  • Yeah, that's why I'd like some more insight.

The initial headline doesn't exactly pass a sniff test... It's possible, but unlikely.

If ~34,000 were added in the last year, that means over 25% of Steam's library of ~114,000 was added in the last year...

If only 1/5 of those were using generative AI, why was there such a massive increase over the last year?

Has Steam made it easier for cash grabs, or... it just doesn't make a lot of sense without more information

  • How many of the ~6,818 titles now disclosing generative AI use were already on Steam in 2024?

I.E. are a lot of these just games that had already been released, updating their disclosure statements based on Valve's new rules?

The article says 1/5 games released this year use it. I'm not sure if ~34,000 games have released on Steam in the last year

  • ARM isn't plug-and-play like x86 (n.b. it could be, but no one does it outside of servers)

You have to write a big JSON like file, called a DeviceTree, that describes exactly what is in the computer

Unless Apple decides to support Hackintoshes, their OS won't have devicetrees for other devices.

You might be able to make your own and get the OS to read it, but it still has to be for a specific machine rather than generic like before

  • Microsoft seems to have deleted all their old blog posts around it (at least all the links to their responses 404 now), but...

In 2011, they were going to require it to be enabled for all products if they wanted to announce Windows 8 support.

After huge backlash, they changed it to allow motherboard companies to disable it for X years (since I can't find the original, I can't say the exact length of time)

But their original goal was for it to never be allowed to be disabled

  • I'm surprised at using ntfs-3g these days, but one major difference is that ntfs-3g uses FUSE in userspace.

Paragon has an in-kernel driver that is much faster, although I would expect your distro already includes it.

You can check with something like cat /boot/config-* | grep NTFS3_FS
