AYO THAT'S LEMMY! I DID IT AHHHH
Confirmed. Source: am Baku
anyways imma bounce now because I feel like exposing a computer in my actual house is a bad idea, even with cloudflare hiding my actual ip (if I did it right anyways).
Idk if my federation is doing the do or not, but after I post this I'm officially closing down my personal Lemmy instance I lovingly entitled "Baku's Offbrand Lemmy"
yay 🏆
About to speak to the company now. This is when I have to tell them about the police check. Here we go.
Mentally, I've accepted that I'll be disquialified for the role, but it was great getting the experience!
Edit: Not looking good. Because of the type of client this company has a contract with, anything on a police check is bad news. The guy was nice, and is still going to double check, but yeah. No luck this time again.
Edit 2: confirmed no luck. Cannot have anything on police check. Fuck.
🤞🤞🤞

I think it’s the right thing to do, but choose your words carefully. It could be the difference between looking like an active problem or achieving issue overcome.
Boredom, Art, or Arseholery?
At least it wasn’t the couch
There is a reason I’m recovering the couch
Cat
Why can't cats learn to do this?
Thumbs?
You really need to clip your nails.
Art. Without a doubt.
Went food shopping and got carried away by accident.
Had to put back the lollies because I was scared I overspent but I did treat myself to 2 bottles of pink moscatos which I’m looking forward to soon.
On the bright side though I did about 2 weeks worth of shopping.
Hoping it lasts as long as I think it will.
Dad's in the USA at the moment, so I have an opportunity to use US Amazon and have him bring things home that are normally too expensive/unable to ship to Australia.
So, I'm looking to get my wife a new lunch box. And even accounting for our American friends' love of putting adjectives in front of any consumer product, I have to say the phrase "tactical lunchbox" just makes me giggle.
"I'm far too manly to carry around a lunch box!"
"But, it's a tactical lunch box, dear."
"Oh. Well, that's ok, then! I will take my tactical lunch box to work in a very manly fashion!"
Food stays fresher longer if there's an american flag and a picture of a bald eagle on the front. God forbid that any ignorant person should call these a, a, a, a 'handbag'!
That looks so cool ...lol
Put on a bra that was still a bit too damp from the wash, and now I have chilly titties. My poor, poor chilly titties 🥶
Beware underboob damp rash
yup, there could be some serious chaffing
Some guy swearing in the alley. It's too early for your anger, bro.
Edit: also purchased Doom and Doom II on GOG, because they were having a big sale and these were only $3 each. Having so much fun, such a nostalgia trip.
Yesterday I decided that I wanted to mess around with hosting a Lemmy issue, and since I've been trying for the better part of 12 hours, I think it's safe to say I wouldn't make a very good Lemmy host.
The Lemmy files themselves are fine, so far anyways. But actually getting them working has just been issue after issue after issue. I'm almost done - all I need to do is run the ansible playbook. Unfortunately I can't get ansible to work through terminal. I'm pretty sure it's an issue with ansible not being added to path, but no amount of adding things to path has helped, zsh still has no clue wtf an ansible is. So I decided to homebrew it. All well and good until I realised it's actually building ansible and all of its requirements from scratch, with most of the requirements taking between 5 minutes and 2 hours to build 🙂
As much as staring at a screen for 12 hours progressively fixing error after error kills the psyche, it's also kind of fun. I mean I'm like an offbrand wizard at this point! I may take 48 hours to complete the spells you want, but that's not because I forgot about you, it's because I have to complete 9,787 things before I can do your spell + figure out wtaf I'm doing
There's something really special about what I call the "IT fucking bullshit cycle" that can be hard to explain. It really is rewarding lol
I'm not sure I'll get much reward out of this since this is just a test I'm running on whatever hardware I have to see if I can work it out to see if it's worth renting a VPS
llvm is still building, a good 40 minutes after it started. Google tells me it can take up to 4 hours, but I'm too scared to leave it alone and check in the morning😅
Edit: 2 hours and it's still building. I'm calling it and going to sleep and just sort of hoping it doesn't fail overnight
You're a ritual caster not an instant spell caster. Rituals take time.
😘 🧙♂️
If the wizards eyeballs were still working after half a day of screens,.I'm sure it would be happy
Just got the message that I'm good to book an appointment with the MC doctor, which I've set for Monday morning (soonest available). I guess that means I'm borked enough to be eligible.
It's the finishing touch that gets me 🤣 https://www.reddit.com/r/SipsTea/comments/1cyfwu0/once_upon_a_time_there_was_a_dog/
the clips that hold the fridge door bin in broke. Not the ones on teh easily replaced little tray / bin / drink holder thing, nooo. The ones in the actual door moulding itself.
...3d printer up your ARSE, westinghouse.
I may ask you to do the left switch bits for my fridge i the ntdf. Why build in the swap and not provide both parts? Oh, yeah, $$
Have a squizz at thangs or thingiverse and see if someone's already modelled it. Cuts down on a lotta work
(Mine i had to design from scratch. Thankfully it's an older fridge so there's fuck all in the door moulding and i could just bolt them in)
Bit worrying to see a Victorian kid come back on a flight with bird flu, and that poultry outbreak. I was really hoping it would miss us.
Edit: Do you think it would have been included in this years flu shot?
Pandemic 2: Electric Boogaloo
Price of eggs gonna go sky high. As someone who can’t eat dairy or wheat, this is gonna suck.
No there's no vax for it yet :-/ I don't think they've seen human to human transmission yet tho.
Ahh... guess that would be too much to ask. Given that there was warning I just hoped they'd already be working on it, or a vaguely similar strain would have been included
Edit: But I mean if the possibility of transmission between people even exists then why wait? We saw the cost and disruption of lockdowns and the strollout. I really want the government to be more proactive this time if we're at risk of another pandemic.
I know it’s not Friday but damn this pink moscato is tasty.
Nice to wind down a little bit tonight.
that sounds delicious
turns out the cat can operate the touch controls on the hotplate. Thats good to know, better turn that off at the isolation switch.
One of mine has been sticking paws in the toaster. Pretty sure he’s not got the strength to turn it on, but OFF at the power point just in case. Suicidal idiots.
Now you just have to teach him to open the fridge, dice and cook.
Finally found my old Kukri from a trip to Nepal in '99 and this w/e going to try and restore it so it's shiny and sharp.
Centre of balance is right where the blade starts to curve so about half way. All my chef knives centre is the bolster / heel.
Surprised customs let a kid (was 13 at the time) in with such a devastating weapon.
According to wiki: "traditional custom that the blade must draw blood before being sheathed".
Instead gonna see how an onion fares:
Sherpa dude who was with us pointed out the good ones so with any luck he was right.
Did you get the two tiny throwing knives that go with a kukri to make a set? I have one that my grandfather brought back from what is now Pakistan back in the 1920s. It has two little ones set in tiny sheathes on either side of the sheath for the big one. They are seriously gorgeous in a lethal kind of way - just 5 cm long blades and the handles are at least twice that length. I agree that the big one must draw blood before being sheathed again after use. Can recommend the big one for butchering big cuts of meat down to manageable size - perfect for jointing a sheep or deer or dividing up a beef ribcage into manageable sizes. Plenty of heft and a very sharp edge. Does serious damage to a chicken with just one chop which you had better get right or there's chicken bits all over the kitchen. Ask me how I know (no don't).
These blades are made from a kind of steel that rusts up very fast, but holds a razor sharp edge that is quite durable. They are a lot of work to care for, and need to be coated in vaseline or similar after every use/wash up. They will rust up fast in a kitchen drawer or in a knife block. If you're going to sharpen it yourself, I recommend using wetstones and finish the edge with arkansas stone or similar. Basically the same care as very fine woodworking chisels and for much the same reasons. You might like to take it to a sharpener shop that does knives for sashimi - they'll know how to manage this kind of steel. Which is different, very different, from what's sold as chef's knives nowadays.
Anyone seen my tiny card wallet? I'm about 75% sure it's somewhere in the house. But probably somewhere ridiculous.
I've checked all around my place, I don't think you left it here.
Thanks!
Do you drive? Could it have slipped out in the car? How do you normally carry it? Jacket pocket? Pants pocket? Handbag? When was the last time you remember seeing it? Which room were you in? Do you think maybe your cat/dog/rabbit took it?
Have you looked under the cushions?
Yep. And in the pockets of things I haven't even worn... hopefully it'll turn up tomorrow.
Bad allergy day, but why ? Need to move to another country, allergies all year is just shit.
I had it last week which I thought was odd.
I googled myself and apparently I'm in a BuzzFeed article after they pilfered a comment I left on Reddit
Gosh they really are bottom of the barrel garbage, aren't they
I have a thesis Thankyou mention from somebody I’ve zero memory of. Bit embarrassing really
Our 'normal' cycle is like 2 hrs long, but we've been using the quick 50 minute one. Works fine.
After gutting every appliance in the house, including the cats’s automated red dot, I have found 2 functional AAA batteries and the TV will talk to me. Bring back actual buttons!
Is the red dot thing ok? It doesn't frustrate them? I've got a laser pointer but everyone says it's bad for them because they can't catch it.
One loves it and will go the full 15 min chasing. The other likes it for about 2 then gets frustrated and sulks. That are very different boys.
bad for dogs, because we've built inferiority complexes into them and they think they've failed. Cats don't give a shit and will kill for fun so a miss is a meh

Movie and Tv review. Narnia.
The movies. Watched these and they seem to be written for younger kids . It's been Hollywoodised, the kids look modern, they speak in modern language, the characters are different. It seems to have lost charm. Social class does not exist. It's a serious show. Has CGI. If I had never read the books or seen other shows I might think this was good. 2 hobbits
The 1988 BBC series. All the people and places and things are modelled after the original Pauline Baynes book illustrations. The dialogue is taken from the books. The kids have real individual personalities. There is a playfulness to the series. This tv series was the first show, tv or movie, to have cgi , the BBC funded the cgi research, it looks a bit clumsy by our standards but everything else makes up for it. It's so enjoyable. 5 hobbits.

Sophie Wilcox was in my sister's class at school. She got very carried away with her childhood stardom, but fair enough, she would have been 11 or 12 or something.
Resting my poor sciatica, it seems sensitive but comes good quickly.
I gave up, at least for now. I finally managed to get ansible working and everything added to path, and the first half of the ansible deploy script thingo worked fine, but then when it tried to start docker compose it kept screaming about a bad API chunk. In trying to fix it, I seem to have made the problem worse 🫤 I'll probably go back to it eventually, I never do leave things alone when they don't work
Edit: on further reflection I decided to google and it seems that Docker doesn't support Ubuntu Server 24.04, and the lemmy-ansible page specifically states they only support 22.04. I thought that I had chosen 22 and not 24, but now I'm thinking that it's probable that I actually clicked 24.04 🙄 Classic PEBKAC. That'd also explain why literally nobody else seems to have gotten this error before. On the plus side, because I just sort of assumed if it didn't work it would be because I screwed it up, I didn't open an issue or ask for help. So at least my ego hasn't been deflated
duckduckgo search is down
Goodnight from beneath the spare doona
So beautiful 😍
Good night
I love him.
That tail 🥰🥰
Such floof! And the bib 😻
This is the fluffiest gentleman I have ever seen!
