  • Because you already provided the context needed to make a positive contribution to the discussion and avoid misunderstandings, right?

    Right?

  • I disagree. Ignorance is based on a lack of knowledge or awareness. Stupidity is when you double down on what you think you know, and you're not willing to be proven wrong.

Ignorance can be cured. Stupidity is too-often not.

  • Yes, thank you for the "both sides" nonsense.

  • Except we're not operating under democratic rule. Our democracy is under assault from a conservative minority that is determined to block any attempt to utilize government for the public good. How many comments have been lambasting Democrats for failing to do enough, no matter what they tried? Are you proposing we just give up and abandon democracy because we shouldn't do everything in our power to counter the unprecedented methods Republicans are using to shut us down? Are you arguing for accelerationism?

  • I feel it's important to point out that gullible and mentally ill should not be conflated. He's an easy mark for Trump's rhetoric, a sheep eager to be fleeced. That doesn't mean he has a mental disorder.

  • They think they're ready. That's why they're pulling the trigger on this, and damn the consequences.

  • They're living in gated communities with tall walls and private police forces. As long as they promise their mercenary armies a cut of the spoils, they're not worried about continuing to control resources. They don't need to be physically hard, they're sociopathic enough to justify any cruelty to anyone they want in order to get their way. They're all sure they'll become royalty in the new order, if not the king/queen of their domain.

They have a plan, and they've gathered the means to accomplish their goals. What remains to be seen is how well their defenses will stand up in the ensuing chaos.

  • That's why they've been stacking the courts with conservative activists for so long, so they could get a majority that would go along with these paper-thin justifications for completely changing our society from the top down.

  • Control over food, housing, entertainment, and other non-monetary valuables. Then they can start printing their own script to pay their mercenary forces.

  • Yes. That's why they're doing it. They want to destroy the government so they can convince us to replace it with the feudal society they have in mind. They think they have enough control over sufficient resources that they'll be safe from any violence you might offer thanks to their private armies.

  • I wasn't assuming you were criticizing anything but Republican behavior. I merely wanted to add on to your comment.

  • You're talking about polling conducted eleven months ahead of the general election. Whatever you think you're doing, you're not participating in an adult conversation.

    Goodbye.

  • Just to clarify, I do want to hold Republicans to the same standards. I want their accountability to be conducted through electoral defeats and removing them from power. As difficult as it is to reform the Democrats into the progressive party we need them to be, such a feat is impossible with modern Republicans.

  • Pelosi was dealing with the Blue Dogs, conservatives who were elected as Democrats. We didn't have a progressive majority, we had a Democratic majority. And we still managed to get a record amount of progressive legislation through the House, where it went to die in the Senate thanks to the precedent-breaking tactic of filibustering everything Democrats tried to pass.

Two weeks during a holiday break was not enough to accomplish every single policy goal you expect. Pay attention and stop blaming Democrats for having to deal with complications instead of assuming they wielded total and unrestricted power. Because they never did, and probably never will.

  • Funny how Biden turned out to be a lot less centrist than we were expecting. The pendulum is swinging left, and if we don't keep pushing in the right direction the progress will stop. Just because we're not getting everything we want right now doesn't mean we're not in the process of getting there. So stop bitching about how you don't have the perfect candidate right now. Vote in the primaries for the most progressive candidates you can find, and then in the general election vote for the best candidate, even if it's not your preferred choice.

Adulthood is about dealing with the world as it is, not the world we insist we should have. We have to be the adults in the room when no one else is willing.
