about that
Got in bed early, wearing my thermals to sleep and maintained warmth with a hot mug of chamomile tea. I should be able to stay warm enough.
Getting up tomorrow morning will be the challenge. There's not much space in this current room to place my heater, which I normally had timed to turn on at 6:30am in the depths of winter to help reduce the inertia. We'll see.
I’m about to be outside for awhile.
I’ll come back as a snowman.
I've just come back from walking Mr Woof. It wasn't too bad once I got moving, but I did have on a jumper, jacket, fur-lined fingerless gloves and my finest peruvian alpaca scarf and beanie.
the longer I work at this place the more convinced I become that half of the office should be fired for gross incompetence.
I'm nearly two months into my new role and have found zero kindred spirits.
People are nice, and good at their jobs (I guess) but just boring and too serious.
2 of 3 isnt bad! Most of mine are assholes with a few exceptions, but they are all waiting for someone else to do their jobs for them. And there is no consequence for fucking around and doing no work.
hard to imagine what this place would be like if everyone gave a shit rather than just a handful of people actually trying.
Hard rubbish bonus: as well as the corflute there was a large carpet mat in good condition. It should work well for the shoe area I'm planning in the garage.
A lot of people sick from work, it's that time of the year again.
I'm fighting something off. The usual winter head cold has arrived a month or so early it seems.
I have just discovered Don McMillan's stand up. It is gold. Engineer jokes by the bucketful.
Example : ebay - the internet = garage sale.
Example : a physicist, a biologist and a chemist go to spend a day at the beach. The biologist goes out snorkelling, gets entranced by the underwater plant and animal biota, forgets to check his air flow and drowns. The physicist sees that the biologist has not returned and goes out to check his last known location. He gets entranced by the pressure gradients, wave effects etc., forgets to check his air flow and drowns. The chemist looks around, can't see either of them, gets out his notebook and writes "biologists and physicists are both soluble in water".
Creative use of venn diagrams is a bonus. Love the guy.
sniffle sneezy cold is still colding
Oh no. Get well soon ☕️ 💐
thank you 🤧😘🤧
Just listed something on Marketplace, and a fake profile messaged with a name combining two authoritarians from WW2.
Tell 'em to meet you in the bunker
TitoBenito: Is this item still available?
Bro you met Adolph Stalin?!
Virtually yes.
I listed the item for free and he asked how much I wanted for it.
I road tested the Aldi peanut butter block of chocolate up against Whittaker's and I was quite underwhelmed.
Aldi: It was very sweet. Gritty. It scratched the itch but I probably wouldn't get it again because there are better ones in that range. 3.5 / 5 yum yums.
Whittaker's: Perfection 5/5 yum yums.
I love the Choceur Hazlenut block from Aldi. But Whittaker's is yum. I tried the Hokey Pokey at the weekend, delish.
The coconut one slaps too imo
Whittakers is soooo good. I do really like the Aldi pretzel chocolate though, yummo!
YT has started to flag AI generated fake Jordan Peterson videos.
Interesting.
BLOONS!
Good weather for floating
Slow slow start today but I'm finally in the uni libary and have written down some big dot points. Yes, today is another day, and maybe it will be different from the previous two days.
I did have an L-theanine capsule with my coffee today in the hopes that it helps with more focus. I'm down to three left; maybe I should place an order on iherb now... edit: nevermind, CW has it click and collect just across the road from mine, that'll do.
Yay! I'm so excited to see your progress!
Thanks! I am making slooow but positive progress with fleshing out the discussion section points. Omg but my brain is just dying for dopamine at every stage. It is so hard to get myself to care about this. I think the L-theanine has definitely helped though so I am happy I had the presence of mind to do a click and collect for tonight (remove all barriers to get appropriate help).
After a whole lot of fighting with chatgpt ("NO, THAT'S NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR") and about 204920392039 "final" versions of the script (very human in that way), I think I've managed to spit out my most important plots the way they should look, formatting 'n shit 'n all.
Now to start getting that skeleton together as I inch ever closer towards the Vortex of Reading to flesh out each section. I'm usually the best at literature review type things but only if I've got (a) incredible structure, and (b) a looming deadline... c'mon brain. You can do it!
e: distraction moment... woah!! Nicolette Boele might have flipped the seat of Bradfield in NSW at the very last minute by a mere 40 votes! What a close outcome! If this goes to the Teals it will be historic once again - a seat that has been 100% Lib ever since it was created in 1949.
sky pretty
Definitely too early to say anything and may be placebo effect but the L-theanine worked so well today that I decided to read more about it...
That has taken me down some rabbit holes about the COMT gene and interaction with neurotransmitters - I definitely know I should take it all with a grain of salt especially with no training in this shit, but a slow COMT gene would seemingly explain so much about why I'm so sensitive to stimulants and have to be careful about balancing them with other things so that I can use the energy and then relax at night (I haven't been able to fall asleep without distractions for years). And why moderate exercise works much better for me than intense (not that I've done either in ages tbh).
I mean, the human body is so complex I do wonder if this is only a few steps removed from woo supplement science. But I'll see if the L-theanine continues to work and maybe look at whether I can get tested in Australia (I've previously had pharmacogenetic testing done for various psychiatric drugs but not stimulants).
I've been drinking matcha for years, which has L-theanine. I'm starting to wonder if my matcha consumption is what's leading to my sluggish cognitive tempo because of the caffeine. I'm also really sensitive to stimulants.
It would be interesting to see the results of the test!
So matcha can make me feel wired but in a different way to coffee. I do feel more organised but no matter what stimulant I'm on it's hard to get that initial focus and not feel like I'm chewing away at nothing (and then invariably it takes me ages to fall asleep).
Matcha has some of the highest natural content of L-theanine but apparently to get the ideal ratio of L-theanine to caffeine you usually have to take a supplement.
What happens when your don't take any matcha or stimulants at all? Though, the body gets habituated to it so it can take a long time to get through the withdrawal effects...
Mrph
Had the forethought to prewarm bed with the electric blanket. The bathroom is so cold the floor hurts if you’re just wearing socks. Cold usually doesn’t bother me this much, I think it’s just the sudden transition.
Plans for today:
Menu planning. I have a bunch of free food kit boxes here and ordered, I need to sort everything out and make sure I have no foodz left over on moving day.
Bunnnings trip. I need to get keys cut and organise some potting mix so I can pack up some of my plants. I was going to look at getting some corflute to block off a couple of gaps in the new fencing, but I noticed a hard rubbish pile this morning that has a stack, I will stop off there instead.
Pot up a few of my plants I want to take with me.
Fridge cleanout. I need to toss everything I won't be moving, and will pack some stuff up to take to Ballarat tomorrow - I have a small chest freezer and new fridge/freezer up there already, so will be moving most of my frozen food. All the meal delivery boxes and ice packs will be very helpful for that.
If I still have any time/enthusiasm I can start packing up a few boxes of things I use least, but most likely that will be done later this week.
These Hokkien noodles I bought last week are horrible. They’re all soft and gluggy and not very nice.
The aldi ones are way better.
9 more days of this sadly :(
Wake up at 7, give doggo food then he goes outside to lie down on bluestone for 10 mins.
Just set up a google nest thing for aunt yesterday.
'Hey googs, what temp is it'
'it is 2 degrees'.
i think my favourite thing about this toy is finding all the different (rude) ways to turn it off when streaming. 'Shut the fuck up' actually works to my surprise.
Edit: trying to set up handfree calling.
"hey googs, call mum"
'I'm sorry don't have the number".
Tried it 10 times. each time afterwards it asked 'who would you like to call'
Gave up and said 'ghost busters'. and it turned itself off lol.
I use it for a lot of things. Weather, timers, lights, TV, quizzes, radio. I have one in the kitchen and one in the lounge. They're fraternal twins. One wants to answer for the other at times. I have said bad words to them.
I also terrorise my dog with bird noises and dogs barking.

Why must it be 1 degree when I wake up for work in the morning?
Goodnight all 🧊
I must have needed that 3 hour nap
TIL about Jane Remover and the Dariacore music genre: Dariacore is characterised by sped up and pitch-shifted samples from pop music and other popular media, breakbeats, and Jersey club influence..The genre was described by Raphael Helfand of The Fader as "an entire genre in and of itself, taking hyperpop's silliest tendencies to their logical conclusions".
Not really my cuppa, but I love discovering new music scenes.🙂
I would have thought Dariacore is music inspired by the cartoon Daria.
La La La
Managed to sleep a fair while before I woke up this time. I wonder if the cold has anything to do with it?
Defs hungrier then normal at this hour....
Gave Melbcat her meds… then belatedly realised that the tap water I mixed it with was painfully cold 😭I’m sorry baby
Next time I’m adding hot water from the kettle to make it a comfortable temperature
retro tv review
Superman cartoon series 1941. Plex.
What a strange show, it is of it's time, heavily influenced by live theatre.
Superman is dressed as a circus artist. He has a fanfare and spotlight. The ringmaster introduces him.
The artistic style is art deco and has that strange un natural look. You can see Superman is a toon and lives in toon land with toon physics.
There is a nod to screwball comedy with the sassy female co-star in Lois Lane.
And story is influenced by contemporary politics as well as science fiction like Buck Rogers and Metropolis.
4 hobbits for interest.
So I just stood on the couch and checked the aircon - it was made in 2012
if I could find the fucking labels on mine i might be able to reset them ...argh . I have portable heaters I own and oodies but using household efficient heaters would be nice
I'm being bullied while I'm eating dinner...
You can see just from her face she's cheeky.
I don't have this problem tonight
So cute!
Nah… you’re not holding up your end of the bargain as servant to your supreme overlord
Maybe, but that poor cat is clearly being STARVED and has never eaten before in her whole life, so who's the real bully here?
"Skin and bones!!" she cries lol
She is so beautiful.
