It becomes my problem when people have to stand in line too long, and I have to help someone who would have been relaxed but is now in a lousy mood. As you can probably guess, dealing with an agitated customer is more difficult (and more draining) than dealing with a neutral one.
I’m not just pulling this out of my ass. I’ve been on when the Internet failed, we couldn’t take credit cards, and “CashAwarenessMonth” actually happened. Trust me, we were all very aware of what a clusterfuck it was.
The amount of cash put in the till is determined by corporate, and monitored as if lives depended on it. My manager (who is actually a decent guy) does not have the authority to change that number, and will likely get fired if he does.
Plus, carefully counting out change instead of just watching someone swipe a card isn’t much of a “break”.
This is a terrible idea. If you can’t make the point without shitting on the little guy, maybe the point shouldn’t be made. This “ideology at any cost” bullshit is what conservatives do. Progressives actually give a damn about people, remember?
American here. The progressives among us despise the fact that bigotry is becoming more and more acceptable. We’re supposed to be outgrowing that shit, not encouraging it!
Many cashiers would hate this idea. It would slow things down considerably. We’d run out of change all the time. Already I run into problems with people paying for an $8 purchase with a fucking hundred.
What’s you definition of “best” in this context? For serious, real-world ass kicking, I’d look into Krav Maga… but most of us aren’t mercenaries. If you’re looking for something more well rounded, FunkyMonk and qyron seem to have better suggestions.
Just don’t engage with anyone who unfairly accuses you of “antisemitism”. Antisemitism is indeed a serious problem, but it doesn’t apply here. There is a huge difference between criticizing a government and criticizing a religion, but some people can’t/won’t accept that.
People who casually throw the word “antisemitism” around are usually too emotionally invested to have a real conversation, and/or they’re just trying to put you on the defensive. Never be afraid to abandon a conversation. You are not required to respond to anything someone says.
I see your point, but no. The shower is great for thinking, but it’s a terrible recording environment.
Even if people weren’t afraid of getting their phone wet, the sound would be a disaster. We tune it out in our own heads, but on video, the noise of water running would be overwhelming and inescapable.
Even when they’re far too young to verbalize the idea, toddlers inherently know that the only time they can attempt certain things is when no Big People are looking.
The NATO alliance was created so countries could protect one another from Russia’s military. When the USSR still existed, they responded by creating the Warsaw Pact, which consisted of countries on or near their border with Europe. In the time since the USSR collapsed, several former Warsaw Pact countries have joined NATO.
Russia absolutely despises NATO, and always has. Putin has used the expansion of NATO as one of his excuses for invading Ukraine (he claims to see NATO as a threat, but since the NATO treaty is purely defensive, I don’t understand his reasoning there).
I actually got called a “honkey” once. Any other time, I would have laughed my ass off, but this was in the middle of an argument with a coworker. In the moment, it bugged me… but I laughed later. In fact, I’m smiling about it now.
I read these two sentences as being at odds with each other.
Respectfully, I don’t.
Remember the days leading up to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, when anyone with half a brain could see what was coming? THAT was the time to say “never again”, and prove that the horrors of war hadn’t been forgotten: by taking a hard stance and not even allowing it to start.
Instead, politicians dragged their feet, bickered, and accepted Putin’s lies even though they knew better. Now, even the rosiest, most optimistic scenario will have to include unnecessary death and destruction. I don’t think we should take his threats of nuclear war seriously, either, unless we want to establish a precedent of letting any nuclear power commit any atrocity they want.
Emigrating isn’t free. People are reluctant to leave their families, friends, and jobs behind. Foreign governments aren’t exactly rolling out the red carpet for Palestinian immigrants, especially low income families with zero connections in the destination country.
On top of all that, human beings are really good at denial and thinking “it won’t happen to me.”
