Thanks for the sources; however, the National Library of Medicine is using data from 1993 and the other doesn't specify by how much the violations rates are increasing or what the rates even are and the link to the underlying data appears to be dead.

edit: I had time to look into this further and it appears that it was very common to fudge the paper logbook, but as of 2017 they're required to use electronic logbook devices (ELD's), so that is no longer possible. Yes, sleep deprivation due to violating the hours of service regulations was definitely a thing in the past, but I can't find any data that indicates that it still is.

Where are truck drivers staying awake for 24 hours? In the US, there are daily and weekly limitations and rest requirements, including a mandatory 10hr consecutive rest period every day.

No thanks. Someone walking around with an assault rifle isn't going to make me feel safe. Quite the opposite actually. It's going to make me feel like I'm in a warzone, which aren't generally regarded as safe places.

I would rather live in a world where we treated all mentally ill people, even dangerous ones, with compassion than one where we just lock them up and throw away the key. I personally think that we, as a society, have a moral responsibility to lift each other up, but even if you look at it from a selfish point of view, it still makes sense. For example, it's possible that someday, you might have a mental break, maybe due to a tragic event or brutal experience, and will need help and wouldn't you rather be treated kindly rather than being locked away and forgotten about?

Thank you for the additional source. So, there wasn't any signage, barriers, or lighting, AND it was dark and raining AND Google had multiple requests and 10 years to fix it AND other services have it properly marked. Maybe people should slow their roll and stop dismissing the case out of hand?

I think that they're making perfect the enemy of good...and they can because people keep throwing money at them. Most dev teams don't have that luxury.

About what is going through her mind? Sure. I don't know the lady, nor does anyone else in this thread. Just like how nobody knows anything about the case. Frankly, his wife's motivation has nothing to do with my point.

She assumed that he was innocent until he was proven guilty. Crazy concept, right? I mean, not really, but sometimes it seems that it's some arcane knowledge or something and not a core principle of the country.

I'll believe it when I see it. The last 7-8 years have really made me cynical, especially when it comes to Trumpty Dumpty. I laughed when he first ran and it broke me when he actually won.

The only way that anything gets done in politics is compromise, so I guess we shouldn't be too surprised that politicians are willing to compromise their values as well? Politicians that don't aren't very successful, so most people in these positions are flexible and moldable, like bags of clay...or shit.

I think they're becoming more common in residential in the US, at least that's the impression I get from the number of articles and videos that get pushed my way. They're not as good in colder climates, evidently, but hybrid systems where there is still a furnace but a heat pump for cooling seem to be a good alternative in those situations.
