  • Genocide is action or intent to destroy a people in whole or in part because of their status as a member of that group. Israeli officials have made it clear numerous times that their ultimate goal is the removal of the Palestinian people from Palestine, which will result in mass death and destruction of their culture. This is textbook genocide.

  • It's not though, that is just false. No one in good faith will deny that a country has a right to defend themselves from an attack.

  • A lot of us believe in Palestinian's right to defend themselves as well. I work in a city, among many people that have no idea what Lemmy even is, there is a Palestinian flag on my work's building and we feel grief at the atrocities committed by Israel. You're right it isn't cut and dry, but the support for Israel is at the lowest I have ever seen in my life.

  • So instead of just not voting and pussy-ing out encourage yourself and others to do more than just abstain. Voting is only one basic step for a society, we need to take real actions to make the change we want. Part of pussy-ing out is the idea that voting is all we can do, and now that voting seems useless we are just boned. There have always been people on the ground agitating for the real progress.

  • Hundreds of thousands of people that died from covid likely would have lived had anyone else been in office, even other Republicans. If I was a law and order type I'd say Trump should be hanged for mass murder. But you could say the same of Biden when looking at his political history really.

  • I think people are finally asking themselves "If I'm voting for a lesser evil, and every vote of my lifetime has been a vote for 'lesser evil', is it the ruling class itself that is evil?"

  • People saying how can the US support genocide, the question is how can we stop them from supporting a genocide?

  • A little bit, like saying German citizens were responsible for the holocaust for not standing up against the Nazis. They should have but when faced with violent repression you don't necessarily blame them for not doing more. There is widespread knowledge of the military-industrial complex and the global stream of death for profit, but how many people are blocking ports to stop weapons shipments? We can vote for whoever but there is so much more that needs to be done.

  • Fair enough, my apologies, that in itself does not prove a genocidal intent. This whole semantic discussion does seem a little useless to me though when there are thousands of people being massacred currently. It only serves to legitimize the actions of Israel.

  • Did they ever cry or say it wasn't their fault? It seems like an obvious easy way to get banned, I don't see any complaints about it. I don't think calling an asshole an asshole is an unhealthy environment, I would blame the asshole first for being the asshole.

  • I can't be the only one that more and more sees 'growth' as a disease for a company or institution.

  • What are people using Reddit for? Why does Lemmy have to continue to grow to be a viable alternative? It needs a certain critical mass but it seems to be at that point at least. The number of new users and daily users went down from the first peak after the Reddit exodus but that's to be expected, what I've heard last is the numbers aren't dropping rapidly but just the usual attrition of the wave of users. From my instance the communities I frequent are more than active enough for me, I'm able to see any news that would be relevant as quickly as any other social media, I can discuss things in communities that feel welcoming to me as a queer socialist that I could hardly find on Reddit.

  • Am I crazy or did the number of bots and 'new users' ramp up quite a bit around the protest also? Moderation was basically nonexistent, I would see obvious bots and trolls stay around when they would have been banned in no time before. I find it hard to trust any data on Reddit.

  • I hope you keep posting again sometime, shit will get downvoted for stupid reasons, I don't blame you though I probably would have stopped too because of my shame lol. Even the best poster will have those posts that get hated too.

  • It's like the camel that was crushed due to a single piece of straw, who knew just one little bit of straw could break a camel's back.

  • I have Samson headphones that I notice the build/material quality is a bit nicer than Anker, I had the Life Q20 and they fell apart, but that was after something like two years of rough use, although the actual speaker and electronics work fine and holds a charge. But yeah for the price I haven't seen any other brand perform as well.

  • I like the physical plug for display port more too. Is it just because there isn't some LLC pushing adoption of display port like there is for HDMI?

  • I don't know enough about this really to speak on it, but I think if there was a problem with encryption, a person could spoof a connection to your device and get your passwords or other data maybe. There was a big data leak a few years ago from someone getting into a network through a smart fridge or similar device because of weak security standards.

  • Thank you, I was almost feeling a tinge of sympathy for Sony then I remembered, these businesses have centuries of practice in deceit and any actual benefit that comes to users is incidental to their only actual goal of maximizing profit.

  • If anyone reading this is considering cheaper Sony bluetooth headphones versus the comparable Anker product, go with Anker! The speaker and a few models of headphones I've used were much better and cheaper than the comparable Sony product.
