  • Seems to be an overreaction. What are the prisoners gonna with the bios password? Install an alternate OS? But there is no usb port, and the prisoners can't solder one themselves without, well, a soldering kit. Boot from network? But it may not have a wifi card.

  • Chance that someone already made SANE binding for your programming language of choice, e.g. jfreesane for java, python-sane , etc.

  • But the Soviet!

  • I sure hope so. Just the other day I updated to nvidia v550. Got a blank tty screen right after login to gnome/wayland. Rebooted the computer and login to gnome/x11, no issue. Logout and relogin to gnome/wayland, somehow no issue anymore. I guess this kind of random issues will persist until one day Nvidia decides to play nice with Wayland.

  • Yeah, it's been broken since v27. I'm still on v26 because of this.

  • Nvidia users: Chuckles I'm in Danger

  • I'm actually ok if they passed on the saving of not having to operate branches to their customers in the form of lower fees, a higher interest rate for saving accounts, better credit card rewards, etc.

  • Sure, you also have that option on Linux, which would be the first thing you do anyway. But after you searched everywhere and found nothing, on Linux you still have an option to dig into the source code yourself, while on windows you're pretty much done unless you have a support contract with ms.

  • Downloading actual linux ISOs with bittorrent is soo much faster than downloading them directly from the distro's mirror. I always use bittorent to download new linux distros I'd like to try.

Also, I believe p2p protocols are still popular in korea because ISPs there actually charge website operators for bandwidth delivered to korean customers. Twitch pulled out of korea because of this. I think their competitors there, e.g. AfreecaTV, uses p2p for their streams.

  • I updated to nvidia v550 recently. Got a blank tty screen right after login to gnome/wayland. Rebooted the computer and login to gnome/x11, no issue. Logout and relogin to gnome/wayland, no issue. Yay, I guess?

  • The great thing about Linux is if something has weird behavior and you're already exhausted all possible options to solve it, it is still possible to figure it out on your own because the source code is available.

I still don't know how windows people figure out how to fix such and such problems on windows with some registry entries. Did they ask a Microsoft employee, or did they mess around with the registry blindly until it's magically fixed?

  • Charges for keeping this invoice confidential: $100,000.00

Considering we're seeing this invoice right now, they didn't keep it confidential did they?

  • I didn't know Canada has law governing names. Where I live it's free for all. A kid even named "Karantina Covidah" by their parents for fuck sake.

  • How about using code-server and pointing it to your markdown folder? While it's a code editor, it also has built-in markdown preview. Installation is also easy and doesn't require docker.

  • Mr Pistorius did not name the officer, but said he dialled into the Webex call using either his mobile phone or the hotel’s Wi-Fi network, and not a secure line as would be expected for such calls.

Why would a secure line matter? Are webex calls not encrypted? Even whatsapp calls are e2e encrypted.

  • Google play services often do this when you have multiple google accounts in your phone. The most surefire way to fix it is to reinstall from the same google account that purchase the subscription.

Edit: wait a minute, I'm pretty sure sync for lemmy was released on August. Sync for Reddit purchase doesn't carry over to Sync for Lemmy.

  • So, OpenAI is arguing that Musk already know from beginning that OpenAI is going to be operating like this, thus he has no legal standing to sue?

  • Slow but steady growth is better imo, especially since Lemmy's moderation tools are still not that good and instance admins often get overwhelmed maintaining their own instances. Some instance admins got frustrated so much, they decided to create a new lemmy backend: https://github.com/sublinks/sublinks-api

  • The response seems to be something along the line of "see, Musk actually agreed with us" instead of actually refuting the claims in the lawsuit. I was hoping for something more substantial.

  • I believe a crossover cable is no longer needed these days as most ethernet adapters implements Auto-MDIX .
