Sssssssssshhhhhhhhhhh.
My neighbours have a fig tree. In the morning, lorikeets come for breakfast. During the day, noisy miners, who seem to eat both the fruit and maybe pick off bugs? Then at night it’s possum and bat shift. I’ve also seen a butcher bird sitting in it with a skink in its beak. This tree is feeding a whole neighbourhood of wildlife. It’s lovely to see.
so cool 🤗
watch out for silver eyes, they love fig trees as well
I have several fig trees behind my house. Apart from animals, it attracts local old wogs who bring bags and ladders to get free fruit.
I usually stare at them from my kitchen window and make them uncomfortable.
Trees are on council land, but the oldies think they're mine.
woooo mate's workplace was decommissioning a site and junking everything in a "everything must go" rip down and he earmarked me a friggin' 50" hisense. Went over there to help him nab (and the whole rack cabinet he marked for himself)and discovered a box of Pine64 builds that were being tossed as ewaste. Builds, parts (like a dozen screens, motherboards, you name it) and a whole fuckin' box of about a thousand USB-mounted chips I also grabbed for another mutual friend big in building home automation.
Just googled the usb chips and they're fucking digispark attiny85 boards.
I have about a thousand of them. Not hyperbolic. He's creaming his fucking pants rn.
(I also nabbed some routers for conversion to openWRT for the mesh I want to build, got enough terabyte drives to finish off my proxmox at zero cost......and also the TV turned out to be 55 inches. oh nooooooooo)
How desperate do you have to be for coffee to rock up to the servo in your pjs and dirty 1970s dressing gown?
And no it wasn't me.
And here I was 3 days ago watching a 60+yo enthusiastic beer drinker in budgie smugglers buying sausages and bread at the local IGA and no one blinked an eye.
Beach town though so free pass to him.
enthusiastic and budgie smuggler shouldn't be in the same sentence
But you noticed. Had he been wearing appropriate attire you wouldn't be telling this story.
Did you see the guy on the news recently complaining about too many people (women, I think) wearing g-string bathers, and he didn’t want to see all the bums? It was on a beach in QLD, and somewhat off the beach too
anything goes at a servo.
Anything goes at the servo;
\
Old PJs with fluffy slippers,
\
Hair in rollers, buy that zippo!
\
Buy those overpriced lollies,
\
Classic, absolute ripper!
\
Rock up in a cosplay from 1970,
\
No judgement, you need that coffee.
\
Whether one is C-Suite or suitless,
\
Whether blue collar or white,
\
The servo is a safe place,
\
It'll sort you out, set you right!
I don't know. I think the minimum you can do is pop a jumper and a pair of pants on while mingling in society. I know my standards are high.
People could rock up in their undies and I wouldn't judge them. The servo is a safe space for any and all sartorial choices.
So it's ok to rock up to your work place in my sleepwear?
Comments below notwithstanding, I think it depends on context. My niece lived for a while in a flat near a servo, but there was a halfway house for mentally challenged people not far away. My niece rocked up to the servo in a dressing gown to get emergency milk late one night, and the staff at the servo locked the doors and kept her there chatting until the supervisor of the halfway house could get there and verify that she wasn't one of their clients.
NSW Police have so far been unable to locate the bodies of Luke and Jesse.
Clearly, the alleged murder is either staying silent or denying either his involvement or knowledge of their location.
It is a depraved enough act to commit murder, but to prolong the suffering of friends and family really makes it that much worse.
It does seem that the accused murderer is a very self-absorbed person - at least from the report on the abc. There's a nasty whiff of trial by media about this whole business.
So sad. They had so much life ahead of them. The murderer is probably unlikely to say anything in the hope he can get away with it. I will never understand the brains of domestic violence perpetrators. If I can’t have then, then I’ll kill them? It’s fucked up.
I have busted my brain trying to understand.
They have a different value system, they have different things going on in their brain.
What would make us sad makes them feel , not happy, but in control, safe and good.
It's just awful.
omg , that's me at 16 but I was blonde
the same awesomeness
I want to be her hot damn I wish I looked as stunning
I got fish & chips for me & the cat. The cat refused to eat the fish, usually his favourite thing. What could be going on:
I'm leaning towards option 3, but let's see where the night takes us.
4: the cat is a cat.
Among the many other things I did today, I bought new pyjamas.
I’m as cozy as it’s possible to be
New PJ day is a top 10 day.
You enjoy now.
I have marketed,I have thrown out my old balcony table (which was crumbling into non existence), I have watered my plants, I have put my washing on…
Productivity! Now I can chill for the afternoon!
So, White Mojo cafe in Eastland is lovely, but their coffee mugs are too small lol
Otherwise, a lovely lunch with Dad. Talked about the past and the future. I forget sometimes how alike we are.
I am glad it went well. Baby steps
Good news is little dog seems to love his new food. The big test is will this be good for his gut.

I've been thinking about something a lot lately:
When I see a Reddit post that has high engagement, 8/10 times it's a topic that's creating division in the comment section.
The more engagement, the more ad revenue for the site. Societal discourse is changed by the need for ad revenue. Advertising dollars shape society a lot more than I realised.
/Half asleep rant
Yet, it doesn't need to. These daily threads are easily the most active on aussie.zone, often among even the most active threads on all of Lemmy. And clearly they are not a place of division.
Engagement doesn't need to be about conflict and division. Nor does it have to be monetised.
That's a very good point, and it's why I love this place. An oasis from the eternal screaming match of the social internet space.
If it bleeds, it leads - the mantra of commercial television and quite a lot of the interwebs. And we've all been thoroughly brainwashed into accepting this as normal. One of the many reasons I don't have a television and won't be getting one.

I’m going to the market. Does anyone want anything?
A purpose in life
If you find out where it’s stocked, please let me know.
To market to market to buy a fat pig. Home again home again jiggety jig. Do they stock fat pigs at Vic Market? I can't recall seeing any. The most livestock I've seen there were ducklings and chicks. The fat pigs are already cut up I guess.
One of those spiral potato things
Hot jam donuts.
Fancy crumpets please.
Almond croissant please mum
Jam doughnut please!
Vera woud've solved that in 2 minutes hardly an episode.
Endeavour: Have you checked ballistics?
Forgetting to pick up the casings he left behind, which helped police narrow it down to a fellow police officer.
That, and his ex said he was being stalked by said police officer. Idk how he thought he'd get away with it.
I'm also going to assume he won't spill where he dumped their bodies, as an extra 'fuck you' to their families.
Also doesn't surprise me that it's a NSW police officer. They haven't exactly got a good name for themselves
Obviously didn’t pay attention in cop school.
Rule 1: don't commit crimes
What's a shop you like, not necessarily to buy anything just to browse in? I like an army disposal store.
Nothing recently, but man, back in the day, I loved getting on the tram at school, heading into the city, and hanging out in the Virgin Megastore - playing Sega games, then PS1, and listening to new cds on those headphone stations.
You just reminded me of stuff I'd totally forgotten about. Wagging school, buying ciggies and going to myers toy section to play video games.
Brashs back in the day when you couldn't afford anything but you still rummaged through the tapes to see what's new.

Boyo’s phone screen died. Pull out the back up which immediately dies too. He now has to suffer using my old i5 the poor thing 😹 sorry love, it’s that or the Nokia brick until you get your fixed. Xx.
I need a new pillow but I am confounded by the sheer choice. How does one go about actually choosing the right pillow in this year of our Lord 2024?
Ooh that's a fancy looking pillow
DunlolPillow almost always half price at harris scarf.
I found one I could afford at Target in the city lol. Other than that, I cannot assist further.
That approach (or alternatively the one a physio sold me once) has been my go to for all of my adult life....but I made the mistake of going online and being overwhelmed. I might just nick down to Bed Bath and Table tomorrow and pick one at random....
A question for dumpling affectionados; what's your favourite dipping sauce? I've got a bunch of dumplings and similar foods for a lunch tomorrow and need to make up some dipping sauces to serve with them.
Bought I love the poonsin viet spring roll sauce. Or hot XO. Otherwise a similar one is sugar syrup, reduced orange juice& chilli. Or soy with sesame oil. Plum is pretty good. As is a really hot chilli paste cut with good old dead horse and a dash of lime.
Can't go wrong with chilli, soy and mirin. Add chopped spring onions or sesame seeds if liked. Also, plain mayo is pretty good too - okonomiyaki vibes. Since I was gifted with the bottle of pomegranate molasses, I've been using that in dipping sauces instead of mirin and it sure packs a punch. Might have to find another bottle when this one runs out. Aldi sells a balsamic vinegar-based fig glaze that makes a nice dipping drizzling sauce too.
i like a mix of chili and soy for dumplings
for spring rolls it's chili sauce or spring roll sauce
Equal parts soy and rice wine vinegar and a bit of sesame oil on top.
Also some fresh chilli and spring onion or chives put them in it's great.
I like hoisin sauce but I'm very interested to hear others go to.
I like either black vinegar for fried dumplings, or a mix of soy and chilli for steamed. Mmmm yum dumplings.
I like the dumplings with Hot n Sour soup as a dip.
Infinite chilli and a bit of vinegar, garlic of it's on offer.
With so many dipping sauce ideas it was hard to make a choice, so I ended up making 4. I have a vinegar & ginger, vinegar soy & chlli, spring onion oil, and a gyoza sauce recipe that included pretty much everything - vinegar, soy, chili, garlic, ginger, spring onion, sesame seeds and sesame oil.
I also decided to make some satay sticks, so I also have a peanut sauce to go with them. The sauce worked out really well, I may be tempted to dip all the dumplings in that too!
It all took a bit longer than expected, but It's all done now - including a birthday cake for desert (plain vanilla) and I made a small extra cake so I'm enjoying a slice of that before bed.
I just did a whirlwind tour of all the nearby Asian shops. So many mysterious ingredients, including a bewildering array of dried fish products. I had no idea before today that fish powder exists.
Melbourne has some of the best Asian supermarkets, you can really get almost anything here.
It is fabulous to have them. My parents spent some time in Singapore and came back determined to recreate a version of satays, but there were very few ingredients available here back in the '80s. We had to make coconut milk by soaking dessicated coconut in boiling water and squeezing it. The only way we could get unsalted peanuts was to buy them still in the shell, so we had to start the sauce by sitting around shelling peanuts! It's all much simpler now.
Looking forward to the Elimination chamber.
Snoozy day today
Little kisses bestowed upon a furry little head!
Good morning precious!
