  • Just in case you aren't aware, an LLC has the option to be taxed as an S-Corp which can be beneficial tax-wise depending on her income level. There is more paperwork involved because she would have to run payroll for herself, but it can be worth it. Theoretically, your accountant would recommend this if it would be beneficial for you, so hopefully, this isn't news to you guys, but if so, it may be worth exploring.

  • Interesting. I learned to type on a typewriter too, but we did double spaces. I think it was the last year they used typewriters for the class, though, so it probably still comes down to an evolution of standards over the years. Thanks for the answer!

  • We had a recreational marijuana referendum in my state and the opposition signs said, "Save the Children." From what? I have no idea. Unsurprisingly, the vote failed.

Of course, it really helped that the state legislature sued to halt the referendum on grounds of improper procedure which caused the referendum to be put on the ballot as a special election instead of the mid-terms ballot. The judge dismissed the lawsuit, by the way.

The shit some people will do to stop other people from having a good time.

  • Those are so infuriating. Especially when it's for some random website that you'll likely never have a reason to visit ever again. Does anyone actually subscribe? I highly doubt it, though who knows what old people do (I used to do end-user tech support and I've seen some shit). I've come across a couple of stores offer a small discount if you subscribe, which is at least a legit reason to do so, but this discount is so small that I even then I don't bother.

  • They weren't intending to have contour lines at release and maybe not at all, but after their first playthrough stream with their community managers, they added the overlay (before the next stream even!) because of feedback in chat.

That's the kind of agility I would expect with a 1 or 2 developer passion project and not with a game of this magnitude.

  • I'm planning on starting the emigration process within the next few years because it's starting to become obvious that the US will never get its shit together. Too many selfish hypocrites holding things back. I understand that the grass isn't always greener, but I'm confident that it will at least taste better with those sweet sweet European social services.

  • Especially the ones that are so fucking obnoxious that you have to go through it to even view the site. I don't bother most of the time. The banner should be unobtrusive AND there should be a button that rejects all. I shouldn't have to go and click edit preferences, uncheck a bunch of check boxes, the click confirm. There are some sites that are doing it correctly, but they are few and far between.

  • Giving indigenous people a voice is apartheid? That's some racist fearmongering if I've ever heard it. You say that every time you try to have a conversation about the issue you get called racist? Have you considered that maybe it's because you are racist? No, of course not; that would require a level of introspection that you are too cowardly to reach for, whether you admit it or not.

I sincerely hope that you some day find the courage to confront your prejudices and grow as a person, but I'm not interested in waiting for that day.

  • Name calling is unnecessary.

Indigenous people definitely were NOT part of the formation of the Australian government and in order to participate they have had to conform in order to get votes from people outside their group, right?

And to reiterate, it's called the Voice because that's what it will give them. That's it. Just a way to have some formal input (that can still be ignored) without having to pander to people that do not understand their way of life. Is it enough? No, but it's a start at least.

I, for one, know that if I was just living my life and an outside group of people came and told me that they were taking over and I had to do things their way instead if I had any hope of having a say in my future, I would be pretty pissed. I would also be pretty pissed that those same outsiders would presume to deny me a voice for reasons that they can't coherently articulate without resorting to name calling.

  • So your argument boils down to, "I don't want to change the constitution?" If a purely advisory body was created by an act of parliament then you'd be okay with it?

What I meant by standing apart is that there is this group of people that were living their best lives for 60k years and then another group of people came and said, "This place is ours now and we are going to run it like we want and we don't give a shit about your customs, so either start doing things our way or fuck off." They are standing apart because they weren't included.

  • As other commenters have pointed out, anything coming out of the Voice is non-binding, so it's powers have been already decided and it will be effectively powerless. There are legitimate arguments that have been made for and against, but I don't think yours is one of them.

Moreover, I think you are looking at it the wrong way. It's not so much that it is giving a specific racial group a special government body as it's giving a group of people that stand apart from the Australian government a voice. If this group of people were not a single racial group, but otherwise everything was exactly the same, would you still vote no?

  • RoKKiT KiT

He's a laid back Aussie dude that does mostly ocean-based solo beach camping catch and cooks.

I'm on the other side of the world, half a days travel from the ocean, so his channel provides me an interesting and often beautiful perspective of a life very different than my own.

  • With the amount of trash in the ocean, I wouldn't be surprised if even an uncontacted tribe is running around in mismatched sandals and drinking out of old plastic bottles.

A guy I watch on YT has done a couple of short shipwreck survival challenges on some of the little islands off the coast of Australia. He starts barefoot and with no supplies and within an hour of scavenging the beach he has a pair of sandals, a half dozen bottles, both plastic and glass, and usually some fishing line or rope.
