The good news is that the weird not quite right feeling I have had all week was just a cold coming not (not return of the BIG SAD). The bad news is that my throat and face hurt 🤕. Have put on 'the gentle art of Swedish death cleaning' as company while I do some cleaning on my own in between little rests on the couch.
I'm really chuffed with my new car stereo! Ahhh, modern comforts in an old car. So good to be able to use Android Auto again (though it sucks balls vs CarPlay - hopeless at voice commands, laggy as hell with confirming messages to be sent). Still, no more squinting at a phone in a cradle to see directions, and not being able to see or respond to urgent messages. No more phone blocking the vents or crackly radio either.
Sadly the front right speaker intermittently working seems to be a speaker issue, not a wire issue :/ it doesn't sound nearly as bad now that the audio is much clearer, but gosh it would be nice to have that speaker working. I wonder if it's possible to replace just one speaker, because the others are perfectly fine...
Here it is already heavily smudged by moi (I must remember to have a little glass wiping cloth in the car) ::: spoiler yay!
:::E: in less happy news I feel so incredibly sick right now. So headachey and exhausted. If this doesnt clear up by Sunday night I'm booking a drs appt. Worried I might have got pneumonia or something
Replaio is an Android Auto friendly app, for some sweet SomaFm in the car ;-)
I actually used to use Replaio for quite a while! But didn't know it could play SomaFM stations... I used it until it stopped playing PBS FM for some reason and the devs didn't fix it despite reports. I actually use the official app for SomaFM, it's good (haven't used it via AA for many months tho). Looking forward to cruising around to some tunes
So many things to do and some are such big tasks my brain gets stuck so I'm just doing lots of little tasks and eventually the pile of jobs will look manageable.
One thing I have done is sorted books and chucked out all the outdated stuff or stuff that will never be read, a whole shelf of books is gone. 👍
Next I will tidy up Miss Seagoon's things that she has in storage here. ( no chucking out, just tidying )
Did the family movie cinemas thing this afternoon. $65 for a family of four - was actually not that bad. Despicable Me 4 - had a good laugh or two.
Edit - two good spoof references too
Did you end up with a banana scented fart gun at your house too, or was that just in mine?
I'm here! Despite a hangover and waking up at 3am again!
First time at Etihad Stadium, and Essendon isn't even playing (don't speak to me about last night haha 😭)
Have a great time!
😗
Did you have any troubles getting into the stadium today?
Not at all! Just bought tickets when we got there at 1.20ish, then got a coffee at a cafe and came back and went in. There were lines, but no issues.
Have fun! Stay warm!
Just got home from big day. 7 hours out and about, 4 of which were socialising. Feeling content and tired
and you’re going to the movies tomorrow
Idk the person I'm meeting has a weird thing of being invisible sometimes. If that happens I might just bail on the movie.
I've been sorting out my sewing supplies and so far I have found 16 small screwdrivers.
Sitting in bed in the warmth with a kitty on my lap is bliss when it's cold and raining outside.
Hair = cut
New pillow, doona set, sheet set = bought
Tummy = full
Now just three hours to kill....
It’s done! The storage unit is finally cleared! The remaining boxes to be sorted are piled in the shed, but at least we won’t have the monthly fee to pay anymore.
yay , good work. 😊
Thanks! I seem to have a hoarding gene so decluttering and getting rid of things is a big deal for me. Have been chipping away at all the stuff for a while, and am finally making actual progress.
Fourth night in a row of night sweats... Ugh... This thing isn't lifting any time soon... Theres some satisfying phlegm coming out now, but my throat is still sore and I'm exhausted. The weather outside is frightful... Car radio replacement guy is meant to be coming later today after bringing the wrong unit yesterday, I hope they do make it and don't eff it up...
Have you done a covid test yet just to check?
Sounds like you really need to rest and have plenty of liquids.
I'm out of tests but I'll definitely get one on Sunday. I was hoping to be in the office for a bit on Monday as there's an urgent site visit I really need to do with a colleague, I won't go in if I feel sick regardless but if I'm feeling ok I'll do a test to be sure.
I feel like I'm going downhill again today. Daytime headaches are back, as is the lethargy. Really chugging the fluids as my pee has been alarmingly brown in the morning, no doubt from all the night sweats.
At about 10, I got an email back from the constable handling the case. It wasn't really much of an update, he just thanked me for the info I provided and said he would update the report and let me know what happens next. As far as I'm aware, old mate doesn't even know I know what he's stolen yet. Don't think the police would've even contacted him yet. And my org don't seem like the type who'd go and recover my stuff.
I'm still struggling with a lot of anxiety about it all, though. When I got home today, I found the shed door wide open and a couple of things that were previously in there out on the ground outside. Unfortunately he fucked up that lock before he left, so it no longer locks (we aren't meant to have access to the shed, but he liked to smoke and drink with his dodgy mates in there, so he just broke the lock). It was held shut by 2 paint cans in front of it, so probably wouldn't have come undone through the wind. But I didn't see anybody go through the side gate (which is just a simple latch, no key), which my camera has a small view of. That makes me think either it was the wind, and I'm overthinking this, or he took a clone of a key to come in through the back fence gate, or just jumped the fence.
Also, I still haven't signed my enrolment paperwork for the TAFE course…. I had questions about some info that seemed inaccurate in the report when they sent it to me at 4:48pm on Wednesday, so I replied to the intake or sales lady asking for clarification, and she never replied. I had a busy day yesterday, so I didn't follow up, and now it's the weekend… I'm meant to start this Tuesday! It's all feeling really overwhelming and like it's too soon now, since I'll have 24 hours (at most) after the paperwork is signed before I start — and I missed the intake last week. I don't want to bail, but I don't think I'll have enough time to prepare and get myself ready, mentally or practically (there's apparently some learner handbook thing I'm meant to read before I rock up that I can't access until I am enrolled and can access their LMS thingy).
Thoughts, wise DT people? Should I call first thing on Monday and just go for it anyways? Should I ask to swap to a course starting at a later date (they seem to run this course fairly frequently, so it'd most likely just be a month or so wait)?
My thoughts, as someone who did the Cert III - albeit over a decade ago and through RMIT, where it was a pilot program and a total shitshow...
Honestly I'd talk to the office on Monday. I suspect the handbook is some bureaucratic nonsense that everyone's 'supposed' to read but no-one does, but ask. Likewise about whether it's worth waiting for the next intake - in my experience the course wasn't academically challenging but very emotionally challenging though that may have been because I was caring for Mum at the time.
Good luck!
Yes call them, and go for it. It’s gonna feel a bit scary whether you do it now or in a months time, because it’s a big step forward. Doing something new. Take the leap and get started. New things can often feel overwhelming, but you got this!
Oh man… I’m so sorry mate. Fuck this kid.
I don’t really feel the wind could dislodge paint cans or remove items from the shed.
I can’t say if you didn’t manage to film him entering but it is very possible that he jumped the fence and might still return to use the shed with his mates. Or it could be another opportunist. It might be prudent to assume the worst and report anything unusual. Is it possible to replace the lock if it’s a padlock or bolt a new lock on and charge the organisation?
As for tafe it’s definitely an option to defer if you need more time. Listen to yourself and what you want to do
This morning I noticed the paint cans were moved again and the shed was once again wide open. Still nothing on my front security cam, which means if he did return he had to have either jumped the fence in the backyard or must've had the front door key cut to unlock the side gate that faces onto a road (the gate into the back yard from the front yard just has a latch and no key, but the gate from the road uses the same key as the front door).
Before I went to bed last night, I took a peek at the shed door and it was definitely locked. So I'm going to go buy another security cam that'll face the shed as well as the side road gate. I'll also set one of our outdoor chairs against the door in case it really is the wind. At the very least, if it is somehow the wind, I should get some peace of mind about it. And if it is somebody opening the door, then, well, I'll have to cross that bridge if I come to it.
This shed is more like a garage but without a garage door. It's made of bricks and looks kind of similar to the new fancy modern ones they put in all the new double decker cube box house things, just freestanding and in the back yard. Unfortunately there's no way to padlock it or lock it without changing the lock, which the area manager did agree to have done ASAP, but their contractors tend to be kind of slow so it might be a while. The side fence gate from the front yard can be padlocked, so I ordered one from Bunnings that'll be delivered tomorrow. The gate to the road can't be locked anymore than it already is. That fence is high enough that it's not just decorative, but low enough even me and my out of shape self could probably jump over it with a standard kitchen chair. Someone a bit more in shape could probably just jump it.
Thanks melbsy, I think I'm going to call the course lady on Monday and explain how I'm feeling and see what she can offer. She did mention on Monday that I had a choice to either start anyway or wait til the next intake. But I think I need more time, so I might go for the next intake if she can still arrange it. My enrolment paperwork hasn't been signed yet anyway, so I haven't officially taken my place yet, do it can probably be done.
(Sorry for such a long comment... I didn't realise how long it was going to turn out)
Yes, I'm on a meal plan. No, you cannot stop me from eating this giant Costco cookie.
Is this what they call dirty bulking?
Edit for anyone doing a late night read: I ate three of them and I have no regrets.
I am eating a giant cookie shaped rice cake.
With lots of stuff right?
Mmmm only 35 Calories
I feel like absolute shit today. I have no idea why. Aching all over, woke up with a sore big toe for some reason. Really fatigued. Blah
hugs
Thanks <3
Roast beef for dinner was a touch rarer than anticipated, but very very yummy. I ended up eating quite a lot, and Mr Woof enjoyed the plateful of juices that oozed out while it was cooling.
I had grand plans for all sorts of tasks today but have achieved nothing so far. The drizzly cold is not helping motivation levels. It’s now officially a do nothing day except make dinner. Having slow cooked osso bucco with mash. Will be consumed with a good wine.
Feeling grumbly and lazy. Haven't gotten out of bed and struggling to find a reason to. Everything just feels hard today. Might be the wind?!
Slipped in cat sick on lino at like 6.30 in the morning. Thankfully I managed to catch myself, that could have been bad.
I purchased another security cam which is going to face the back shed area. Unfortunately I can't actually find a position for it to watch over the back road gate/fence and the shed at the same time, so I settled for just a view of the fence. Maybe when my 3 stolen phones eventually get replaced, I could look at setting them up around the other sides of the house, just to keep an eye on everything. That was the original plan, anyway.
But this morning I noticed the paint cans keeping the shed door closed had been moved again. This time there's no doubt in my mind that it was not the wind, although I don't quite feel certain it was the other kid yet. I mean, logically, that's pretty much the only person it could be, but why? What would he get from moving paint cans and opening the shed door? It's just an odd thing to do. There's not even anything in the shed anymore, because he stole all the old equipment and such that we had in there. Here's a rather shitty MS paint drawing of what I mean:
I don't think it's possible for the wind to do that.
Didn't you say him and his friends used it to smoke in there? Maybe the friends are still using it?
Also how full are the tins because its been quite windy?
Yeah I did say that. That is a good thought, and entirely possible. But I thought he would've told them he no longer lives here.
Paint cans are about half full, probably about 1kg each. But where they've ended up doesn't seem like somewhere the wind would've pushed them
I love party pies. They're easier to control than the big guys.
Me too. I have some regular frozen ones at the moment.
We've been indulging in the temptation bakery cheese party pies. They're really nice.
Was going out tonight but not feeling well from adjusting sleep schedule.
Also got caught in the rain for 45 mins without an umbrella which really sucked ☔
So umm... What do people do on weekends if they don't have a computer
What Seagoon sed.
Akshully, a non-computer weekend could be a blessing. Time to audit all your equipment, work out what's still functional and what's not, and deal with both accordingly. Because you have the time to do so without being in a hurry to get things up and running.
Take three deep breaths, assume the lotus position and then apply dencorub to the bits that hurt.
I remember when I didn't have a computer. Used to do more work around the house, but not much more. Read a lot of books. Went out on day trips/hiking. Saw friends and family. Did hobby activities like gardening or knitting. Watched tv or listened to cds.
Repair it
Alas, that must wait until Monday when I can go into the office
I don’t use computers (except my phone of course) so it’s pretty much status quo. MissGod is taking me to see the new horror/ thriller Longlegs, and then I imagine we will grab an early dinner afterwards.
Okay… I think I’ve honoured my part.
I didn’t make it halfway through (Choeung Ek) without having a bit of a cry though and I didn’t go into the Stupa.
One thing I respect (and I know it’s not for everyone), they don’t sugarcoat it. They just say it how it is.
I’m generally a sucker for the heavy stuff, but this wasn’t actually high on my list of plans. What on earth does my brain do sometimes?
Anyway if anything, present me is now thankful for my bougie hotel splurge at my next stop. (Recovery and helping the economy is going to be my mantra.)
Omg the fuck cancer episode of the Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning. 😭😭😭
Think I cried in a few of them.
I'm enjoying the show overall...it's good gentle watching while I am out with a cold. But my sister had lung cancer so I don't know why I thought I could tough out that one...
Ended up not making the paella as it turned out I didn't have any stock or stock cubes in the house, and actually I felt more like a stir fry anyway. So I made a satay-ish one with chilli and felt the better for it, esp. with some Stones Green Ginger wine.
Curled up on the couch with Zooks for a while, and have just crawled into bed with Sammi.
Ooooh ima gonna buy me a heated hoodie today. Mwaha
I bought a heated throw recently and it’s the best thing ever
Anti-gratitude thread.
Waking up with a blocked nose, probably because I'm a stomach sleeper. Might have to build a wall around myself so I don't roll onto my stomach.
On that note, does anyone experience that weird itch in their body that tells them to change positions when trying to sleep?
Having to travel for an hour to get the cat the treats she likes. Worth it, but still...
What was this specific treat, and how did you come to find out that was the one she liked?
Not an itchy but kind of a twitch, if that makes sense?
That's probably a better way to describe it.
The car stereo guy is here and working on my car! I'm too tired to overthink about whether he'll do a good job or leave things half-done that I have to follow up on. I'm just going to Believe in the Universe and that this is a company that I can trust enough to do what's needed...
While he's at it, I hope he can fix the loose wire that causes the rhs speaker and back speakers to cut in and out. It absolutely shits me atm.
Really can't wait to have proper Bluetooth and Android Auto in the car, and a reversing camera (pretty cheap one they're installing but something is better than nothing). That way it'll be easier to teach my niece some driving, and it'll be a much nicer experience for me for years to come. A 13 year old Civic with 200k on it and a good service history still has a ways to go, hopefully...
Okayyyyy I guess I'm going to be productive and go into the city to get a haircut and buy some stuff from Kmart I should have bought weeks ago. Then I'll go to Udon yasan of crossways for lunch. My friend also picked the worst evening for it to be her birthday. Pub for dinner and drinks tonight for her bday
Woke up automatically at 6:45am which is great.
Did got back to bed because it's freezing lol
I woke up about 5 mins before my 4am alarm. Spent some time debating whether to just get up or wait for the alarm to go off. Fortunately I realised just before I acted on my decision to just get up that it is not a work day. Rolled over and went back to sleep for a few hours.
Is anyone intersted in Craftsy membership for free? I just signed up for a year and can give "guest membership" to three other people. There are cooking classes as well as various crafts. If you are interested send me a DM with your email and I can invite you.

Yikes just jumped up on the roof to suss whether the gutter guards I put in were still in place after that wind.
Turns out I have a lot gutter cleaning to do :( I swore I just did them recently.
Which brings us to a rave choon. Fuck the gutter
I finished watching Once Upon a Time In Hollywood and I understood it but I'm still confused why it got such rave reviews. Did I miss something? I thought it had no real story line.
I don't understand why it had real people in it but not the truth.
I’ve watched it about 10 times now. It really does get better with more viewings. If you just ignore some of the superficial stuff, it’s a great story of a failing actor dealing with loss of fame, popularity and continued success in fickle Hollywood. His waning self confidence is exacerbated by alcoholism. I think it’s some of DiCaprio's absolute best work.
Also I think Brad Pitt won a best supporting actor Oscar for this one and for the life of me I can’t figure out why. His role had no range whatsoever. (Kind of a weird because he was leading man in Ad Astra the same year with the same stilted acting style)
The final act in the film is just pure Tarantino revenge porn which he has built a reputation on. It’s a trademark for him.
9/10
I agree, DiCaprio was very good.
And on further reflection, I've only seen it twice, I think the story was taken from Once Upon a Time in The West. He even used that same very famous opening shot of the town and many other angles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdL__zuZvpA&t=228s
One of Tarantino’s things to do alternative history storylines, and what-if type stories, where the winners are the people that didn’t get to win in real life. Other examples are Inglorious Bastards and Django unchained. I don’t think it was the best of his movies, but I didn’t mind it. Agree it was a bit overhyped.
Oh. This makes a little more sense now. Thanks.
Gratitude thread
Grateful for my mum making my dinner last night. Also the cheat cookies I ate.
Grateful to be on holidays in Port Fairy. And to be unaffected by all the IT drama, so far at least.
Bah. Another bad loss tonight. Switched channels to save myself from more pain.
Now I don’t know what to do.
I legit don’t know how people do the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum without breaking down. I’m usually sooky with poor sleep, but this took just about all my will power.
It wrecked me. Saddest and most chilling place I’ve ever been. (Have not been to holocaust sites, I assume they are the same). The horror of what human behaviour can descend to is repulsive and terrifying.
I haven’t been to any either, but there is a level of… I don’t think words can accurately describe it. It’s an infectious psychopathy that belies belief, but I also have questions (I don’t get into a lot of war history) what happens when you’re collateral damage in a war.
There are a couple older gents there that are survivors and one of the banners said that he now identifies with those members, feeling as though they were victim themselves.
I think the human capacity to endure in the face of such horror… I just have no words, really. I don’t think I would ever have that strength.
Good night everyone. 😘🤗
Night goonsinator 3D. Good dreams only
What are the odds the card readers at my usual market stops will be working? I need to know if I should take cash to shop with
Bring cash just in case 🤷♂️
So no secret here that I pay obnoxious amounts for coffee. Not particularly a coffee snob, but heh, I get around.
The most expensive so far I think I’ve paid for was at Greece Airport.
So far:
The last equates to under $3 AUD. I gave $2 (USD) and said to keep the change…
I’m now sitting in a park contemplating how this feels like it’s socioeconomically representative. Not from what we can afford, but what they charge. % Arabica, was good but just the general level I’d expect in Melbourne from a minimalist white designed cafe, but not for that price point which was around $8 SGD to begin with.
Props to Kenangan, though. Man who made my coffee, hard to tell with age, but easily 50s, maybe 60s?
Probably can go on a holiday with my coffee money.
I mean, I didn’t even to ask for the price, so when it came up I was like: 😑
I moved to making my own coffee because of how much I was spending on takeaways in a week and this was awhile ago.
What I spent over a year could have given me a holiday as well.
I feel cold. I hate this feeling.
I'm stuffed. Eagles phoned it in like a bunch of Wallys LOL! Thai and drinks for dinner.
Home now and the cat is very happy to see us. His cuddles at the end of the night make braving the cold all day worth it.
Watched the new Beverly Hills Cop movie on Netflix. Very bland. Eddie Murphy was so flat. Pity. I remember the originals being really fun.
Anyone ever had an “Amount exceeds the contactless offline limit.” When trying to pay for something with their phone?
First time I’ve had this…
Edit: Turns out it’s on their end. Annoying.
Something that's popping up is that falling in love, if you can call it that, never felt like peace. It was exciting and all, but the deep sense of contentment that I longed to feel wasn't there? Falling in love in a non-romantic way has just felt way more 'peace and calm'. Maybe it was a matter of being in the wrong relationship.
I hope that this idea I have of love is just a sign of my amateurish existence.
hugs, all of are still learning, no matter our age
that peace and calm comes with romantic love too
I found in an earlier relationship I was often agitated, an energetic unease , to me excitement is more anticipation of good things or positive energy
I've got my the design for the covers for my antique chairs sorted and pinned ready for sewing. I think I will make some matching scatter cushions too. :)
In honour of the dreadful weather today I will be making a beef roast with yorkshire pudding for dinner. With lots of gravy.
Pork Veronique for me. Got the ingredients this morning. First time I've cooked it since my bloke passed - it was his favorite dish (and very close to mine). Terribly bad for him (so much cream!), but so delicious. It's time to reclaim it now the grief has retreated a bit.
EDIT: Is there a sane and rational reason why supermarkets DON'T sell frozen mirepoix? I would have thought that such was a no-brainer but WDIK. They keep putting corn in the mixed vegetables, where it has no business being imo.
It really is looking like a chips and gravy kind of night. If i had the energy and didn't already have food in the fridge I'd be seriously considering making my own poutine...
I'll be making pizzas. Not fancy , just a mushroom pizza and a pepperoni pizza.
We're doing pizzas too.
I'm gonna do a big fat beef stew. Tossing up whether to go traditional or break out the masala for more of a curry vibe
Just made some qeema (Nagi's recipe) and will be making Jack's version of paella.
Meat lovers pizza with extra bacon and mushrooms for me tonight.
Pub Parma and pints for me
