  • I mean at least in the US the median congressional age is 64.7 so yeah gramps doesn't remember being that age much less having internet access. Doesn't consider that you can't find porn mags in the woods anymore.

  • Musk's effort if it can be called as such is and has been entirely commercial in nature. A for-profit company is not a positive legacy. Ford may have made cars relatively cheap and available but he doesn't have the positive legacy of Rockefeller or Carnegie scale. Similar with Edison who is becoming more known as the ip thief and asshole that he was. Musk bought companies/ got bought by them, he really hasn't invented anything. He had some lines of code in his original X which got bought by PayPal just in case as it was attempting similar payment processor things. Musk's only real chance for a positive legacy via his current stuff is to actually do human Mars travel via SpaceX. Tesla isn't self driving and is well behind competition, known for recalls and shitty quality nowadays. SpaceX is still relatively cool but we know he's not in charge there, Starlink could be cool but it's also terrible for actual earth telescopes. Twitter, xAI, and that medical torture company are/will be shitshows

The bill and melinda Gates foundation and the Zuckerberg and channing foundation are things that have at least some positive impact though gates keeps funding carbon capture tech instead of better greenhouse gas reduction/nature preservation.

  • You should emphasize the 4-legged more than animal. Also they're 270-570lb and ~58.8% of their body weight is skeletal muscle, highest percentage of any mammal.

People like to ignore that humans are animals too often. And honestly not great at anything if we don't have tools. Even persistence hunting requires at least water and a spear.

  • Reddit allows racism or sexism just fine without slurs or with slurs depending on the subreddit.

You see it mostly on the more political and gamer/incel type communities there.

  • Do you play 24h a day? An 80h game will take me months. If it is enjoyable for those 80h that is well worth for me. I don't want to spend hours struggling and getting griefed or playing smurfs just to get to a point where I know the "meta" or whatever. I'm not in the position to grind and compete in those games anymore. I'm done with them except for special occasions. Overwatch, DRG, helldivers etc not fun for me. Yeah, I'll still play l4d2 or rocket league occasionally. I put my time in tf2 and guild wars, but I'm still in act I of Baldurs Gate III and it's fun and interesting. Hades is great (though runs are a little long). I'll get horizon zero dawn and hades 2 at some point. I'm not getting overwatch 2 or whatever the modern multi-player is.

  • If you're "finished" with an $80 single player game in a couple of days either the game was shit or the way you play without doing any side stuff or more difficult achievements means single player isn't for you. A good single player game is worth replaying or trying new things in. Personally a game that gives at least an hour of play per dollar is worth it to me.

  • That's a very self-centric view. Single player games exist because sometimes I want to immerse in a game world not deal with 3 randos(or even friends) and do "the objective" over and over. Yeah multi-player can be fun, but it is a a lot less immersive and rarely as relaxing.

  • Pens are dust-free, pencils are not. Dust-free pencils are special and expensive because it's a lot of chemistry and testing to ensure that. How do you cleanly sharpen a pencil for example? Special pens are special but cheap because the components to make them are still relatively simple, the ink is still standard. More expensive than standard pens by a fair bit but a lot cheaper and more practical than the pencils.

  • Pens are dust-free as is, the problem with a regular ballpoint or felt tip pen is that both inking mechanisms rely on gravity. When you're in 0g the ballpoint won't work at all and the felt will stop working after a point when there's no gravity to pull more ink to the tip.

You could probably spin a felt until it rewets but you'd be liable to make a mess as well.

  • Yes, but cutting a "big block" for instance social security doesn't give any real sense of what it does economically.

The average person seems to lack the ability to follow a cut to the social security block reducing payments and/or increasing retirement age much less the other downstream effects when millions of old people are suddenly spending less because they no longer have as much cash month to month. Once it occurs to someone they know, then they see it, once it happens to them then they care.

  • I mean the whole point of a notification is to well, notify. Vibration alone isn't always adequate. Unless it's going off repeatedly I don't see the issue. Some sounds are normal in public.

Personally my phone is always on vibrate except for calls from certain people.

  • Tbf the bond market getting rocked was in large part due to Canada, Europe, and Japan doing coordinated but relatively minor sales of the bonds they hold as part of the tariff response. Carney probably understands global finances more than any other world leader for getting that done the way he did.
