  • They can’t force local UI elements via server. That’s impossible to do with forks who decide against following server side requests.

  • That’s not how the GPL works. Any such agreements would be voluntary.

  • The beauty of open source is that there will be 3rd party clients that don't care about all of that.

  • Stark downfall after Ubuntu 8.10 'Intrepid Ibex'

  • Why don’t they just list within the steam store?

    Or gabe won’t let them?

Not even Steam Link is on Steam itself for whatever reason.

  • sadly, there are a lot of important newer x86 patents that are still years off

Basic x86_64 in hardware and software emulation of extensions is a more viable path than full x86 emulation on ARM. What we don't know if anybody is working on independent x86_64 CPUs.

  • x86_64 patents lapse sometime this year, btw

  • Anyone putting corporate technology into their bodies is just asking to get Black Mirror’ed.

Pace makers aren't made my anticapitalist cooperatives, you know.

  • There’s always something that doesn’t work unfortunately.

Usually NVidia drivers which is why I gave the heads up regarding them. SteamOS on compatible hardware is ready to use as much as it gets, definitively better than using Windows on any device that's not using keyboard and mouse as primary input. Again: That’s why sales of these are so low.

  • Not really on console-style hardware. That's why sales of these are so low.

If that's the intended use case of that notebook, Windows won't be any fun.

That said, I prefer not to touch Nividia with Linux myself after some trauma a couple of years ago.

  • It still doesn’t do anything to steer me toward a Switch 2 over a Steam Deck

Who's claiming that giving away your Deck is a necessity?

  • The gimmick gets more gimmicky.

No idea why you're so dismissive. Metroid Prime 4 with a proper mouse is a great outlook.

  • Any driver who gets to Formula 1 is clearly very good

Good at paying off the second seat drivers in the junior series to back off the competition to help Lance.

  • Its talking about the newer SteamOS 3.0

SteamOS 3.0 was released March 2022, so more than 3 years ago.

  • Is it? Or did they choose Arch because of the ease of setting it up with all the latest software the community was already packaging?

That's an illogical either or question because it's both. Valve moved from Debian to Arch because of its more recent upstream packages, yes, but Valve's upstream contributions in turn made Arch (and the other distributions) better for gaming.
