2nd harvest is in:
Those little ones take faar too long to pick. Dense little shrubs and trying to navigate to the middle with scissors is a PITA. Still don't really know what they are. Probably birdseye but they taste different to the shop ones.
And finally full sized habs (and hot af) unlike last year.
Edit.. ooh looks like they've changed the forecast... ouch.
Hope the organisers of moomba have thought about cooling stations / misting spots.
Beautiful babies
Ooh spicy. I find that home grown chillos taste different to the shop ones even if they're more or less the same variety. Got that terroir going on
terroir
TIL a word!
I was reading this today:
https://www.dmagazine.com/food-drink/2023/05/why-jalapeno-peppers-less-spicy-blame-aggies/
And it got me thinking where the little ones above came from originally. I planted maybe 2, 15+ yrs ago just as little hobby (so I'm guessing they were from woolies) and they kept going. Wasn't buying seeds just saving the ones from those (they pretty much only stocked birdseye then). And from memory they were a lot smaller.
After picking them today, safe to say if I were a farmer I'd selecting for size and I wonder if that's what happened here too. hrmm.
Today is le hard, and I am le tired
Ze missiles are waiting
I had plans on Saturday but now it's gonna be 3 days of air conditioning instead.
Just saw it myself too, holy hell they bumped up the temps on Sun and Mon. I'm meant to be going out to Ballarat on Sunday on the v/line, hope the tracks don't melt or whatever bs often happens on a string of hot days.
I wonder if this is the hottest streak we've had since 2019/2020
Just looked too. Eeek. Good weekend to wash blankets, pillows and cushions too if you are so minded. Definitely an early shop on Saturday tho, then some heavy duty hibernation.
I just read that it has been ten years since that MH370 plane went missing. Honestly, the older I get, the more time blurs.
Morning all. One of my favourite people resigned at work and today is her last day 😢 Elder minipeeler has started therapy but is still not going to school 😕 Miniest has decided today she is joining him, and I didn't have the time or energy to argue about it 🤬😔 Old friend is in Australia for a week and is coming over for dinner tomorrow night 😃 Managed to get a load of washing done because I wasn't trying to get kids ready for school 😐
😢+😕+🤬+😔+😃+😐=?

A 22 year old man has been arrested in connection to the disappearance of Samantha Murphy. No charges have been laid as yet.
Help I'm addicted to NYT puzzles. I'm in bed for hours doing crosswords
I'm addicted to SCP stories. I could sit in bed all day and read them. Send help!
Sending in the MTF to administer amnestics...
DjKaktus is my fav SCP writer. And anything religious and keter. Love me some end-of-the-world scenarios.
I remember visiting the site just before the 1000 block competition, and to see it grow the way it has is incredible. When I'm stuck on what to do, I read SCPs.
Nellie’s first newsletter has arrived. There is a quiz.
7/10 too - we need to up our numbat game to support Nellie. I admit that I had to guess the scientific name (but got it right for all the wrong reasons).
Oh my goodness, the picture of the baby. I got 7/10 and am officially a Numbat Maestro.
soo cute 🥰
8/10. Lucky guesses!
You got 7/10 correct answers Congratulations, Numbat Maestro! You've proven yourself as the ultimate champion of Numbat knowledge. Your expertise is truly impressive, and it's clear that you've delved deep into the wonders of the numbat kingdom. You're not just a quiz-taker; you're a Numbat virtuoso! Keep spreading the love for these remarkable marsupials!
I am not a Numbat ball aficionado, just sayin'
8/10 not too bad
Just finished the psychometric test for that possible job. Gotta say, not a fan of that kind of stuff.
How can you possibly judge a person based on a ridiculous "test"?
The companies have been sold these tests by the companies that designed them. It's all pseudoscience shite.
I hate them so much, they utterly useless and a complete waste of time for everyone involved.
Hungry hungry Montague. Nom nom nom.

Slight headache and drowsiness. But got a few loads of washing done, as well as the dishes. Overall a relatively productive day.
Pasta bake for dinner, which is just leftover pasta in a dish with cheese on top... Which was made from the roast pork and veggies mein liebe made. Not a single scrap wasted in this house.
🤦🏼♂️ ffs I was meant to call and cancel that dodgy newspaper thing, but I forgot to and they charged me 18 dollars for it. That's not that much, but I literally just signed up to read a single article, which wasn't even a free trial they still charged me like 2 dollars for it. :/
They don't even give you a heads up, hell, not even a courtesy "wait until days end", they take their fee at exactly midnight, and that's the end of it. Absolute scumbags.
On the plus side, if anybody has any articles you want from the Wimmera mail times, hmu and I'll send you the content. Unfortunately there's not even that much content in most of them, it's usually just a couple of sentences about something mundane.
18 dollars Jesus Christ I'm an idiot
You're not an idiot, you just forgot. Free trials plan on doing that to people.
Ps. Not really relevant but be careful of renting to own appliances or phones too, you end up paying much higher than the actual cost of the item
Nah you're not an idiot. I kept forgetting to cancel my Xbox game pass sub for months 😅
Idk if it will help, but if you want to read an article that's paywalled, I use the website 12ft ladder (just Google it). You can paste the article URL into this site and it will remove paywalls and the like. It isn't 100%, but it works often enough :)
So how did I end my mundane work day?
By catching a trapped bird in the building and letting it fly out the window.
I think I’ve had enough excitement for one day.
💤
Also bring on the Footy!
A kind act for that bird, you should feel very happy about that! Kindness towards animals is what makes you a good human 💜
Booked a last minute trip to Hobart as it didn’t feel like I was making the most of my leave unless I got away for a bit of it. Got here today and went to the summit of Mt Wellington. So so beautiful. The city is great too from what I’ve seen, feels like a country town in Victoria. MONA planned for tomorrow.
I keep having nightmares 🥱 Must be overtired or getting too hot during the night. Definitely been letting myself get too dry
I didn't have any long weekend plans and now it looks like I'll have even less with the forecast
Looks like it's gonna be too hot to do anything. I wish I could just melt on the couch, but alas, I have a cousins birthday this Saturday 😭

Today for lunch is sandwich: Gypsy Ham, rare roast beef, jalapeño Monterey jack, hot English mustard, brioche bun.
10/10
I had a brioche bun for breakfast. Mine had avocado, bacon, egg, bocconcini and pickles. An unusual combination but it worked pretty well.
Ooh nice. I love hearing about different sandwich combinations.
I think I might go for a short walk. Getting so stir crazy in here.
Melbcat is going so much better today.
My house is an absolute tip because I decluttered some areas but ran out of energy to keep tidying. I did collect a bunch of stuff that can go though. Might sort it into leftover Coles bags so I can just ask someone to drop them off at the op shop/food pantry
hugs for you and melbcat

I'm copying a fine art youtuber and it's working. Bright primary colours are turning into muted subtle ones. I don't have a colour wheel and am not swatching but they look close. Mixing little dabs of paint with a toothpick in a paper bowl works too but is pretty awkward. (No palette knife.)
Ps. Melbcat got very excited when I opened the paint tubes. Sounds of plastic? A bowl. Something being opened. 'What are we eating?' To be fair to her I am drinking something from a cup that looks the same as the paint water cup so may actually commit the classic blunder
I go to cheap op shops for art materials and tools, cheap cutlery and dishes work great
I should go when I can. There's also a cheap Kmart brush pack with a few plastic ones I might get
Behold a precariously positioned beach toasty.
Only one lady on the beach walking her doggo tonight which came up to say hello. But the toasty was long gone all it could do was smell its shadow and look disappointed (the doggo not the lady).
I'm guessing it'll be packed over the w/e but nothing compared to the other side of the bay.
Looks amazing. How do you make a toastie at the beach? Do you make at home and take it there or is there a magical portable toastie maker I am unaware of?
Putting the sand in sandwich!
chatgpt what are skills what do i put on my cv i didnt know problem solving is a skill that is so abstract
making good scrambled eggs is a skill
getting a cat to purr is a skill
I recently updated my resume and I took the bullet points from my position description and put them in.
Just do the same thing if there's a role you really want to apply for and when they read your resume they'll think you were made for the position
🤖beep boop🤖
Soft skills vs hard skills. Hard skills are skills specific to your role. Soft skills are transferrable. Problem Solving is transferrable, you would have used your problem solving skills doing research, writing papers, deciding the best way to phrase a paragraph. It sounds stupid, like the other transferrable skills (attention to detail, critical thinking, working autonomously or as a team), but they're more necessary than the hard skills you'd learn on the job (software use, specific processes, etc).
The issue with soft skills is it can be difficult to isolate and identify them within ourselves, and then to write a cohesive CV/cover letter that addresses them. Then when you get an interview, make sure you have examples of their key selection criteria as most places will interview using the STAR approach (Situation, Task, Action and Result).
I had ChatGPT write up a nice cover letter template for myself, and then edited it to sound more like me, because I find describing myself positively to others to be the most hardest of tasks. Then I memorise some STAR answers if I get an interview, so I'm not scrambling on the spot wracking my brain.
I hate the whole process tbh. Wishing you all the luck!
That’s very helpful! I didn’t know about the STAR approach. Will keep that in mind when I rehearse my answers. Thank you!
Yeah I didn’t even think about soft skills before. I’ve been googling and asking chatgpt (and here) what they could be.
Day 4 using "expired" milk. 💪
I take it's not fill cream?
I think it works best with Skim/Lite versions.
Good luck!
Coles full cream 2 litres.
I just realised it is a long weekend, I guess I will put off my Monday plans until Tuesday. I'm glad I'll be driving up the Hume tonight and not Friday, long weekend traffic and the swarms of jet skis can be a bit of a hassle.
Oh fuckkk now I'm already dreading driving PenLink home on Friday after work. Oh well. Worth it for the long weekend!
This is not a great game of footy
Let's all just take a moment to imagine the world if that smart bloke never invented the blue LED. Imagine a world where you don't need to put duct tape over your fucking power board because the led is bright enough to light up your entire bedroom at night
I freaking love the story behind blue LEDs. That was a really good video breaking down some seriously difficult explanations of why it was so hard
I thought today was Wednesday. 😩
So I decided to do more work at home this evening to lighten what I have to do tomorrow, for the first time I’ve been allowed to work from home.
I could endure another hour or so tonight and then I’ll have nothing at all to do tomorrow and can just relax or do I just save the work for tomorrow?
Hmmm decisions decisions.
Just put an order in for some CBD-A oil. Gonna see what it does to ma' braaaaain.
The plastic tray of water I put out for wildlife keeps drying up and blowing away. I don't have a rock to weight it and don't want to put anything non-disposable out because it will be stolen. I'll look for the crappy plastic pet water dispenser because it's apparently going to be a hot weekend.
I've loaded some Coles bags up with 9 tins of the wet food Melbcat doesn't like for the food pantry, plus 2 dented cans of the one she does. It feels like wasting food but if she won't eat it maybe some other cat with a struggling owner can. Also gifted hygiene/toiletries that have sat there unopened because I don't use them.
Cat owners are going to be so grateful. 🤗🤗🤗
It's cheap food but AAFCO compliant so it's fairly good
Managed to get a bronze with one of my entries in my first ever mead competition, pretty stoked!!
YAY! Are you doing taste testing for us all?
Haha ive only got 4 bottles of the bronze award one left :( Got lots of other good stuff in the works though :)
