EA is seemingly hiring for a third Star Wars Jedi game

  • They did market it, but it just didn't resonate with everybody and looked like a rehash of every other Pixar movie on first glance. Normally I'd see it anyways but Pixar has dropped the ball many times that I'm not very interested in what they put out recently.

  • Still patiently waiting for the PC port, but I am a bit weary at how much it lacks RPG features from everything I've heard. Even Final Fantasy 7 Remake had a lot of build variety and a few different weapons.

  • You forgot the kids jumping on the floor at 7 am

  • Reddit had ways to automatically catch people trying to manipulate votes though, at least the obvious ones. A friend of mine posted a reddit link for everyone to upvote on our group and got temporarily suspended for vote manipulation like an hour later. I don't know if something like that can be implemented in the Fediverse but some people on github suggested a way for instances to share to other instances how trusted/distrusted a user or instance is.

  • Kingdom Hearts feels like a series I would be all over with considering how much I loved Disney and liked Final Fantasy. Shame I never really got around to playing it.

  • On the scale of games that are more fun with friends, Siege is definitely on the top. I play the game exclusively with friends and it's sooo fun. Having a full squad especially feels great to have everyone communicate well and have fun.

On the other have solo queuing is a painful experience. Aside from the toxicity, the game feels kind of pointless when nobody has your back.

  • Great read and I love the angle you're taking, having the community vote for it is a great idea even if the answer is fairly predictable. Hope other instance admins follow suit.

but hopefully FB takes a while longer to implement federation.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Companies are pretty slow to implement big changes, and when they do federate I doubt they'll initially federate with anything other than major mastodon instances and test the waters.

  • I knew that was reminding me of something! Been like 6 years since I've played good old CK2.

    1. The Mitchells vs the Machines

It's a solid list but this is such a jarring entry for me lol. I would not put this above Ex Machina, AI, Blade Runner, Wall-E, The Matrix...

  • God bless Wine developers for making Linux 10x more viable to use for me.

  • I'm like 90% sure this game has an accessibility option to disable quick time events. Uncharted 4 had it, I believe.

  • It's not a bad game but it's easily the most overhyped game I've played this year. I'd describe it as a super generic RPG with a Harry Potter skin. The best thing I can say about it is that the game is very pretty. Hogwarts itself is lively and is pretty fun to walk around in. Everything else, though, is just sooooo generic.

Let's start with the magic system itself: In combat it literally boils down to using the right color on the right enemy. If an enemy has a red shield, use fire. If an enemy has a yellow shield, use your yellow ability. Other than that, just spam your magic until they die. You can dodge but enemies are usually pretty simple and telegraph their attacks hard. For a series so known for its magic, most of the magic boils down to "stun enemy" and "deal damage".

Outside of combat, magic is painfully boring. Your main character will also constantly spoil basic puzzles for you. "Hmm, a rock, perhaps I can use MY LEVITATION SPELL". "Oh, cobwebs are blocking the way, perhaps I can use my FIRE SPELL!" Everything boils down to basic interactions like this.

There's little to no roleplaying, your choices don't matter and boil down to being the nicest guy ever or being an arse for no reason. The story is linear. Your house changes your sleeping area and your clothes and some dialogue but that's about it. The story is very uninspired too, you play as a person with amazing ancient magic powers that nobody else has because you're the chosen one and stuff. Your professor is helping you unearth the mystery of why you're so special while stopping the bad guys from doing evil stuff. Nothing exciting imo.

TL;DR: I guess if you really love Harry Potter you'll enjoy the game for the references they make and magical feel to it, but outside of Hogwarts it's really a pretty generic RPG. The combat's repetitive, the open world feels empty and boring, the game overstays its welcome by being so long, etc. Overall I'd only buy it on deep discount, like $10-15 or something.

Edit: Oh, and there's no Quidditch in this game. Instant 0/10!

  • I was just thinking this was the universe getting back at him for unleashing balan wonderworld onto us all

  • But for real though, they had to know that having telemetry be on by default wasn't going to look good for the open source community.

  • There's a lot of back and forth on this question constantly in the community. IMO you should just choose a Linux distro that's beginner friendly with sane defaults. Any of them can game, basically.

    • Nobara Linux is made specifically for gaming, you might want to start here.
    • ZorinOS is made for people who aren't used to Linux. It's got a great UI and good features. I used to play Elden Ring on it, it's very reliable.
    • Pop_OS is another great general distro. Lots of people gaming use this. They're also making their own desktop environment which they'll use here when it's ready.
    • Arch Linux only if you know what you're doing. If you don't, avoid an arch linux based distro.
  • Don't know if it counts but I hate my alarm so much that I sometimes wake up 1 minute before it triggers.
