  • I have major high blood pressure, but my heart has always raced. When I was a kid doctors couldn't figure out why. They said I have tachycardia and irregular rhythms, but otherwise was healthy. I've tried blood pressure meds, but they don't work and only upset my GI tract tot he point that I'm in the bathroom 12 hours a day (even on low doses).

So I just race, I race and race and I suppose some day i'll burn out and fall over. And I don't even get a medal for finishing the race.

  • I don't think it's punishment to make people follow sensible speed limits, at least it SHOULDN'T feel like a punishment. Like I said, those limits aren't there just to make life inconvenient. Frankly I don't see why people behave like driving is a race to a finish line.

I'd rather think that we should educate people better in the first place, instead of waiting and then punishing them. But in Utah, people do not listen and do not have the responsibility to drive with care and caution. What do you do when people just refuse to do what's right?

  • Yep I think so. And I'm pretty law-abiding, which makes me an enemy in the eyes of other people for some reason. Personally I think it's imperative to act responsibly as a driver and obey the speed limits and take weather and road conditions into account.

I know that all seems kind of "no duh" but you wouldn't believe how many people in Utah speed through lights and intersections and construction and school zones as if their asses were on fire. Really, nothing so far has helped stop the excessive speeding.

  • Such a sad and disgusting concept, that humans should ever be punished for having gained enlightenment. Another reason I could never accept such horrifying ideas, what sort of god would allow that to be the case. That's terrible.

  • Well that's terrible enough, but I thought this method of execution was the prisoner's own choice? Wasn't he the one campaigning to be executed by nitrogen gas in the first place? I know they tried to execute him once before by lethal injection and spent four hours trying unsuccessfully to get the needle into his veins.

So maybe 22 minutes isn't so inhumane compared to 4 hours of being stabbed with a needle. Not that any death is ever a pleasant experience.

  • Hmm. I'm always crusading for people to slow down and stop being in such a frantic hurry all the damn time. In Utah, people go 85 in school zones (in fact 125 in some cases) and kids are being killed every day because of it.

Is 10 mph over the speed limit too much speed? I don't know, but I know that too many people drive as IF they were having a life-threatening medical emergency rather than following safe speed limits. If the weather is good and the road is clear, it's fine to go a few miles an hour over the speed limit.

But, speed limits aren't there just to make your life inconvenient. There's a reason they deem some zones safer for going faster than others, usually because of residential areas having lots of kids around, etc. Speed limits aren't just arbitrary.

In some places where drivers are not usually exceeding the speed limit I can see where this could be a nuisance. But in Utah, where almost nobody drives at a sane speed, and people go WAY over what could be called acceptable levels of speed, nothing else has worked to slow drivers down. So, this seems like it could be a real step in the right direction.

If people WON'T do the right thing, should we FORCE them to, especially if it saves lives? That's the question.

  • I've tried that and the "2 minute" trick of blanking out your mind or just repeating a mindless phrase over and over. But it doesn't work for me. Even when I can quiet my mind, I'm still awake for a couple of hours - I just don't get sleepy and I don't feel a desire to sleep, so it's hard to force myself into it.

  • It's like the pot going after the kettle for being too black. Nikki Haley may be a little easier on the ears and the eyes, but she's still a spineless repuglican coward. Even USA Today called her that and said if she wasn't a coward, she's be brave enough to call out trump for being a rapist, a woman-hater, a traitor to America, a thief, a liar, and all the rest.

She never will. She's too spineless and she's too much a puppet of right-wing nutjobbery.

  • Well I'm not religious and to me all of it is nonsense, so there's no actual god or satan or jesus. But to me, Satan would be the one who keeps you FROM knowledge and understanding, and the one who fills the world with misinformation.

Any god worth being called a "god" would want you to love yourself and do the things that make you happy. And that is not trump or his followers. They DO want you to live in subjugation to their desires. Call it by whatever name, it is inhumane and to me, it's insane to want trump back in public office.

  • Wow I went bit over the top didn't I. I shouldn't have said we need to wipe the whole state off the face of the earth. Just the bloodthirsty ones.

I'm not sure Israeli people are to blame, but the government certainly is. And it seems there is no way to get better people into office there.

  • That's a big part of my problem, I can't turn my thoughts off, my mind races all the time. I follow a very set routine (I have for decades) for bedtime, I shower and brush my teeth and floss and get myself physically ready, but my mind just won't relax. But my heart also races, so -- it takes forever to get to a sleepy place.

  • Probably fairly sleep deprived. I'm older now, but I never did fall asleep easily. And I've always had night terrors and violent nightmares, so I wake up in panic most of the time, and it takes hours for my heart rate to go down enough to fall asleep again.

I guess I average 4 to 5 hours of sleep on a good night. But, I don't feel sleepy during the day, my heart races all day long also, I think I'm just built not to be able to settle down.

  • Jesus H. Fuckin Christ almighty, we human beings are fucked up. A simple common sense concept such as getting people vaccinated against a pandemic disease turns into a huge political global firestorm about control and sovereignty and other ridiculously unimportant crappola, not to mention all the fucked up misinformation spread by evil corrupt people. I really believe we must innoculate the human race most effectively by simply nuking everyone to death and doing away with human beings for good. People are evil and stupid and without any hope of redemption.

  • I hope this means we are closer to nuclear annihilation than ever before. Humans have ruined the earth, and themselves. There is no possibility for peace or peaceful coexistence - and really, there never was. The best solution that humans can hope for now is total extinction and eradication.

I've had more dreams of nuclear bombs falling lately. I can see how it will happen, suddenly without warning with a feeling of immense anger that we had and never have had any control over what happens to us. I see the structures and homes around us burning and swept away by immense winds of heat and people melted to the ground.

This is how it WILL end for us all, sooner or later. I for one don't particularly want to see us drag it out any longer than necessary.
