  • I'm not sure LibreOffice is a drop-in replacement for Google Docs if you need sharing, collaboration and built-in version control.

  • That is very well-put. I would also add that to perpetuate the dogma that your only worth is your labor we have bullshit jobs.

  • Anarchists are the first victims of authoritarian regimes. The dictator goes for them first, even before their sworn enemies, e.g. fascists or, if it's a fascist dictatorship, communists.

  • Yeah, the only problem is that even a forum channel would require you to create a Discord account and find that server before you can even see its content and that's just not acceptable for massive open communities like r/malefashionadvice that seems to be moving to Discord.

  • Ditto! I think mass participation forums (e.g. r/malefashionadvice) should always be searchable without first having to create an account, find a particular server, join it and then search there. This is just an incredibly slow and ineffective way compared to just doing a search for my problem site:reddit.com in your favorite search engine.

  • I agree, that is a good use case for stories. Plus, most other IM apps have them.

  • Thank you for such a detailed and instructive answer!

  • What's the point of alternative DNS roots? Can they be a thing to mitigate DNS related failures (though lemmy.ml is back online, so I guess that wasn't it)?

  • <conspiracy-mode> Unless they collect voices to then use them for NPCs in their private VR worlds where they will live when they finally destroy the planet! </conspiracy-mode>

  • IMHO, the problem is that the Web should not depend on ads. Ads are destroying the Big Web as this proposal shows. Although it may be a good thing for the Fediverse and initiatives like the Small Web.

Also there is such thing as a free launch, in a gift economy.

  • I think the exodus from Reddit is also a factor here. People are united in the cause of finding a new home.

  • I hope the haters won't succeed at discouraging you and thank you for your effort to help our place grow! I'm a bit shy to post too because I don't want to get those kind of comments, but so far it's been a positive experience.

  • Doesn't Codeberg say it's mostly for FOSS? They say private repos are only allowed for really small things like note keeping, so it wouldn't be right to just move everything there from GitHub.

  • Is greed really a part of human essence? I don't subscribe to that Hobbesian view.

  • I don't own capital, so that would be contradictory for me to support capitalism. It's likely I will never be rich, like the rest of the 99%, so there's no reason to support the system in hopes of being among the ones at the top.

Also capitalism is inherently immoral, coercive, unsustainable and all around nasty.
