I put on my grown up pants today and called to book in for a new mental health plan and reached out to a psych for an appointment. She specialises in depression and trauma but can also do adult adhd assessments so I'm hoping she can help me unpick some things. I'm not in crisis (which I have been every other time I've sought help) so I'm feeling partly good about this and partly feeling like I am wasting everyone's time and they will think I'm bunging it on .... and that folks is why I need help unpicking some stuff !
But geez louise there's proper money required even with the rebates. faark this system - It shouldn't be a privilege to be able to seek help.
I've got on my list to get a new mental health care plan as well, it's time to invest in my MH again as I've felt myself slipping a bit lately. This post has motivated me to make a booking.
The cost for appointments is ridiculous even after the rebate. I called last week to find out the updated prices of the place I used to go for therapy, and they've hiked so much just in the 18 months since I last went.
Good on you for taking next steps, it's not easy but it is very necessary. Having just done that today though, good lord I hear you on the costs - I won't listen to a thing the Feds spruik around MH until they put more money into subsidising treatment. Especially if MH is impacting your earning capacity...
faark this system - It shouldn’t be a privilege to be able to seek help.
It's expensive to be ill, unfortunately, and a lot of healthcare still seems to treat mental health as a cosmetic thing, like teeth, or eyes.
Although there is a bitter irony in that to get diagnosed and treated for ADHD, you need to make a bunch of appointments and things, which someone with ADHD would struggle with.
Good on you for doing such a positive thing for yourself. I know what you mean about the rebates; 10 subsidised sessions and you're on your own. I've had the same issues with elder Minipeeler needing therapy this year.
ta da, the cabinet and base is all done
Vera nice!
ooooh that looks very nice.
Gorgeous. The steel come up real nice or (wrought iron?)
have you attempted sanding back the decorative areas on the drawers? I feel like slightly sanding back just the face of the scroll design and then re-staining could really make it more pronounced. If that makes sense.
Thing must weigh a ton.
I cleaned it a lot and did clean the scrolls extra , but I didn't sand it much at all, it's so full of deep scratches, holes and lost varnish it would have gone through the veneer.
It was also a trade off between restoring to original, which is not possible anyway, and taking 100 hours, or fixing it up to last a couple more decades, which took 20 hours.
It's cast iron and weighs a bloody ton. There's also the machine inside which probably weighs another 15 kilos.
Ooh looking good!
That looks amazing, nice work!
Looks so good
That’s so awesome.
That looks incredible!
Wow! Amazing how it's come up. Your hard work is paying off big time.
Superb!
That's utterly gorgeous! It must be so satisfying to have worked with your own hands to restore it.
Got a letter from a lord mayor candidate asking me to vote for him, but the letter is almost all generated by ChatGPT. Reckon he's gonna use an AI to run the city?
Yes. The new way of doing things is to use AI to compose an email, then the recipient asks AI to read the AI created enail and summarise it, then tell AI to compose a reply.
Busted
Me too buddy. Me too.
Edit: I think Gibson is over the singing l she used to hang out in the studio with me before, but she walked straight out when I got started lol
Would love to stop feeling anxious about an appointment for my medications that I need. I hate that cannabis is so frowned upon, that I still hold the feeling of doing something illegal, when I need it to sleep.
This has been such a shithouse week for me, no restful sleep, just nightmares and a impending sense of doom.
Fucking ugh. Leave me alone, Brain, why can't you be kind to meeee wah wah lol
Carpet moths have also returned, so slept on the couch after soaking them in vinegar and punching the ones that tried to escape. I hate carpet. Never install carpet.
I don't have the executive function to deal with this shit
I saw a few moths in my house too. Nooooo
I’ve still got the attractant traps in the pantry and the wardrobes, but am going to have to vacuum more often.
And put the crackers in the freezer as soon as I get them (to kill any eggs potentially brought home from the supermarket). I don’t see any other way they could be getting in
agree on wall to wall carpet , get lovely rugs instead
I don't think anyone would have the executive function to deal with that shit. Our minds absolutely suck at trying to protect us in this day and age. We end up feeling like shit instead.
@ Spud's mean inner voice and the carpet moths: there's the door 🚪
I hope you feel better soon <3
You are the kindest and coolest 💜💜💜
HUNGRY
Damn hormones. You'd think eating a full dinner might curb the hunger at least a little bit but no, apparently any time I'm not actively stuffing more food down my body is not happy. ☹️
Edit: There is now pudding in the oven.
The man bought me baklava on Saturday and today he bought me a block of chocolate. I love it but please stop but also thank you and keep it coming but not too much.
I bought a block of dark chocolate from Aldi last week.
I couldn’t help but demolish it. I really need to exercise some restraint.
W man
I have a problem that gets me every damn time, and it’s completely my fault.
The Athenaeum Library gives you a lovely, sturdy, capacious book bag when you join them. The borrowing period is also lengthy - one month.
Every time I go, I fill this bag.
Then I have to eventually return them, and hauling the full book bag up the stairs is a pain in the bum
That’s a beautiful library. I’d be there so often if I lived near it.
Ugh. Dealing with multiple different allergy people is a nuisance. Off to boil my blind baking beads.
Melbcat is eating well again. She started refusing the fancy wet food and seemed a bit off with the probiotics so I’ve just been giving her the plain nutritionally complete homebrand with her meds mashed in.
She is loving the electric blanket in cooler weather. Comes to cuddle in the day and sleeps on it at night. If I’m half asleep and don’t lift the doona she burrows under it herself to be incubated like an egg.
fastest way to catch a fine brace of catfish is to throw out the heated blanket. Misha was sleeping on ours last night and it wasn't even turned on (just folded on the couch)
I'm wishing and willing this headache to be a stress based one and not the premonition of a cold/flu. The last thing I need right now is that...
Having a go with Nasonex to see if it helps. God help me if I've developed hay fever this year after not having it my whole life.
Positive things for today, dropped in to a friend's place in the morning, got my MH referral and a psych appointment for Wednesday itself - glad I didn't have to wait too long at all. I just haven't got any brain cells left though. Guess I'll go to campus and do some journaling even if the papers make no sense to me. Just need to stay out of the house...
Oh headache’s not fun. I hope you’ll be rid of this headache for today pretty soon.
I think allergies are up today. I feel itchy today :/
Being out and about can be a nice feeling. Especially with what you’ve had to put up with recently.
Made a stinky savoury spread for lunch.
Anchovies, garlic, capers, mustard and some chilli. Mush with mortar and pestle, spread onto fried bread.
Absolutely delicious....definitely not office or society friendly though.
can’t see clearly from where i am but i think
sky pretty
Um, so, I burnt my thumb with concentrated white vinegar. I tried googling what to do, but I haven't been able to find an answer.
Just wondering if the wisdom of the DT has any insight?
Edit: nvm. Ive just realised it's interacting with the grazes I have on my thumb from punching moths yesterday; I missed and punched the wooden bed frame. Rinsed thoroughly
Like any burn you should run it under cold water but tbh I've never heard of burning oneself with vinegar. I hope it feels better soon.
acetic acid is nasty. Rinse with lots and lots of water.
keep it away from your eyes and don't breathe it in
i didn’t know vinegar can be that acidic
google said rinse and cover
Just water hon. And some sort of salve.
Really need to get my eyes checked. Sat down to do a quick pile of mending and spent 90% of the time failing to thread a needle.
I was having that problem, and eventually realised I need to take my glasses *off to be able to see close up now. I'm now both short sighted and long sighted, making finding a point at which I can actually see clearaly quite tricky.
I have been using needle threaders for hand sewing which I never used to need, and replaced my sewing machine with a model that has a needle threader built in.
I needed glasses as a kid, so the likely hood now isn’t a great surprise. Some of those little wire gizmos are probably in the house somewhere or other

Design flaw that having both doesn't cause them to cancel out, really.
Do the the trusty toothbrush tango - that's what I do nowadays. Damn getting ooooold - its the little things that really get to me.
That’s a new one to me. Looks a bit awkward for a machine, but am totally going to try it.
Enjoy your night everyone ❤️
It's back to school now kids. Have a great day.
Thanks mum
Four assignments due next week. Three exams. A few quizzes. Ten weeks of lectures for one subject which will be watched in 2x speed.
Then we're done.
I don't feel like I've learnt much from my degree, except that I should be better at time management. Hoping I won't be saying that about the next course I do because that one should be the one that actually gets me a job!
I’ve no idea what your area is, but learning is never wasted. I started one degree, switched to a double that kept the first major. Then went to TAFE for something totally different. The first bits of paper proved rather expensive, but I use the background knowledge indirectly everyday. Makes me better at my ‘lower’ qualification.
One of my most unpleasant jobs is to scoop the dry dog food from the big bag to the smaller bag for convenience.
The dog's most excitable jobs is to watch me scoop the dry dog food from the big bag to the smaller bag whilst I try not to gag.
Getting out of bed at 6:30am for a potential early morning soil delivery isn't the most fun start to the week. Hope the dirt and literal shit comes soon.
I'm very glad that bulk soil delivery is a "last year problem" for me. Shovelling soil into a wheelbarrow, carting it to the back yard and then shovelling it out again into raised beds was not a fun experience.
I truly feel your pain, and this isn't my first rodeo.
Since I complained about tv before I want to add a positive. This movie does not get enough credit. And possibly the best opening sequence of almost all time. Serenity's "Landing" sequence The music, the logo becoming the ship, the way it quickly intrudes the characters so perfectly to those who don't know them. and the quotes. My god the quotes!
Such a work of art.
This is one of the pieces of media where I subscribe to "the author is dead" - it's just too good
Yeah me too.
The cast, the production, it's all just -chef's kiss-
I just try and block out who is actually behind it.
Check this out.
As you know an Uncharted movie came out based on the games and I thought it was horribly miscast at the time and still do.
This was a fan project that Nathan Fillion was in before the movies came to reality.
Firefly/Serenity are still among my all-time faves. Great fun storytelling.
Well 'fun' unless you're a leaf on the wind, of course... :|
I love watching Nathan Fillion.
I have seen Serenity but not the Firefly series but maybe I should start Firefly one day.
I'm umming and ahhhing about bringing someone I've been on a few dates with me. Seems incredibly douchey...
Like "look at me" sort of thing. I dunno.
Edit: yeah nah next time I reckon
First time doing later shifts this week... 1145 to 730 ☠️ next week is 1245 to 830! Back to 9am the week after that though...
I'm going to need lots of coffee

Today I have been conducting my business while listening to various John Carpenter movie scores. It gives even the most innocuous situations a creepy vibe.
Hmm, went to a local bar last night. I used to semi-frequent it and have always had a good time.
Last night they asked to scan my ID and they took a photo of my face. I was told they only retain data until the end of the night.
Anyone have any idea what the legalities are around this?
that's a big no from me, I would leave and tell them why
I do not trust them
and there is no reasonable reason they could want that anyway
Only reason I can imagine is in case there's a fight or incident and they can provide a clear imagine to the investigators. Having said that, if a bar is doing that in the name of 'safety', I'm not entering the premises.
Yeah, I’d leave. Same reasons as others have mentioned, and why I’ve refused to provide fingerprints for elimination purposes. Data can’t be misused if it doesn’t exist.
Flinders platform 12 always smells like piss 🤮
Flinders~~ platform 12 ~~always smells like piss fixed it for ya. Its legit hard to breath in the front mens bathroom.
That is true, it is foul in front of the men's, and inside the women's.
People are gross
Related, the back entrance to my building is used as a\
I never know what surprise will be waiting for me when I use the fire escape stairs.
There's a garden bed opposite it too, idk why they don't do their toilet business there, sigh.
had a busy day of using the vacuum cleaner , playing records and writing messages to mates planned but husband is home and he needs quiet
so will go and pick up some shopping instead 🤷♀️
So I finished Umbrella Academy last night. Oh man what a disappointment. After 5 and a half episodes it was left to the final 20 minutes to explain the problem and to wrap everything up. What a dumpster fire. I mean it was never the best show, but that ending just sucked hard.
I also think it went to shit. The series started off so promising
This has nothing to do with Resident Evil does it?
no I dont think so. this was the Gerard Way comic.
Okay, seems I’m full of questions this evening.
Peeps who work in academia, pls… How do late penalties on assignments work? This is going to sound so stupid, but I really am confused about this. I always thought the late penalty was applied to the final mark, but it seems not. It is applied to the total possible mark? Can someone give me an example of how this is applied? (Also, is this standard across Universities?)
I was about to pull the raw data and found a cat got into it. There will be a pause 😾
Just to add. I did a quick google search and Monash and Deakin and a number of other uni have it as 5% per late day of total marks achievable.
So I hate to ask but were you a week late in submitting something?
When I was back in uni it used to be 10% off for a day late till I think 50% then you fail.
As someone who has submitted quite a few assignments late this semester, the penalty per day is taken off per assignment. E.g. submit assignment five days late and 10% lost per day --> a 70 becomes a 20.
I feel like this is standard across unis, but could be wrong.
I can't comment as to your schools system, but the big think about late penalties is they're usually largely avoidable by asking for an extension. In particular asking for the extension before the due date. The whole "due date" thing is partly about teaching people time management. I'd regularly ask for extensions with reasons along the lines of "I have to work a lot this month to make rent".
It will be unlikely for your trainer to say this, but I don’t think anyone will actually be reading what you submitted. They have many assignments to grade and they will only be very quickly skimming to see that your answers are relevant to the question. No one is going to spend a quarter of their work day on one student.
Yeah
I think it was Douglas Adams that said he loves deadlines because he loves the sound they make as they fly by
Someone at work that just started, has my real name. It's real fucking weird being called Simon and referring to someone else as "real name".
Looking at old Uni papers: group contribution assessment “X attended no meetings snd provided 1 tomato”
Got my open mic spot locked in for Thursday!!!!!! Fuck. Yes!
I'm so fucking pumped lol
Edit: 7:30pm Lyrebird Lounge if anyone is in that area and feels like coming along.
OMG congratulations!!!!!
I'll try and come down to see you play!
Sounds like a fun plan! Just near Ripponlea station too. Do you know roughly what time/order of performance? eg. 3rd in queue or what? No problem if this isn't known - open mics are notorious for running over the time budget, what with set ups and tear downs and all.
Cheers! Would be great, but no obligations :)
I finish work at 730... You know how late it will go?
The open mic sesh at Lyrebird runs from 7.30 to 10 pm but will probably go later (based on personal experience). If our Simon is third in the queue, then prob won't start till 8 ish or later.
