  • I would segregate the CCTV stuff on a separate VLAN since most likely it will be available from Internet. Since you are planning to use frigate and not connect directly to each single camera, place a firewall rule that block Internet access to them (or at least don't add the gateway).

  • I've used it for about a month, but the number of searches I do is over the $10/month plan, so I should switch to the next that is $25/month, definitely too much! I'll keep using Google within it's own container in Firefox so that it can't track anything and without any ads thanks to PiHole (or is it uBlock Origin?).

  • I moved because it seems abandoned and because the QR code it generates can't be used from an iPhone, the ones that creates Aegis works everywhere. And Aegis seems more...nice, IMHO.

  • Here I am again! Sorry, but I'm new to SearXNG and I don't know it very well, so I need some more info from who knows about it. Instead of hosting your own instance where you tell Google what you search (even if it doesn't know what you click and doesn't track you), wouldn't it better (and easier) to use Google Container that isolate all the searches that you do on Google without even the need to login? All the link you click are opened on different (or no) containers so there is no tracking. So: what are the advantages of using a personal SearXNG instance instead of the FireFox Google container addon? Thanks!

  • Have a look at the Mikrotik switches (the ones that can run routerOS like the CSS610-8P-2S+IN). I don't know much about fiber and up to now I didn't even know that the 10Gbps SFP+ transceivers couldn't work at 2.5Gbps, but have a look at the Optcore Sober transceivers. I've just found them doing a rapid searche, I don't know them.

But if you could go the OPNsense route that @ostsjoe suggested, that would be better!

  • Sorry about that, I'm using the PCI for a dual 1Gbps Ethernet card, I didn't know it wouldn't support such card. It does have a PCI x4 slot and if it's gen 3 if could support 2 10Gbps ports, but I don't know which generation it is.

  • I'm not commenting on the OP message that could/could not make sense, but...come one, this is the selfhosted community! If everyone would post a news that he/she thinks it would be interesting we would be submerged by all but selfhosted talk.

  • Have a look at the Fujitsu Futro S720/920, they're about 30/40€ on eBay. If you're not in EU, have a look at some other thin client like the HP T730. They are cheap and they consume about 6W! Well, maybe a bit more with the dual SFP+ PCI card, but way less than the 65W of the Lenovo (are you sure it consumes that much?) I've been using one S729 for some months now and I'm very happy (not with the fiber thow since I've just a 100/20 vDSL ☹️)

  • Not related to your question, sorry, but I'm curious to know why did you switched to Immich. We're you using Memory in Nextcloud? I'm asking because I'm using it, I've read good thing about Immich and I don't know if it's worth migrating since I'll be keeping Nextcloud for other stuff. Thanks!
