Sounds right, it's just an all-or-nothing gambit or both you and the major party you align with would lose big.

You'll have to appeal to the masses, get them willing to vote since voter turnout is not good, get awareness and enough energy to convince people to gamble on a vote for your third party since if each only get half of all voters on "their" side, the opposition wins. All while fighting the established party and all the funds, big names, etc. that empower it.

Heck, the US Democratic party has seemingly been willing to lose democracy than allow any progressive candidates to rise in the party.

first-past-the-post voting is the most common system in the States (and most prominent in presidential elections) which generally means additional parties rising to prominence will almost assuredly split the vote with the closest party so a new worker’s party will have to magically eclipse and obliterate the Democratic party overnight or they will both lose to the Republicans indefinitely.

Oh no, I don't think it would be able to pull from iCloud directly, I believe there is an option to delete uploaded photos on the iOS device after uploading in the Nextcloud app but I don't know if that is automatic or requires the user to acknowledge a prompt unfortunately.

This isn't necessarily a 1:1 answer for you but it's just what I have experience with: I used Nextcloud for a period of time and set up the app to upload which worked like any basic cloud storage service but what I've done since (I downsized) is just use the PhotoSync app and it's companion on my PC. You can target a PC (like I do), WebDAV, FTP, SMB, etc. which may help with scalability.

I still don't know what big improvements have been made to 11 other than another coat of paint, some LLM features searching for a problem and the odd feature like that Android subsystem that's being cancelled. Modern Standby is still being pushed which would rule out most new Windows laptops for me.

It's not like I want something revolutionary, just a number of quality of life things would be nice without feeling like I'm fighting the machine. If I could search images on my machine with OCR like iOS Photos I would be over the moon but noone's seemed to want to copy that.

Sorry to be the one but the privacy and freedom issue is independent of powertrain. Some earlier models before the automakers went upmarket with EVs were perfectly normal. Now the tablet-on-dash, telematics and other data collection has become pervasive in EVs but now it’s in full-force on ICE vehicles for quite some time. A Mach E and Colorado can both be, and have been, bricked by a bad OTA update.

Practicality though also will vary. If people were used to charging at home all the time, telling people that they have to visit a business to refuel every X days or Y miles would seem odd just because it’s quite different than people think is normal.

I read about Apple looking to bring the spec up to par, but I suspect it has a higher chance of being a nothing-burger since carriers haven’t bothered with RCS and Google’s implementation is as controlled/proprietary as iMessage so it will be interesting to see how things go forward.
