They're not being made fun of for being white cishet men. They're being made fun of for being privileged and whinging about other people now receiving the rights to which they felt they alone were entitled. Being privileged is not something you are born with, it is something granted to you by an unjust society. Crying about others being granted rights as if it will affect them negatively is a choice they are making. This is not about them being cishet white dudes. It is about them choosing to resist progress because it might mean they don't get treated like the super special kiddies our society has always treated them as.
That you are equating "haha these privileged people are overreacting to minorities no longer having boots on their necks" with "boo hoo, you're saying all white cishet dudes are bad" tells me all I need to know. I won't be able to change your mind, so have fun feeling persecuted 💜
The woman arrested wasn't the driver, just the dognapper. They haven't caught the man who was driving yet, but I assume he'll have much harsher charges if/when they do.
You know, I really, really think you're reading something into this that isn't there. What, exactly, strikes you as hate here? What in this meme is "demonizing language"? It's a joke pointing out that privileged people tend to panic and lash out when the people who have historically had fewer privileges than them start receiving help to level the playing field, as if life is some kind of zero-sum game and others being treated better suddenly means they'll get treated worse. This is a well-recognized truth that applies broadly across privileged populations and has been remarked upon by many people through the years of building civil liberties for minorities of all stripes, and this meme is just poking a bit of fun at it. No one thinks that literally every single cishet white dude is panicking that they'll be up against the wall if minorities ask to be treated better. I'm really confused at your apparently visceral reaction against this so-called "hate".
Hard for those of us who have different-than-expected-proportions. I have a custom built desk at home so it's not a problem, but my work desk is just too high. Even at its highest, my chair doesn't raise me up enough to allow me to sit ergonomically since I have a short torso. The vertical mouse helps make up for it, though.
The wired version of the Anker is better than the wireless, imo. I've had the wired version at work for three years now and have been happy with it - comfy, pretty light, cord is a good length. My coworker has the wireless and when I use it I find it heavier and less responsive.
It's the carbonated aspect that makes it so bad, I think. Carbonated ginger? Sure! Carbonated beef broth? I'll pass. No thank you. That sounds disturbing.
I think a lot of people didn't like where Amy Lee took Evanescence after the split with Ben Moody, but I feel like The Open Door is a better album than Fallen overall. It may be less hard rock, but it's more interesting and really showcases her writing talent, while Ben just wanted to be a pop hard rock group without exploring other musical elements (as showcased with his lackluster project We Are the Fallen, which was just Evanescence Light with a less powerful female vocalist).
I know a lot of people didn't like it because it was a departure from their earlier style but I honestly think A Thousand Suns was their peak. I don't even like all the songs on it, but each one was so obviously crafted with care and intent, and you could tell they were really all-in on it. I think the exploration of their talents through a post-apocalyptic concept album really challenged and brought out the best in them.
White Album? Abbey Road? I mean, even if you aren't a big fan of Yellow Submarine or Magical Mystery Tour, how can you say freaking Abbey Road is a comedown from Sgt Pepper's?
It is when they vote for people who outwardly say that shit. I don't care what they claim to believe, I only care what their actions say they believe. I don't know a single "conservative" who wouldn't vote for a politician aiming to infringe upon minority rights, and if you're voting for people who want me to be forced to bear a child I don't want, or who want my trans sibling to be banned from receiving life-saving medical care, or who want to deregulate the medical industry so that insurance companies and profit-hospital CEOs can line their pockets at the expense of the working class, or who want to give more money to racist cops who harass my black friends? Then you can talk about how you don't hate trans people all you want but the consequences of your actions say otherwise. You can say abortion doesn't bother you but I don't believe you. You can say "well, I have a black friend" but you're still voting for racists. And I'm sorry, but that makes you a bad person and I won't be friends with a bad person.
Maybe in other countries it's different. But American conservatives only want to "conserve" the status quo of rich white people doing whatever they want and everyone else getting fucked. They can deny it, but until they stop voting for it there's zero reason to believe them.
I mean, I'm sorry, but if they believe that abortion is baby murder, black people are predisposed to being criminals, poor people don't deserve to have healthcare, and trans kids should have to live in a miserable hell that makes them want to commit suicide, I'm not going to just "not talk about it" and stay friends with them. If your morals are that fucked, I can't in good conscience call you a friend.
Our way of surviving furniture assembly is for him to Go Away And Let Me Do It, because I can follow directions and he just tries to slap things together without looking xD
I love my husband! Knowing when to just let the other person get on with shit is a pretty good litmus test, I agree, lol.
Aerial arts - silks, trapeze, flying pole, lyra, straps, custom apparatus like cubes/chairs etc. Anything about doing artistic acrobatics on a piece of metal/fabric/other suspended in the air. The community on reddit was the perfect size but pretty much none of them came over to lemmy.
You know, as jaded as I am, it still saddens me to see gen z being just as jaded. I'm going to try a different tack, though I probably won't change your mind.
Biden is a dusty old milquetoast imperialist fucktwat. No arguments on that front. However, due to the way our electoral system works, 3rd parties cannot currently be viable at a national level because you and I will never, ever be able to convince 50%+ of the population to vote outside the D/R binary. It is an unfortunate reality that every vote not explicitly for Biden is a vote that will help Trump in the end.
What needs to happen, realistically, is that we defeat Trump, buy ourselves 4 more years of slow decline rather than complete collapse, and work at a local level to grow support for some form of ranked voting before 2028. Now, granted, that's been the goal of most pacifist leftists for years now and it hasn't happened. However, keep in mind that even if Trump is voted in and we see a fascist collapse, revolution probably just... won't happen. Not in America. Not in our lifetimes. Not in enough force to change anything. And if revolution doesn't happen and you're now living in a full-on fascist hellscape, how will you get out? Do you have a plan? Is it feasible? Even if it's feasible now, will it remain so in two years?
I dunno. I have very little hope at this point, and maybe the "burn it down" zoomers are right. Maybe you all and gen alpha have enough energy to overcome the lethargic despair and bitterness that has suffused us older folks. All I know is that I'm too fucking tired to revolt after the train crash, so I'll try my best to stop the train instead and work to build new tracks going the other direction. It'd be nice to have a little help but... Honestly I don't blame you if you just want to see it crash at this point.
Wow, writing that all out just made me even more depressed 🥲
Can confirm the giant steel basin sink with ledges is fucking awesome. We just installed one and I will never go back.
