  • Boy oh boy, what a post. Somehow they managed to make it less clear than ever what they even want to do with the platform, here are my favorite highlights:

With the use of AI now ubiquitous and ‘AI slop’ rapidly replacing the content we see online, this trust gap is where we think Stack Overflow can play a role. Our renewed vision and purpose moving forward is to be the world’s most vital source for technologists. By providing a trusted human intelligence layer in the age of AI, we believe we can serve technologists with our mission to cultivate community, power learning, and unlock growth.

That's some advanced corpo-speak, doubling down on AI but also acknowledging that people don't like AI-generated answers and providing a "human intelligence layer" to "unlock growth". Did an AI write this? Lol.

As AI becomes more pervasive, the efficacy of AI systems will increasingly depend on access to verifiable and accurate knowledge. That will extend to job opportunities too as people look for guidance on exciting career prospects, and this is why we aim to Unlock growth for those who come to Stack Overflow or use our products.

I can feel the growth unlocking the more of this I read.

Knowledge Ingestion converts high-value content from tools like SharePoint, Confluence, Google Drive, and others into structured, trusted knowledge inside a Stack Internal instance. It’s designed to eliminate silos, accelerate onboarding, and scale institutional wisdom.

I wasn't sure I wanted to ingest knowledge, but now that I can eliminate all these silos, I'm sure that my team can finally gain some institutional wisdom. Also I'm having a stroke. Help-

  • This project is definitely a parent studio decided that they didn’t like the game, so they decided to cancel it.

If you've read the past few development updates, it's very likely that the team leadership is at fault and not Riot. They basically spent the last ~3 years moving the game to a new engine and the most they had to show was some concept art. I hoped that they were developing in secret to have some big reveal down the line, but it seems like the game really was going nowhere.

I'm reading it more like the longest "we blew our budget and had no game" post.

  • Bloody tiny ribbon cables…

Yeah... They're sturdier than they look but it's still scary that pulling on one of them could completely ruin the joycon. My bigger problem was the battery connector, I intended to remove the battery completely but after trying to disconnect it twice, I gave up and just moved it aside. I was too worried I'd break it.

  • Yeah I'm aware of the hall effect replacements which are pretty cheap, but this fix was essentially free and should last me at least a few months until the sticks degrade. Once it really stops working I'll look into opening it again and fixing it for real.

I just fixed my joycon drift today!

  • I work in the industry. You're pretty much right. I wouldn't recommend people to get into the field unless you're SUPER into making games and are okay with working way harder than others. That said, other tech jobs are also suffering right now, layoffs are way more common than they used to be throughout the entire field feels very competitive.

  • That's... Kind of insane! I've been following Bitcraft every now since it got announced but I never expected them to go to this direction. The blog post makes sense but I'm curious what license they're going to use. It could be a legal minefield to try and stop people from stealing the game, re-branding it, then profiting off of it.

It'll be really curious to see how this plays out because there isn't really any major games that went open source, much less one that's going to be actively monetized like Bitcraft.

Our focus will be on a smooth and successful Early Access launch on Steam, which is our highest priority. Only once we are happy with the state of the game will we start the process of open sourcing BitCraft.

Anyway, it sounds like open-sourcing the game might take a while. I hope early access works out for them.

  • It doesn't do anything by default, you have to go to settings > zen mods > click the settings icon next to the mod name.

If you set the options and nothing happened then I'm not sure, it worked for me instantly when toggling stuff off.

  • I've started using more Zen Mods recently too, the most important one I would say is Zen Context Menu - which lets you de-clutter the options when you right click anything. There are way too many options being shown when you right clicked the sidebar, but it's a lot nicer to use now.

My Thoughts on the Zen Browser

  • but every job also says 100+ applicants

Most of them are spam or people testing their luck even though they're underqualified since applying to jobs is usually just a click nowadays. Don't worry too much about it.

  • I get people that make tutorials for "content" even if they suck at their job, but I CANNOT get over video tutorials where someone gets completely lost and doesn't cut it out of the video.

Anyways we'll go here-oh there's an error. Uhm. Maybe we can do this? That didn't work. Maybe that? Hang on, maybe it's in preferences? Oh, it's in tools, no, wait, oh I just wrote the name wrong

Would it kill you to edit that out and stop wasting my time?!

  • I use Joplin. It's fairly simple and very comparable to Evernote if you've ever used that, but it's perfect for my needs.

I used LogSeq before, it's very similar to Obsidian, the big difference being that it's open source. It's got a ton of features and the built-in whiteboard is actually really good, but I found it a bit overkill for my simple note taking.

    • Logseq also makes each line start with a bulleted list which quickly made me go insane
  • I appreciate the rundown! I started getting used to Emmet now, it's certainly more friendly than it looks. I think this is what I was looking for.

The short-hand for CSS in Emmet is also pretty neat, but It'll take some time to get used to it. w75p m10 turns into width: 75%; margin:10px

What do you use for writing HTML by hand?

  • I owned a PSP Go a few years ago, it's a great device. I loved how tiny it is, but the screen was a little too small for me, and it didn't handle emulation that well. Loved playing Lumines and Patapon on it, though!

  • I agree, it's about the perfect size for me. Just small enough to fit in my jacket pocket.

I honestly wish PC handhelds had a similar size, but they're all tablet-size. Someone had an image comparing the Vita with the Steam Deck and it puts into perspective how large handhelds have gotten.
