  • A win is when we have forced them to abandon the wretched plan. Them taking it elsewhere with a different name, only to be brought back in the future isn't a win - it's more or less the folly the Trojans committed with the Greek wooden horse.

  • The Radium girls were from the 1920s or even before that. While they didn't know about the dangers that the Radium paint posed to them, their employers certainly did. Not only did those companies hide the truth from the women, they actively sabotaged any efforts to identify the problem and hold them responsible. These weasels went so far as to secretly pay the doctors around to falsely diagnose the women with syphilis instead of radiation poisoning - in an attempt to destroy their reputation and discredit them. The reckless use of radioactive substances back then wasn't entirely unintentional or based on innocent motives.

The action those women took was a revolution in workers' rights. But the moral of the story is, if a company can make money by subjecting you to hidden, but mortal dangers, they will - no matter how fatal that danger is. Then they will use a portion of that money to destroy your image and pin the blame on you. This tendency is even stronger today than it was back then. It was radiation back then - today there are a dozen other problems - lead, microplastics, PFAS and God knows what else.

  • I think he's doing it, because he has no other option. This valuation is based on the equity he offered to the employees. And I don't think he would risk lying about it, since his relations with the SEC are already sour.

  • I assume that the valuation is what Elon can expect to recoup if he were to liquidate (sell off) Twitter for some reason. Even if he didn't, the amount is going to make it to the balance sheet of his lenders - representing a loss in the deal.

  • The first thing that we all need to change is letting rich corporations decide what's legal and what's illegal. If using an alternative frontend can be considered illegal, then these corporations are guilty of crimes that would get them guillotined.

  • A vast majority of those millions are going to be for the identity rather than just the relevant data. Meanwhile, the genetic profiling companies, drug companies and insurance companies are sociopathic enough to lie through their noses about it.

I have a strong feeling that the data transfer has already happened through data brokers. They are just easing the public into acceptance.

  • Do you realize that you don't need to volunteer at all? Do you know that there was a rape and murder case that was proven using data from a similar (same?) company? They found a bunch of people with DNA similar to that from the rape kit and went on to find their common relative.

The story above may sound good. But it won't be too hard for medical insurance companies to deduce your approximate genetic profile based on the samples submitted by your relatives.

Even worse, it doesn't take a lot of genetic material these days to profile you. The PCR technique (the same used for Covid-19 screening) can amplify samples. You may have submitted a blood sample at some point in the last few years. How would you know if a tiny bit of that was siphoned off to create an exact genetic profile of yours?

  • TBH, 26.3 billion dollars are just a drop in the bucket for Google. That bucket of course filled with the money they got with industrial scale spying, cross-site tracking, denial of control, forced ads, destruction of competition, among countless dirty tricks they play on regular netizens.

  • Oh yeah! All these capitalist scum pitching hustle culture to youngsters so that they can go from being very rich to being stinking rich.

Why exactly don't we have a hall of shame to showcase parasites like these?
