Long-Gone Classics The Sims 1 And 2 Are Finally Coming Back To PC

  • On the bright side it confirms backwards compatibility which is big.

  • It puts all discussion about it in one community so people who aren't interested could block it.

  • Quick, everyone, act surprised!

  • Sadly doesn't work on Firefox :^(

  • The suspense is killing me, we need to know what happens next. Keep posting OP

  • People keep meaning different things when they say "Generative AI". Do you mean the tech in general, or the corporate AI that companies overhype and try to sell to everyone?

The tech itself is pretty cool. GenAI is already being used for quick subtitling and translating any form of media quickly. Image AI is really good at upscaling low-res images and making them clearer by filling in the gaps. Chatbots are fallible but they're still really good for specific things like generating testing data or quickly helping you in basic tasks that might have you searching for 5 minutes. AI is huge in video games for upscaling tech like DLSS which can boost performance by running the game at a low resolution then upscaling it, the result is genuinely great. It's also used to de-noise raytracing and show cleaner reflections.

Also people are missing the point on why AI is being invested in so much. No, I don't think "AGI" is coming any time soon, but the reason they're sucking in so much money is because of what it could be in 5 years. Saying AI is a waste of effort is like saying 3D video games are a waste of time because they looked bad in 1995. It will improve.

  • "Don't feed the troll" is literally one of the most basic internet concepts and yet 99% of people fall for it. Everyone is high fiving about how good Mastodon is, but when I visited their explore tab I was greeted with people taking screenshots of every Elon Musk post and crying over it. They cannot stop falling for bait.

  • Every algorithm is just sorting. Facebook sorts which posts should be shown on top and which should be pushed down. Posts that have a bad rank aren't shown to many people - and eventually - none at all.

  • Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. It inspired and perfected a genre of games. It holds up incredibly well.

  • On the 16th will be almost 100% hardware with little to say about software.

Kind of a shame, what I'm most looking forward to is new game announcements. It's been 8 years since Mario Odyssey and I need my 3D Mario fix.

  • Look up LM Studio. It's a free software that let's you easily install and use local LLMs. Note that you need to have a good graphics card and a lot of RAM for it to be useful.

  • We’re going to allow some “flat earth” comments. We’re going to force some moderators to accept some “flat earth” comments.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandolini%27s_law

So basically you're saying people should be allowed to post blatant false information and everybody should try their best to tell them they're wrong rather than doing the sensible thing of stopping false information spreading in the first place.

People who would post that stuff would never argue with good intentions and would often argue in bad faith. What you're suggesting trolling should be allowed, moderators and community members need to waste their time engaging with controversial content nobody wants to see, and threads will have even more people fighting in them. Who decides when wrong info and propaganda posts are allowed to be removed? LW admins? You won't be able to keep up and are guaranteed to incite distrust in your community either way.

I'm with reducing echo chambers and taking action on bad moderators that abuse their positions, but making the blanket statement that basically translates to "flat earthers are now welcome here whether you like it or not, get ready to see posts unironically arguing about why flat earth is right in your feed" surely can ring some bells on why this is a bad idea.

This is like the third time LW tried to be front-and-center in deciding how conversations should happen on Lemmy. You are the most popular Lemmy instance and most content is on your instance. This isn't an experimental safe space instance to dictate how social media should work. Please understand that any weirdly aggressive stances you take affects everyone.

  • Man, Robocraft and Loadout were both great games I enjoyed back in the day, and they both crash and burned a few years later. A real shame.

  • It is, yeah. They never have playtests on PC, I think due to being afraid of dataminers and modders.

  • Sounds far-fetched. Everyone knows they trashed their censorship policies to be in good standing with the winning party that's about to come into office.

  • According to Sybran, the Code27 was created with four goals in mind, which were:

    • l want a character l love, one that's special to me.
    • Someone with a soul, not just a simple looping video.
    • Someone who listens, shares in my joy, and values our cherished experiences.
    • Someone who treasures every moment we share, without forgetting a thing.

    Are the engineers there okay???

  • Awesome, thank you
