  • Maybe when we allowed money (here represented by the size of the browser market share) to translate directly into political power (here represented by the ability to enforce arbitrary standards).

  • That appears to be a paraphrased notion from Jiddu Krishnamurti's works, quoted and attributed to him in The Eden Express: A Memoir of Insanity (1975) by Mark Vonnegut.

  • Something like this is most certainly a crime against humanity.

  • It might be a problem, but I don't think it's the cause of extreme weather and climate change (or scarcity, poverty, hunger etc.). The dominant economic and political system is.

Also I believe it will be eventually possible to either build comfortable cities in deserts and permafrost tundra (or even on the sea floor) or transform those to less hostile biomes (although there are ethical and aesthetical considerations) provided we don't go extinct due to climate change before we have a chance to address overpopulation concerns.

  • Read Make Room! Make Room! if you want a grim and realistic picture of the future (though I don't agree with the notion that overpopulation is the problem).

  • Who else counted the hot dogs on the label just to make sure there are 8? 😅

  • Except Musk. Musk loves any kind of publicity and he understands that people love to look at clown billionaires. It's a great disarming tactic. The public sees him as that harmless prankster and not a threat.

  • I'm not sure about that. Maybe they asked very nicely?

  • Used to use them, but they often don't work, now I just use archive.today (they also offer an extension to quickly open the link there).

  • In the morning, if your face is a little puffy, do you put on an ice pack while you do your crunches?

  • Came here to ask the same question. Like, do you wear gloves in the shower? Or maybe they take a sword with them?

  • I used them for a long time before getting tired of appending !g after every search because DDG's results were SEO garbage. I'm trying them again and they seem to be slightly better, but I'm not quite sure. Also it appears that the minus operator doesn't work on DDG, and when I have to use it, I just do !s to search Google with Startpage (which I don't use because it's owned by an ad company and because its website is a little bit slower than DDG).

  • Yes, but to be fair once again, some might see it as a good thing because it might drive up engagement and discourage lurking. I.e., if you already went through the trouble of creating an account, then why not post or comment?
