  • No one is calling the Democrats perfect or suggesting they couldn't be better. But they are demonstrably better than the GOP, even if that's a low bar. They consistently pass legislation and enact policies to the benefit of the whole nation, not just the donor class.

When the complaint is that they're not good enough, they're being blamed for not catering exclusively to the progressive base the way Republicans cater to theirs. Which refutes the notion that "both sides are the same" on its own.

Yes, we should hold their feet to the fire and convince them to do better. But we should do it without boosting Republican talking points like "both sides." Better to say "they're good, but they could be better."

  • Sure, innocent until proven guilty. But the trend has been pretty consistent to the point that the accusation is highly credible and worth investigating.

  • Every accusation from them is a confession. This statement holds true more often than not.

  • Why is there a post from Fox News? I thought we only wanted legitimate news sources.

  • You don't have to vote for the status quo, you could shake it up and put someone in there who isn't a complete shit-bag.

But that's not how Texas does things. They only make things worse and call it freedom.

  • He shouldn't have been the nominee in 2016, either. It's not safe to assume anything at this point.

  • Yup. It's definitely all about you.

    Bye.

  • Yay, more "both sides" bullshit!

Yup, Biden is absolutely the same as Trump. Nothing progressive has come out of his administration at all.

  • He's under an injunction against quietly transferring funds around in case he tries to hide it. Let's be honest, he probably has accounts he hasn't declared that should be accounted for. If it's a legitimate expense all he had to do was let the observer know what he was doing and why. But instead he did it hoping it wouldn't be noticed.

    He's a moron.

  • They're not allowed to get caught lying. A distinction that he's been struggling to find lawyers willing to make.

  • It's not about his base abandoning him because he's no longer a billionaire (if he ever was) or a real estate tycoon. It's that he's built his identity around these things, and that court case could strip him of it.

  • Sadly, yes. Even a lot of people who talked about how dangerous he was while they worked in his administration aren't willing to commit to voting for Biden over Trump if it comes down to them in the general election.

  • Sadly, the Constitution is very vague on this point. They could impeach him for the color of his tie if they wanted. What history would say about that vote is a secondary concern to them.

I'm pretty sure that even Preacher Speaker Johnson knows this is a political loser for them. It's purely red meat for their base, and it'll piss off the other two-thirds of the voting public. But given the dysfunction in the House right now, he might not have much choice.

  • It's pure posing, trying to pin the blame on Democrats for not accomplishing the impossible. The article lays out how they're not even trying to pretend they're negotiating in good faith. FTA:

In another absurdity, Republicans have said publicly that Democrats must agree to reduce illegal border crossings by more than 50 percent. But that’s a fuzzy demand: It’s unclear how policy changes could dramatically slash the number who attempt to enter and simply get intercepted by law enforcement. When Democratic staffers sought clarification on this point, the sources say, they got nothing back.

    Also:

What’s really bizarre about the impasse is that Republicans should support much of what’s in Biden’s initial request for border security funding. After all, it would also fund expedited asylum processing, which could reduce the window for migrants to exploit the system and prompt faster removals for those who don’t qualify. Aren’t those things Republicans want?

  • No, because taxes aren't levied until after estates are transferred or dividends are paid. Yes, the idea has been out there for a while and there are very good economic and social reasons to impose wealth taxes that other nations have already figured out and implemented, but we're...exceptional. So exceptional that we'll let our exceptionalism drive us into the ground.

  • That's why they're planning it. There's plenty of law and precedent against it, but they know all they need is the thinnest veneer of an excuse to get their partisan justices to rule in their favor.

  • Most of them have seen what he has to force down their throats. Some of them are probably salivating at the thought.
