  • Basically you understand your installation better when you're the one who assembled your installation.

Distros like ubuntu ship with a bunch of preinstalled software. This means less setup for you to do but in the end you'll end up with some stuff you don't need or understand the purpose of.

And ofc arch is the opposite. It ships with the bare minimum and then everything else is up to you to set up

  • You should check out WSL. Might be a bit faster than vm

  • It works but it's config interface looks borked

Edit: NVM, it also breaks some sites

  • I use MO2 with Lutris. NXM Link Handler does not function in my experience, but you can just manually download the mods and then install via mo2

    • Ublock Origin: No brainer. You can block just about every intrusive component of the modern internet with just this.
    • Stylus: Write CSS themes for websites
    • User-Agent Manager: For compatibility purposes, switch your user-agent to chromium on some websites
    • Libredirect
    • ClearURLs: Copy links without tracking or affiliation
    • Dark Reader: Dark mode everywhere
    • Temporary Containers: Provides some nifty shortcuts and features for creating temporary containers
  • In other news, the floor is made out of surface

  • You're not going to find an antivirus that isn't intrusive because that is their entire duty. However, Kaspersky has a very high malware detection rate compared to other AV solutions

  • It'll be the year of the Linux desktop!

  • I like the Ultrachrome CSS mod. It doesn't massively change the interface - but it looks a bit nicer imo

  • I mean linux is a better bet. Less bloat so it'll run better.

Otherwise, you can install windows 10 LTSC, use massgravel's activation scripts and use some anti-spyware tools such as windows spy blocker for the peak windows experience.

  • It's ironic that when a dev says its ok to pirate their game, I feel a greater urge to purchase it legitimately. Maybe it's because you have to be a certain level of cool to say that.

  • Youtube and spotify do not offer lossless codecs. I prefer using tools like qbdlx and deemix but not all music can be found on said services. That is where torrents come in.

  • Editing the registry is also potentially dangerous and I have had to reinstall windows more than once because of it.

The fact that windows does not provide a safe configuration environment within which to make such changes, is most definitely a detriment.

  • I was a lurker on Lemmy before the api scandal and tbh it was completely dead. What arose from the scandal was not Reddits downfall, as many of us mightve hoped for at the time, but rather an equally glorious revival of Lemmy.

  • Game piracy is currently in a precarious position, given how difficult it's become to crack denuvo. Games without denuvo still release very often, but especially in the AAA space, piracy is definitely slowing down

  • Mostly old projects of mine like artwork and games
