  • Sub link says it was an elderly employee. So that could mean either they were in dire straits with their own cost of living looking for $50k, they were working for a social outlet during retirement, or they hold a strong belief in a US that [didn't actually] existed for white people 25+ years ago... The first is more empathetic of course but i can't help but feel this is yet another "olds screwing the youngs" situation.

  • The landlord charges enough in monthly rent to cover mortgage, house maintenance, and provide profit. So the argument about it being a service to tenants is BS as the tenant could afford this on their own.

Landlords rely on the credit system for denial and cost of entry into property ownership to exploit tenants.

  • If im feeling very charitable and it's unclear whether the question is honest they get one answer/reply to show it.

If they're clearly baiting/trolling/negative then block is great because I'll never meet them in real life and they're not here to engage critically.

If they show thoughtful criticism then it's just a matter of whether i have the interest or energy to reply, which i often don't. If i do I'll engage as long as they seem thoughtful. The second i sense my mood faltering I'm closing the app. I can't have any more days ruined by random people on the internet. I'll most likely forget to reply after that.

  • Camping when a herd of very large deer passed through to wave us up after seeing bear tracks several miles back.

Also back in high school, the marching band bus on longer trips.

Back of my car in the crescent city Walmart parking lot after a Yosemite trip.

  • Win11 feels like a half built facade placed over the Win10 interface. For example, to compress a file from the right click menu you have to click "show more options" which just switches to the Win10 menu. Also, moving away from text in context menus and replacing with an inconsistently formatted icon only menu is an assault on the user IMO.

I don't feel like saying plasma 6 or gnome is cherry picking. Plasma, at least to me, feels very polished. The theme management is incredible, diverse, and easy too. I feel it's better aesthetically out of the box, but with negligible effort a theme can be installed to exceed commercial competition.

Windows 10 felt decently fleshed out and very clean, but often you still had to use the old control panel and other menus.

Android is clean and polished but limiting in customizability. Android UI apps seem to break completely every couple updates until the maintainer patches. There's no consistency between devices/manufacturers either.

I haven't used an Apple product since 2006 so i can't speak for those.

  • Many conversations with many different people. I can't recall as this was mostly a decade ago, before it all clicked for me that humans are diverse and nuanced and it's fine. My guess would be pronouns and wide net incel stuff. Not that i was particularly bad but deprogramming a Catholic suburban upbringing in american masculinity culture and propaganda is a monumental feat.

I think the fact that i was willing to listen, think critically, and engage in self doubt is what invited the conversations. Still, they were being very charitable with their energy and time.

I'm really grateful for that, especially after recognizing in not as cishet as i thought i was.

  • This is so real. It takes a LOT of effort and time to train this out. If someone isn't willing to go through that then it makes sense that it would fester.

I had lots of times when i was younger learning about queer culture when i got mad at things. Especially after an overly polite and patient person took the time and effort to explain something to me. Unlearning hate is painful. Learning to liberate yourself is painful.

I think a lot of people feel that pain and decide to run from it and double down on the hate because that way they don't need to learn and change or pry open their mind to an alternative.

Then there's the whole fear of conflicting with your own community as a factor.

  • Same.

While i believe they would have the resources to do this technically, i think voter suppression from the right, the failures in the biden/harris whitehouse, and plane old racism/misogyny is a rather solid argument.

The lack of leaks from these absolute colanders is really hard to believe.
