  • get distracted and exceed the speed limit by 1-2 km

Your cameras give you a fine if you exceed by even 1 km/h? That's insane. In my country it's about 6 km/h or so above the limit where you get a fine. Every car is different so the speedometer might not show the exact speed right on the needle, and they know that speeds can vary slightly. You could also be right in the middle of slowing down, which won't be noticeable in the instant of the measurement, so they add this margin of error of about 6 km/h.

I guess it's harder too if you don't have automatic speed control on the car. 🤷‍♂️ If the cameras and fines are this sensitive and you only have manual speed control (gas and break), and new cameras keep popping up all the time, I can definitely understand that you would want alerts of when there are speed cameras.

My car alerts me automatically so that's also am advantage I guess.

  • Holy crap. That showreel carousel on their homepage literally made my jaw drop. No, literally made it drop.

Thank you so much for introducing me to that; that looks like it's exactly what I've been dreaming about doing to my desktop for the last 15 or so years.

I owe you a beer or something.

  • I think you have a shot at this with eww […] it's harder to work with

Uh huh! 😆 I was running i3 for like a decade before very recently, and a couple of years ago I got tired of the limitations of polybar and I basically rewrote all of its functionality and the modules and behavior I wanted beyond that, in eww widgets. Took me a few months to get everything the way I wanted to have it, with rich media control widgets and weather widgets and i3 workspace control and styling and, and, and.

It was super possible! But it was clunky for sure. Lots of supporting scripts and lots of strongly coupled integration of those scripts and manually refreshing eww state data in my i3 config bindings.

I've been eyeing Aylur's Astal widget system as well, but I'm a little hesitant that it'll be more of the same—configuration by programming (which is fine), with big gains in functionality, but with little gain in terms of appearance.

  • Much appreciated! I'll use this as a sort of reference while I'm combing through the Waybar wiki and configuring my own. 😊👍

One thing I'm eager to get working is to somehow animate switching workspaces. I have my workspaces looking like little pills right now. Small, round circles. But I want the selected workspace to kind of expand and stretch into an elongated pill upon being selected.

Would you happen to know if this is at all possible or is it not worth attempting because it wouldn't be supported?

  • Alright man, I didn't mean for it to hit so hard. I'm just trying to help. I assumed you were English-speaking because they are honestly the ones to most often make that kind of mistake. 😄 Sorry if I offended you.

Anyway, I edited my first comment there, before you replied last. So the correct thing is there now. 👍 (It should be "than".)

    Love ya. 😙

  • That might be a bug or an oversight, but I don't feel like I need to explain this in order to maintain my stance on/preference for the unified colors. I like it, period. If there are bugs, I hope they get fixed. 🤷‍♂️

  • Off topic but god I hate those fake claw nails with a passion. I could realistically rant for several minutes about how ugly and bad they look.

Goddamn chewed up short ass nails look better than this.
