About aa meaningful as Insider reporting "Watch Bush not talk to Trump at Carter's funeral"
She banned the uncommitted movement from negoatiating as well as Palestinian speakers at the DNC rally, then she talked about Israel's right to defend itself along with no indication of change of policy from Biden.
So I think backing and supporting is pretty accurate here.
That would be masterclass but I highly doubt it because it would be the USA showing up to shutdown the entire country just to release Netanyahu.
Not to mention Mossad has carried out sketchy and illegal operations in NATO countries without any consequences.
I don't know why this is getting downvoted because the current implication that everyone is reporting is that Trump's administration was involved in this ceasfire deal in some capacity.
You could maybe argue that perhaps Biden leveraged the threat of Trump continuing to support Israel which would prevent any ceasfire deal after he takes over. But then it doesn't seem to match the Israeli response, especially those who did not want a ceasfire. Why would Biden be able to suddenly strongarm Israel on his last few days in office?
The other option is that Trump for whatever reason did not value continuing to supply Israel with arms similar to how he's about to drop Ukraine. Netanyahu sees value in negotiating it under Biden to get the most he can out of it before Trump takes over. But then his former lobbying for Trump doesn't make sense.
Could also have just been pressure on Hamas that they perceived which caused them to cave in, since the agreement isn't exactly permanent, nor does it address the wider issues of who will eventually control Gaza.
Why could we not run kernel level anticheat in a sandbox? Does kernel level inherently mean a sandbox cannot contain it?
The linux kernel actually does have several sandboxing paradigms and techniques, but by the definition of anti cheat means that it cannot be sandboxed.
The anticheat essentially scans the entire system memory, filesystem, and loaded kernel modules to ensure the userspace software is not being tampered with. It would be impossible to do that in a sandbox, hence it breaks all the security standards linux has for kernel modules (ex: why would a wireless driver need to access a printer module?).
Even for windows, kernel level solutions are not very well suited to be running there. The recent crowdstrike outage is a notable example, because it did essentially the same thing but then a bad update bluescreened every machine because giving a kernel module complete access is almost like modifying the kernel itself.
As an aside is kernel level anticheat required for anti-cheat to function? Or are the developers of anti-cheat software just doing kernel level because its easier?
It's not required to function, but kernel level anticheat is just harder to bypass (still doable). They're choosing kernel level because it's cheaper to slap on a 3rd party AC than to make effective server-side software and pay for server moderation. Even Valve is hesitant with their VAC 3 system, even though it has been a major upgrade, it still requires manual moderating.
The thing is, most devs have finally realized kernel level anticheat still isn't an effective solution, so they have been fine with the userspace anticheat on linux and opting for server side stuff. It's just these last few holdouts that refuse to budge because they don't value the linux market (yet).
Don't worry I'm sure the billions of dollars we just gave GM to make an EV will actually result in GM making an EV and totally not pocketing free tax payer money for the nth time.
Last time I checked on ansible, it was a sysadmin complaining that he could just do everything better with vanilla bash scripts and that redhat keeps riding it because every company keeps asking for ansible experience, even if it's now a dated product.
And just personally, declarative anything seems to defeat it's own purpose any time you want to do something non standard, which comes up more often than you'd think.
Reject modernity, everyone go back to forum boards usenet lol
good experience on Windows
Windows 7 was the last time I had that experience lol
It's the OEM effect behind it. If Valve offers it as an OS anyone can use (which they are trialing by giving it to ASUS), then it is more likely for both users and OEMs to trust it as a platform, meaning devs would be incentivized to support it and users would be more likely to switch off windows.
I could be wrong, but I think what they really want is for a PC OEM to pick up SteamOS so that it markets to the general audience. They're beta testing it in the handheld market because of the steam deck's success.
If people get to use it truly out of box, the market for it will grow.
As of now, most Linux users are here because they have a knack for tech and trying things. Most computer users are not like this and will cling to even subpar experience because its familiar.
Windows can keep kneecapping itself all day, but linux desktop will only expand rapidly if both companies and users see immediate value (it's always been there, but hard to convince).
Back when I was still on an HDD the difference between NTFS and ext4 was night and day.
I remember having the need to defragment my drive on windows every few months, or Batman Arkham Asylum would actually start to lag and stutter trying to load textures.
Meanwhile World of Warships, another texture heavy game, would load significantly faster when I tried it on Linux because surprise surpsise, ext4 doesn't fragment until your disk is nearly full.
Windows honestly gg ez'd it's way out of making a newer FS with the advent of SSDs, but there was a period of time where upgrading to Windows 8 would blow up your drive usage to 100% the entire time the PC was on.
Technically, all the major anti cheats have Linux userspace binaries that even support wine/proton passthrough, so there are actually a lot of anti cheat games that run on linux as shown in the list.
The issue is not entirely something SteamOS can solve or is even linux's fault because no sane distro would ever support running a kernel level anticheat module. It would break the defining security features of linux, and I'm not even sure DKMS or Akmod would support it out of box on secure boot.
The games in question refuse to enable anticheat on linux because they know the userspace binaries are limited, but then their windows solution is just a crappy rootkit. It's not a very good or longterm solution either. EAC and Battleye both have demonstrable bypasses with various methods of fooling. Only Vangaurd seems to aggressively keep up with the arms race by literally scanning your PCIe devices for hardware cheats.
What they can do is to convince game OEMs to enable their linux AC support by marketing the potential customers they are losing out on. That's basically what happened with Halo MCC and Infinite. I'm still surprised they actually convinced Microsoft to allow both games to run on Linux with EAC.
I mean... have you to tried to post primary info stuff on Facebook or Reddit?
I got banned from r/worldnews back in the day for posting a Reuters article about Israel. Then a few years later, they removed the mod of r/dankvideos and deleted 2 years worth of sub history, without telling anybody or announcing anything.
The last thing I saw someone complain about a ban on TikTok was because he made a funny video showing his ability to vomit on command.
No one from TikTok is going to flock to YouTube shorts or Insta reels because it's an immediate downgrade. They just want a painless experience no matter who provides it.
Escalation with China, which is not what the US currently wants, hence why they keep military support in check but nothing more. However it is the USA, so they likely have a ton of direct influence in Taiwan's government, so it could be just as well considered a vassal or "shill" state, or at the very least decently under control.
Currently though, they are cutting off China from Taiwan's chip supply which is forcing China to kick start their lithography fabs at home, and is also the reason why a ton if the RISC-V software is coming out of Chinese universities (open ISA unlike ARM and Intel x86).
The USA likes to keep a resemblance of global leader, so they'll never actually annex any country even with popular support, just control it with the easiest method available, which is usually just espionage and a crap ton of bribes.
It would only happen in a military conflict, which is also unlikely despite China trying to hype up their military all the time. They don't currently have the resources to take on Taiwan even alone (in a prolonged fight) just due to the sheer logistics of transporting a ton of troops onto the rather heavily defended Island.
They want the fabs, but they can also just as easily play the long game and eventually make them at home in probably less thana decade.
Also not to mention Taiwan probably has actual social care and proper facilities for its citizens, so I don't think anyone would want to join exploit heavy USA.
Lol I used a pencil a few times
Fair enough, edited lol
Well since we're here:
You can't easily remap keys
You can scroll right but not left with the track pad
The delete key doesn't do anything in the finder
There was no window snapping until literally a few months ago
The terminal uses cmd+c instead of cmd+shift+c (really should be ctrl but okay)
The dock sucks when using multiple windows per app
Every app relies on an antiquated menu bar at the top which is straight out of 90s UI
The Fn key is where the ctrl key should be and the alt key is where the command key should be (hardware, can't rebind without addon tho)
You can't control audio levels on external displays (because Apple)
Software does not support multiple displays per port and instead can only have one display per port, meaning in order to have two displays you need one cable for hdmi and one cable for USB-C, can't have two of each.
The mouse acceleration curve is a troll for anyone not using the trackpad, and cannot be adjusted aside from being turned off.
There's a ton more but these were just off the top of my head.
EDIT:
Because multiple people mentioned this, I have a big issue with the command/meta key shortcuts because of Apple's braindead placement of their keys on the keyboard, so its a combined hardware software issue.
I otherwise wouldn't mind having to use command except my pinky has to wrap around to hit alt or I have to shift my entire hand to hit command because using a standard keyboard layout like literally every single other keyboard in existence is too much to implement.
Only if it's jailbreakable
Just to spite Nintendo for shutting down Yuzu and Ryujinx
Yuzu 2 when
