  • I'm sick of hearing people say "there are no good guys" in this war, what does that even mean to you?

  • They have killed more civilians than Hamas has members.

  • Unfortunately in the US many trans and trans-supporting people do view guns as potentially necessary. Glorification of trans murder is common among the right-wing here and they definitely are armed.

  • I loved Veep, it's hilarious to me watching it now that basically any scandal on that show would be completely innocuous compared to what we have been dealing with since it ended.

  • I can't imagine a better response even if she knew what he meant. "What do you mean Donald? Our meeting is Wednesday, did you forget?"

  • I don't have that experience, I've seen a lot of the same users many times. A lot of people come here as a first step into the fediverse also. I first heard of Lemmy.world after trying to find a better reddit alternative, I may have made an account, but found a different federated instance that was more to my liking.

  • I feel insulted every time Windows has some sort of pop-up or notification that is obviously manipulative, like making it appear that I HAVE to make Edge my default browser and putting ads for Edge and other Microsoft products on the lock screen disguised as 'fun facts'. The people making these decisions don't respect the autonomy of people, they want to force us into habits that benefit Microsoft to the detriment of the user.

  • It could be a difference in our countries, in the US we learn a LOT about the holocaust and Nazism, WW2, etc, so most people I know politically aware will go out of their way to assure you that they are not speaking about Judaism in general. Who are these 'many on the left' being antisemitic? I simply haven't seen that, not any more than it might have occurred before this current war, which was rare. It doesn't seem difficult for most to separate the actions of a violent organization like the IDF and right-wing Israeli officials from Jewish people in general.

  • Older people have had more history with the term, seeing people burn their bras in the 70s for example. My uncle, around 60, said he loved feminism because it was great when women starting not wearing bras and dressing in more revealing things haha.

I can't imagine being born after Youtube and Facebook were created. Propaganda through media is incessant and young people have been subjected to the most potent forms for their entire lives.

  • Yeah bots can downvote, I'm saying it's easy to say something was downvoted because of bots, there is no way to prove it right or wrong. It's also very possible that many actual people disagree with the comment.

  • People disagreeing doesn't mean they are bots automatically, posts defending the IDF get downvoted because there is more than ample evidence of the IDF committing some of the worst atrocities I've seen in my life, and they have been doing it for years.

There is a slightly more global perspective here than Reddit so it's less common that there will be echo chambers supporting Western propaganda. People falling for Israeli propaganda today haven't been paying attention, or they agree with Israels goal of eliminating Palestine. Anyone that has been looking into the situation for longer than a few years has seen every line, every spin, every rationalization Israel can make.

  • You got your sides mixed up, it's been 80 years of terrorism, subjugation, blockades, land grabs, against the Palestinian people, and the Palestinians have a right to ensure their security. Have you considered why Israel needs to 'defend itself'? Why do you think Palestinian people have been fighting for 80 years?

  • What does yours and your fiance's religious differences have to do with it? Many Jewish people think the Israeli state is violent and illegitimate. There maybe some shills here, but is it possible that there are just more users aware of the history than you are used to? A lot of users are here because they don't buy into the Western propaganda that inundates Reddit and most English media, not that we are anti-west shills. There are many perspectives in the world outside of the US and western countries, millions of people are in agreement in their desire for Palestinian freedom and the end of Israeli state genocide.

  • He isn't representative of conservatives as a whole, but the rhetoric pushed by many prominent Republicans is exactly the sort of propaganda to inspire these actions.

  • Well if it helps ease your mind, he is clearly mentally unwell, not any sort of organization planning strategic moves. Similar murders have happened for a while.

  • I didn't say the US was fascist, I'm saying our world is controlled by hoards of wealth and nearly all state actions are to protect that wealth and the people that hold it at the cost of the well-being of the proletariat.

  • We live under a hostile occupation by security forces employed by the wealthy class, there are deaths everyday due to the systems maintained by wealth and greed.

  • It's always "this small test just wouldn't work on a larger scale, so let's never try at all."

  • The same is true of a lot of average apartment buildings, especially college housing, but they are rigourously maintained by staff.

Public housing in the US is rarely funded enough or maintained properly. It's almost a cliche in the US, municipalities purposely underfund public programs so they fail, to encourage privatization.
