  • I understand that advertising and branding works. Some are more annoying than others, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter if it's a banner ad in a website, or a vinal decal on a truck. It is still an ad, and it's effectiveness at influencing our decisions is not none.

    The question was "when did you last see an ad?". I think my answer is fair. All the friggin' time.

  • I see hundreds of ads every day on almost every hat, T-shirt, shoe, hand bag, bus, bus stop enclosure, train, and car I pass throughout the day.

    Hell, my neighbor just had his house painted so I literally can't walk around the block without seeing an yard sign advertising a painting company.

  • Getting into rust is still on my to-do list, otherwise I've no major problem with pip or npm. They both have their flaws, but both work well enough to do what I need them for. If I had to prefer one it would be pip simply to sustain my passionate hate for all things JavaScript.

  • My brain always tries to convince me to eat greasy heavy food, but that never seems to help much. For some reason an apple always makes me feel much better. After that it's just headache drugs and time.

  • Python is my go-to in a lot of situations. Initially I really hated the "whitespace has meaning" feature of it. Now after more than a decade of using it, I've gotten used to it, but I still really dislike the the whitespace scoping.

    Everything else is great, I just miss my brackets.

  • It's a gradient, right? And there probably should be a line somewhere. A line where on one side is considered generally safe and the other side should be considered risky. If this needs regulation, how do we define the line, and what sort of limit should be put on it?

  • I don't mind grabbing my pitchfork and joining the "YouTube is already ruined party", but two thoughts first:

    That headline is so deliberately vague. It could literally be one employee who said "eh, I don't think YouTube shorts is a good idea".

    The article itself doesn't really give you any information that isn't in the headline. It feels like an attempt to stoke anti-YouTube sentiment without providing any useful information.

    ...okay, with that out of the way...

    Yeah, the current YouTube situation is pretty crap.

  • For most of my life I always hated the idea of exercise just for the sake of exercise. I would try to find activities where exercise was an associated benefit. Hiking, skateboarding, rock climbing etc. Eventually being an adult slowly killed all of my recreational fitness outlets and I ended up teetering on the edge of overweight.

    With the goal of getting back in shape, I tried a few gyms but I never got into it. It always felt like a chore. Turns out the problem for me was that I am a cheap bastard, and I was only considering the least expensive discount shitty gyms. One of my friends convinced me to try out a pricier more fully featured gym and it made a huge difference. Well maintained equipment, group classes, child care while you work out, showers that didn't scare me. It was a lot less intimidating, and it switched the gym experience from feeling like a chore to feeling like a break.

    It's been a couple years now, and I'll say, having once thought I'd never be a gym person, I'm now definitely a gym person.

    Not saying it'd be the same for everyone, just what ended up working for me.
