  • This is the roadmap for swing states. Especially rust-belt or blue-collar states. Abortion, personal freedom and autonomy. These elections are better than polls. This is how you win, dems. Branch off of it, but for goodness' sake hammer it home.

    Edit: spelling

  • Will you use it for work? Can you write it off as a business expense? Those are the things I considered the last time I went a bit over budget on a new computer. I bought a professional grade laptop with a graphics card that could handle pretty robust design work and it was still less than half of what you are looking to spend so maybe you could get by with something less? But it sounds like you know what you want if it's worth it to you.

  • I'm beginning to think the majority of republicans in power are so selfish and spiteful that they resent the youth and future of younger generations and actually want to leave things worse. It's the end-stage nihilism of their unchecked greed.

    • Tipping isn't bad. Being underpaid is bad. If we as consumers want to add a little more for good service, I don't see a problem.
    • Make dollar coins a thing again.
    • Remove presidents too.
    • Guns are for weak people. 100% of gun owners I know are massive cowards. Tell your friends. If we can't get legislation, maybe we can change the culture. SUVs are fine, it's the massive pickup trucks that are getting out of hand. Give us the Hilux already, and make it electric. Healthcare should be universal and single-payer. End the health insurance industry.

    We are trying...

Edit: Please tell me why you disagree, don't just downvote me. Downvote is not a "disagree" button. I'm just trying to share my thoughts the best I can.

  • Singing coach would be the best answer. But outside of that I'd say the first step would be to train your ear. Pitch is more important than the quality of your voice. Plenty of singers get by with unconventional voices because they can sing in tune. And even someone with the most beautiful sounding voice will sound terrible if their pitch is bad. Developing a better sense of pitch is possible, even on your own over time. Look up ear training voice exercises.

  • I was curious to see if this might play out had Biden invoked the 14th amendment to solve the recent debt-limit standoff. Had he done so, chances are it would have eventually gone to the Supreme Court to 'rule' whether they liked that or not. But had they ruled against it and the Biden Treasury Department just... kept paying our debt, what would the Supreme Court be able to do? Throw a fit?

  • It came down to right-to-repair/upgrade. I've been a mac user my whole life. The 2012 MacBook pro was the last model that users could upgrade themselves. I got a decade plus out of those machines because I could upgrade them. They actually still run quite well, but Mac no longer includes those models in their software updates and no longer allows users to easily upgrade any of their laptops manufactured since. That was it for me. Got a System76 laptop and made the move. Couldn't be happier.

  • Same. Grocery, public transit, doctors office, cabs. I'll also add public restrooms, although if Coronavirus disappeared tomorrow, I'd still probably mask up in public bathrooms. I don't need to go back to inhaling that experience directly.

  • Pop!_OS is excellent. I came from Mac and Ubuntu and I have had an excellent experience. It can be as out-of-the-box or as customizable as you want. The support is superb. Everything works. Zero downside.

  • I only want to weigh in with the opposite experience, not trying to convince anyone or make a point. But I've had an account for over a year, a few subscriptions, just wholesome or comedic stuff, and get the most garbage or vile sewage on my feed. I am reluctant to open a link to TikTok, because I know it will show me something horrible first. Anyone else have this experience?

  • Some of us witnessed just how amazingly elastic our ecosystems can be just by the improvement in indicators like air quality due to reductions in human activity during covid. Human impact, while catastrophic, can revert amazingly quickly with radical behavioral change. Just something I try to keep in mind. I agree, that is the best path.

  • Seems like they are spread out across a few instances. @fanaticus.social seems to have the most. I've been trying to get some action going in the game day thread on Mariners@fanaticus.social.

I saw a list of the Lemmy equivalents of a bunch of the major sports subreddits somewhere. I'll try to find it.
