  • It just feels like team red use him as an attack vector to hit President Biden, which is kinda sad.

That's all it ever was. If a similar investigation were conducted into their family members, I'm pretty sure they'd catch a lot more like him. The difference is that Republicans are trying desperately to prove that Joe Biden was actively participating in his son's schemes, and so far they've been unable to find anything. I doubt a similar inquiry into their own affairs would come back clean.

  • Hopefully that'll be the end of his political career, but I know I'll be disappointed.

  • From the inside it's enough to cause panic attacks.

  • On the other hand, trump is probably going to try that kind of thing anyway.

Correct. According to Project 2025, they'll use an old provision in the Constitution to justify using the military to round up anyone who they deem a dissenter. I think there's a later law that prohibits the deployment of troops on American soil, but they're confident they'll have the courts on their side.

    Found it.

  • Yup. Same question.

I don't really expect an answer.

  • They tried changing the rules, but were blocked by Manchin and Sinema. Were you asleep at the time?

  • The very first one describes the steps they took in the fifties to regain power by collapsing our government. This is the culmination of their plan. Did you think they had no end game?

  • People like this seem to need to have someone who projects confidence and strength (at least as far as they see it) to follow. It eases their feelings of insecurity, which conservatives prey on.

I have reason to think that religion works the same way.

  • This is one issue where I get angry with the democrats. They could have stacked the courts a long ass time ago and prevented shit like this.

When? They pushed through candidates when they could, but they had to change the Senate rules during the Obama administration just to end Republican filibusters on non-controversial nominees. The news was all over both the backlog of empty seats and the need for Democrats to change the rules just to get what nominees they could past Republicans.

And of course, that ended once Republicans took the Senate.

  • You can still say that after being proven wrong about a specific topic you brought up that they're still fighting.

My point is made. I'm out.

  • So, doing something is the same as doing nothing. May as well give up and admit the party that's fighting to help people is just the same as the party looking to fuck us all over.

Maybe I really am in the wrong community, if you represent it.

  • Yes, I'm aware that Republicans have successfully blocked student loan forgiveness to date. But according to you, the fight is over. Even though Biden is still fighting to find a way to make it happen. You're blaming Democrats for the consequences of Republican obstruction, and I honestly don't know how you could be that dishonest and still show your face.

  • The Tea Party originally formed out of protests over the handling of the 2007 market crash. It was quickly seized on and astroturfed by conservative backers like the Koch brothers and turned into a racist movement that objected to a black president.

  • He does like to try to pretend he doesn't bear any responsibility for this lawless, authoritarian trend we're struggling against.

  • If only. The Justice Department is focused on Trump as the ringleader. That doesn't mean all the architects have been identified. Eastman hasn't attempted a plea deal so far as I've seen, so there's hope that at least some of them will end up in prison. Assuming, of course, that Trump doesn't manage to get back into office and pardon them all or just make the indictments go away.

  • Oh look, a different thread! That sure clarifies things

  • Because they have a plan to declare him the winner no matter what. And he pulled an upset victory before, so they're sure he can do it again. Far too many Republicans will vote for him and the fascism he promises simply because they're conditioned to believe that anything Republican is automatically better than a Democrat in office. So they'll either vote (R) the way they're supposed to, or they'll stay home. The latter being preferable, in my opinion, but too many will do the former. Some will justify it by saying "he won't really do fascism! That's just fearmongering!" And then give the Pikachu surprised face when he does it anyway.
