  • I think there are a couple factors at play: firstly, this movie is actually pretty silly and weird; although I disagree with the movie's politics, it's a good film, and I like it. However, it felt a lot more like a cult hit than a mainstream blockbuster success. I can tell why some people wouldn't like the film due to it's weirdness or how much of the plot doesn't make sense.

But also it's a highly political film, so there's a lot of subtext, jokes, and moral messaging that probably won't connect unless you're fluent in American politics and the three waves of feminism that have swept the nation.

  • I frankly find the film's highly racialized marketing odd and unnecessarily polarizing. I wasn't thinking about race until they brought it up, now it's feeling like the movie will be yet another culture war battleground because certain people will view it as "woke", while others will see it just because the stars aren't white people.

  • Are private organizations only allowed to part ways with an employee because they committed crimes?

I frankly think that you probably shouldn't be fired for mere suspicion of a crime; there has to at least be a fair bit of demonstrable evidence. For example there is a fair bit of demonstrable evidence that Roiland flirted with underage fans.

  • This is not a legal issue, but a social one.

I think Marvel learned from Adult Swim's mistake (if you want to call it that), waiting on evidence presented in court before deciding whether or not to get rid of Jonathan Majors.

I'm frankly not that upset about Justin Roiland being gone from the show though because 1) He apparently has had limited control over the show over the past few years anyways 2) he reportedly has been caught dead-to-rights flirty with underage fans and 3) former coworkers have said that trying to work with him on Rick & Morty specifically was a harrowing and awful experience due to his childlike behavior.

Plus the sound-alikes are pretty good if the end of the teaser is any indication.

  • LOL the state of buying discs in brick and mortar store is abysmal now. I used to like buying discs from Walmart but the one near me has relegated everything to a bargain bin of kids' movies, basically. Practically the only way to buy discs now is to do so online, or at a Best Buy or Barnes & Noble if you have one near you

  • I hope not, because having more players in the space is better than losing one, but it's seeming like at the very least Disney will be stepping back.

I think the best case scenario though is just for Disney to give the properties they bought from Fox Corp back to them.
