  • Damn thank you for inspiring me, I saw the '3d print case' and was like ehh, but thinking about making a wood case for this sounds sick.

  • It sounds wild to think about making your own electronic device, but after getting into woodworking I think it could be simpler to build this than a quality birdhouse lol.

  • It's designed to be build-able by anyone and extensible, so it should be repairable by the average consumer. You can just hack kindle hardware as long as the device works but this project is trying to actually build something more sustainable.

  • You are turned away from the Palestinian cause because of this? What is the 'Palestinian cause' to you? You are saying you support the view that an entire population should be eradicated or forced from their homes, because a group of militants among their population of millions committed acts of terror.

  • So Jewish anti-Zionists are just self-hating antisemites then? Would you rather people call themselves 'anti-Israel?' I can support the Jewish people and also believe that it was wrong to unilaterally force a people out of their home, force them into small territories and bomb them for decades.

2- Israel should cease to exist by making all Israelis leave their country

Why is the only solution a mass displacement or genocide? 'Zion' and 'Israel' are constructs, like all nation-states, a new political paradigm can be created without another Nakba or Holocaust.

  • He can't do anything, I still think it is useful for him to make statements such as this. The propaganda machine is in full force, if average people see these sort of comments they might take a moment to think critically about the situation instead of condoning a full-on carpet bombing campaign.

  • I hadn't been on there in a while, just wanted to see what was up and browsed a comment section and felt like I needed to talk to a therapist after. That wasn't even a pro-Israel subreddit. Though I noticed there were a decent number of highly upvoted posts with pro-Palestine information or highlighting the atrocious nature of Israel's response, it wasn't quite as one-sided as I was expecting.

  • It's pretty funny to think, living in the US, nothing is odd about a privately employed person with a gun guarding groceries or people being violently arrested when they steal said groceries out of necessity.

  • True, the store security usually didn't actually do anything, the police would be doing that while the security talks to them, but on two occasions I did see the security tackle a person.

  • "And also I'm specifically going to flail my arms where I told you to move out of my way." Whatever side of the issue people are on, there is clear evidence the IDF are murderers, they are slaughtering as many Palestinians they can while they think they can get away with it.

  • The grocery store in my city became straight dystopian. It was always a sort of sketchy area but nothing that bad. After the pandemic, they added a second armed, vested private security in black, one-way turnstiles going in and out, increased cameras with screens on every aisle that showed you with the words "RECORDING IN PROGRESS". They even added locks to the frozen section, so you had to get an employee to help you buy ice cream. The police and security would tackle clearly unwell people who were shoplifting food, face pushed into the concrete type of thing.

  • What do you mean by cutting off connections? To escape this hellhole we need connections more than ever, some people can manage to survive on their own off the land but humanity works better together. Our economies and societal structures are enforced by parasites but there are many people that want to build positive things.

  • If your workplace has good safety standards it's not as much of a problem these days, I'd rather wear a respirator at my job working with fumes and dust than sit at a desk all day and fuck my back and eyes up. Though I'm fucking my back up too probably, but if you don't overwork yourself and use proper techniques even manual labor doesn't have to be so bad for your body.

  • In case any reads this as affirming their belief that communists are fans of genocide, other communists from Vietnam invaded Cambodia and stopped the genocide referred to by the 'killing fields.'

  • Palestinian militants take IDF soldiers captive so they can exchange them for their own that are being held captive in Israel.

  • The Democratic party makes better decisions to keep the country functioning for the most part, and may help the working class more than the opposing party by sometimes increasing welfare, access to healthcare, and civil/human rights, but they are both firmly beholden to the elite in the US that exploit the working class. The dems have had the presidency, but it's been rare that either party has a large majority control of government, so most progress is stalled by the opposing party.

Like someone else mentioned, if you are from Europe, it helps to think of both of our parties as right-wing parties, or center to center-right and right.

  • The only 'tankies accusing' anything I saw in the convo were people mentioning that "marriage is a patriarchal institution", which I don't see how that is calling you a transphobe even if you disagree. Someone did mention trans people don't care about marriage because they are being murdered, maybe that is what you are referring to, it really didn't come off to me like anyone was calling you a transphobe but maybe I'm wrong. I didn't see anyone say that you couldn't be married, or that people can't enjoy having a marriage, to me that is separate from critique of marriage as a patriarchal institution. But yeah, I don't know why anyone would defend a state for anything. That's part of why I do feel the need to engage with more 'state-friendly' socialists, to figure out what about it seems necessary to them, or if there is some greater flaw with my anti-state belief.
