I just installed Connect. Soooo much better than Jerboa and the mobile browser. Actually a much closer experience to Sync than I would have thought.
And I am already contributing so much more cause the experience is that much better. Hearty recommendation guys

I just switched from connect to Liftoff. I am liking Liftoff better. Looks nice and I like that comments collapse with one tap, and up/down vote arrows and the reply button are all shown in the comments as a default (rather than having to tap or swipe to see the arrows).
Liftoff also has better formatting options. Here are a few screenshots:
- Switched from Connect to Liftoff last week too. Kinda makes sense why it's a little bit ahead of the curve given that it's a fork of Lemmur.
- I switched from Jerboa to Liftoff after every singe update they introduce breaks something new and they don't fix existing issues. My current biggest issues with Liftoff is the very un-smooth scrolling, that hard-coded bright blue, and that you can change font size for headers and sub-headers, but not general text. I'd like it to be 1-2 notches larger, on a phone with large display it's getting a bit small.
- Can't seem to log in with Liftoff.. it keeps saying that my instance (lemm.ee) can not be found.

The swipe gestures can be improved, but Connect is pretty good for an app this early in development.
Connect is the best Lemmy app out right now. Great features, look, behavior, and the dev is very quick with responses and updates.
Connect is great. It can hide read posts. But I miss Syncs feature to swipe to hide. That was the killer feature that made me stay with Sync for reddit.
agreed, this is great. Updates keep flowing. A visual separator between posts in amoled mode would be nice but its excellent. Devs should start charging for these already. At least in the settings you can 'buymeacoffee' for connect.

Try Liftoff until Sync is ready - it's much smoother than Jerboa.
Just be mindful of the default 'All' view is literally all of the lemmyverse - via that view you can't interact with instances that you aren't logged on in.
Instead change it to be 'All@lemmy.world' to use it as normal.
- Thunder is likely the closest to sync
- Honestly I have mixed results and opinions with both Jerboa and Liftoff... Liftoff, for example, wouldn't even load a GIF that I posted when Jerboa would.
  They currently also both randomly crash on me but I think that's most likely related to lemmy.world not being on version 0.18+ yet.

Hell yeah! Sync is the reason I joined the fediverse when I heard you're making an app. Been a loyal user of your reddit apps since the beginning, there is no comparison it was the best! Can't wait to see how this project matures. So far, seems to be much better than other social platforms simply because it's decentralized and all the benefits that brings. Things are looking promising and I, for one, don't miss reddit at all!

Boost4Lemmy already put a placeholder into Google Play store so people can get notified when a first build drops.

Doing the same with Sync4Lemmy would be a good idea...

Sync for Reddit was top notch. The official client felt like a joke app after using Sync. Hopefully the Lemmy version will be the same.

- You don't have to use the third party apps to know what reddit is doing is fucked up. I never used a third party app, nor did I use a moderation bot. Not to mention people could never have used Reddit before and still use lemmy
- A lot of people learned about third party apps from the protests, and knowing how shitty a thing Reddit was doing decided to stand in solidarity and quit Reddit with us.
  So please, no need to sound so condescending, it's pretty obvious what's happened here and they clearly do know. Otherwise they wouldn't be here.
- That's really shitty man, lots of people use Reddit primarily on browser but nowhere does that suggest those users don't know what the fuck is going on...

As so many others have said, their app of choice WAS Reddit, and Sync was Reddit for me. There's some good Lemmy apps out there, but my muscle memory misses Sync!

Care to recommend some of the best lemmy apps, according to your experience? So far my favorites are liftoff and connect. Until sync comes out, that is! 😄

  It has been very close to Sync.

I'll go wherever Sync goes. It was my favorite mobile client for any social app, regardless of the platform. Lemmy it is!

Anecdotally, I haven't logged in to Reddit in more than a month now. It's refreshing!

This. Sync was so nice to use that I find myself trying to use all the swipe actions sync had in all of the not so good lemmy apps currently available. None of them are as polished as sync was (and hopefully the lemmy version will be).
- I settled on Thunder for now, but it's still falling a bit short. Some of the navigation is a bit broken IMHO - e.g. opening an external link and coming back keeps bringing me back out of the post back to the frontpage. But it's the least annoying I could find. Tried Jerboa, Connect and another one before this one. Really happy to see Sync coming to Lemmy though!

Can't wait to buy a lifetime license!

Nothing happens when i press the 'Subscribe' button after writing in my e-mail address. Might be on my side the problem is. Have tried on 2 web browsers on my computer

Seems to be broken on FF (nightly, both desktop and Android). Worked on Chromium
- I had no issue with Firefox stable (114.0.2) on desktop (Windows) after temporarily disabling uBlock Origin from blocking GTM on the page.
- Both 'Microsoft Edge' and 'Mozilla Firefox' on my computer and 'Samsung Internet' browser and 'Lemur Browser' on my Android smartphone failed to register my subscription. So I had to to use an app on Android called 'Flyperlink' which created 'Bubbles' like Messenger does for each web page you open before I got it to work.

I was a paid user since the early days. I think Sync has been very generous with its pricing and extra features and would like to see it continue. Wish you the best of luck!

Ummm. I'm a bit disappointed. The site doesn't work on Firefox mobile.

I'm just hijacking this top comment to declare I've finally decided what I'm doing with my Reddit account. Instead of deleting it or overwriting it with junk, I'm going to change my password, and post my account credentials around the place on Reddit so some spambot can use my high karma account for whatever the fuck.
If anyone else wants to join in I think it will be very hard for the site admins to squash such activity and actively turn the site to shit.
I also mod a few tiny communities so good fucking luck.

It's not so much of a count down as a rough guess... Which means you could take it to mean 6 weeks from either :)

Same, Firefox on Android even in my case.
Disable enhanced tracking protection temporarily and try again. The signup form uses mailchimps which is blocked by firefox tracking protection and most adblockers.
I have no problem on firefox for windows. Maybe click it a few times to see if that changes anything?
- Correction: While there is a syntax error, that's actually not the problem. The problem was uBlock origin. Disable it and it should work. I had it on desktop and mobile, so I guess that makes sense

Disable your ad and tracker blockers for syncapps.io.

iFor me, AdGuard was blocking the form from showing up at all. Then, in Firefox, dev tools showed that the tracker tool was stopping the form from submitting. Once I disabled both things for the site, I was (hopefully) able to get it submitted. I got the "Thanks for signing up" notification on the site, anyway. I'm not sure if I was supposed to receive a confirmation email, so I'm just hopeful it worked.

Any chance you'd allow different billing than Google Play? I don't have Google Play Services and that's the reason I had to switch from Sync for Reddit.

- I can't, the app itself uses Google Play Services to check whether it has been purchased. And I simply don't have those on my phone so even if I paid, the app thinks I didn't.

You must have something else going on. I'm on Brave and the site works fine. Even turning Brave up to the highest block settings and hard refreshing still has it working for me.

I used Sync Pro for years. So glad they are coming to lemmy. It was the best reddit app in a group with solid contenders like baconreader and boost.

Incredibly hyped. Sync is the only reason I've been able to use Reddit for yeeeears, and seeing it moving to Lemmy really sealed the deal

What do you like more about kbin? I'm a new refugee and I'm still figuring out where to go to.
- I like kbin microblog twitter thingy feature. It was faster with less downtime at the time. It had more setting and I love customizing thing like round corner, color themes, sidebar on left or right, autoload post images, etc. I just have a better first impression.
  I heard someone said kbin was newer with better scalibility compare to lemmy.world.
  In the end it doesn't matter which one you choose. They both can view the same contents being posted. I like to think of it as choosing yahoo mail vs hotmail. Both let you send emails and both have different looks and feature.
  Note I am like you and have no idea when it come to the technical stuff about this whole "federate" talk.

Sync was a popular 3rd party app for Reddit. With the change in Reddit TOS that prevents 3rd party apps from accessing the site the Dev is making a new app with the same name for Lemmy
It has nothing to do with reddit except that the developer's previous app (which was for reddit) was also named sync.
This is just going to be a good Lemmy app.

I'm also wondering what will be done about lemmy's wierdness about subscribing to subs, where you need to search up the sub on your instance etc.

Even sharing the comment discussions is useless if the recipient isn't already from the instance (probably are but many won't be obvs), the site won't let them comment unless they find the discussion mirrors on their own instance. So how will sync for lemmy deal with these eccentricities (that lemmy devs are also obvs going to deal with in the future)??

Yeah this is the wierd one. I still don't fully grasp how to work around, or with it, either.
- One cool thing I've discovered is that at least inside apps, those links with !!!exclamation marks to other subreddits work within the app and within your instance. So that's cool. Not sure if it works with comments, since they're a different structure.
