  • On one hand, it makes sense for Threads to enable Fediverse integration only on public profiles, technically. With a Threads-only private profile, they can ensure that if you want to delete stuff in your profile or even your profile altogether, this can be deleted for good.

On the other hand, for people like me, it makes me unable to get in touch with my close ones who might choose to keep their profile on private. If they'd like to keep using the Fediverse in the future, they would have to choose between this or switching their profile view to public, and some people would dislike that.

This just makes Threads a poor choice for joining the Fediverse.

  • @alyaza snow? Wow. Give me some of that snow 😁 Here it's sunny, but cold. Spring doesn't really want to come. I still managed to do some spring cleanup around my house, tho.

  • @Telorand I play Stardew Valley for days without charging, so I guess it could definitely last you an entire trip.

Why aren't you taking the train? Depending where you live, they might have power sockets in there (trains here usually have)

  • @IsoSpandy in Romania not really, but when you baptize them the priests are like yeah, drown that shit right there!

  • "Changes to our Search results may send more traffic to large intermediaries and aggregators, and less traffic to direct suppliers like hotels, airlines, merchants and restaurants," Bethell wrote.

This is exactly what is happening right now. Every time I search for some random stuff on Google, I get eMag links (eMag is basically the biggest online retailer in my country. Kinda like Amazon).

    They usually sound like:

Looking for [query]? Choose from the eMag offer

And then I get redirected to their search page if I click on it.

  • Thanks for the feedback. On the other hand it is a hassle for me to manually remove the tags as well on every comment. Especially on mobile where you cannot Ctrl+A then Backspace or Del

I initially thought I found a setting on Friendica that would disable this, but instead it hid these from my own view. I thought this was the case only on Mastodon to ensure compatibility. Sadly, it was not, as we saw, so I toggled that setting back.

Yes, it really sucks that Gargron's decisions weigh so much on the Fediverse atm, as the most people are on Mastodon, and all software needs to ensure compatibility with it first.

Hope this reply gets to you without the tags now as well. 🙂

  • @tree Meta is bigger itself though. There's no comparison.

    @jeena

  • @kittykittycatboys Friendica is more like Facebook FWIW, indeed, but it pretty much wants to have all the tools required for a long-form posting social network 😁

You can format your posts, you can add a title to them if you want, supports various media inline etc.

  • @helenslunch I am not tagging you, it is automatically tagging you, sorry.

What you want and reality are unfortunately not the same thing.

    Wish they were...

  • @helenslunch Heh, I beg to differ about removing, I'd sure want it removed from time to time, don't know what they're thinking.

Just that when I originally signed up for these services, I did it not with the intent of feeding data to a piece of software that would fundamentally influence our decisions.

But hey, tech companies gotta tech company...

  • @alyaza Freaking hell, is there any more mainstream social media platform left that does not and does not plan to sell your data to an AI already?!? sigh

  • @alyaza @kittykittycatboys Friendica, to some degree. It's pretty flexible, and you can have something like a basic blog. You do depend on the server admin to install the themes that you need, if they're not present. Once they're installed, you can switch between them at will.

There is even a Tumblr add-on if there's anyone you need to follow there.

  • @knokelmaat Not sure if it's a certain category, but here are some that really made me so:

    • Stardew Valley
    • Life is Strange (for now I only played the first series)
    • Memoranda
    • Tiny Echo

I'll edit the list when I remember more.

  • @k110111 The Fediverse is more than just Mastodon. Don't be shy of trying out other social networks as well, as they have a pretty good compatibility with Mastodon.

I just wanted to get rid of Facebook. So, I don't know what did I think about, but I chose Friendica. From here I managed to follow many of the pages that I was following there, over on Mastodon.

News pages have the biggest share in the accounts that I follow, but I also found other accounts, such as @godpod or @DarthPutinKGB
